2022 Mock Drafts

Quite a few sites now have us dropping to Pick 22 , but still the same positions are touted mainly WR or CB and a few with NT Jordan Davis

I don’t think we will get anywhere near Davis. Even at 22. I’d love him here next to Barmore for the next 5+ years, but it won’t happen.

Yes, that would be a great combo of players !!.....I did read somewhere that Davis is thought by some as only a run defender but the videos I watched seemed to show him in a good light in both pass or run defence. Could he stay on the field for 3 or 4 downs ?

If we lose in first round 19-24. Can’t wait to see Gardner vs Bama’s receivers. Him opposite JC for the next 5 years would be great. Slide Green Goblin to nickel.

I think he can be a 3 down player in the league, but he will start out as a run stuffer.

I want Charles Cross, LT, MSU. Trent Brownish w/ LT traits.

My sleeper OL is Kyle Nunez, Stony Brook, RG. I suppose he’d be a late round pick.

i guess he would command a double team which would free up Barmore who is often double teamed this year. That would be a great duo but i doubt Davis last that long.

I will now have to go and look at the mock drafts and see who are projected ahead of us at the moment and see who they draft.......lol

Davis will no be taken with a first before say mid to high 20s pick so actually where Pats draft, BGC mentioned that you would not draft a "only run stoper" in the first round, but I am not sure, if lets say Gardner is gone by the time the Pats draft I'd go with Davis in the late 20s if I am the petriots, WR can be picked later as well quite a deep group

only a top OL, LB or CB (press man) would be higher on my list on the first round than Davis as NT considering the Patriots team (needs) for next year

Yea I agree we can go receiver in the second. I’ve been watching receiver tape recently and was thinking George Pickens may be available in the second ( maybe with a slight trade up) especially working his way back from injury. I think he’s someone who can be a big play threat but more importantly looks like he can be a physical receiver who can get some separation.

Now for the first pick I’m hoping some type of corner will be available. Stingley will be long gone by our pick and I have a feeling Gardner will be just behind him. So I think that leaves us with Kair Elam and the other corner from auburn.

Guys , since I have plenty of time and for a bit of fun I looked at 15 mock drafts dated this week.....

Most have the Pats picking at 22 but there are a couple showing 26 and 29 which are maybe not fully updated
Pats Positions Picked : 4 x CB , 1 x DL , 1 x LB , 2 x S and 7 x WR
Most picked player for Patriots : Kaiir Elam (CB) x 2 , Chris Olave (WR) x 2 , Jameson Williams (WR) x 2

Jordan Davis........

1 mock does not have him going in the 1st round
Highest pick 12 (Browns) , lowest pick not in round 1
7 x picks at 12 - 18 , 7 x picks at 22 - 32 , 1 x pick not in round 1
Team most picking Davis - Browns x 3 , Chargers x 3
None of the mocks checked have Davis currently going to the Patriots but historically there was 1 or 2

I am sure this will change multiple times

Jordan Davis has a drool-enducing combination of size and athleticism. The only reason he is not projected in the top 5 is his conditioning. He has not been rotated by the Georgia staff situationally(run-stuffer only) but after every 2 plays because he fatigues quickly. The gamble with him is whether a team's nutrition and conditioning staff can improve his stamina enough to stay in the game.

I'd take that bet

As of the best down by Buffalo, we are currently picking 22nd overall. Based on current needs:

1st round wr Wilson Ohio state - depending on how he runs, he had the skills jones desperately needs at the position, He can play the x and push agular to the z.

2nd round de hall Houston - hall is incredibly versatile, a perfect bb defender. we need to face facts, uche, winovich and wise can not find an opposing qb, even with military grade gps! Wise plays because, outside of judon, we have no defender that can set a hard edge in the running game. Hall can rush the passer from the outside or the interior, but is also a solid run defender.

3rd round - cb Taylor of tenn. He plays well in zone and can play press man. He is also a decent tackler.

4th round - ot Mitchell of Louisiana. He red shirts and gains weight and strength while Wynn plays out his 5th year.

6th round - rb pierce of Florida. White is on the decline and we have nothing in development.

6th round cb Durant of sc state. This guy has been incredible coverage skills, but needs a little time and coaching to get stronger and play smarter.

I like the R1 pick , must admit I will have to go and research the others...duh....thanks for the info/picks

0% chance Pats pick WR is 1st round

Pats are a "run first 2 TE/FB, short passes" offense with two WR pieces financially entrenched with the team and RFA Meyers as their most reliable pass catcher.
I suspect BB may seek out a bonafide veteran slot WR either through FA or via trade.

More plausible early round targets in no particular order:
OT......Brown will be a FA, Wynn is shaky and has 1 year left on contract
DT......BB can't continue to let RBs gash through his DL
CB.....Even if JC Jackson & the DB starters all return, BB can't continue to play zone vs legit passing offenses
LB.....Aging/slow/retiring (?) LBs need replacin/refreshing

Necessity (OT,DT,CB,LB) vs luxury (#1 WR)

HOPEFUL for a Trent Brown return, whether it's on another 1 year deal or something longer (2-3 years)...Wynn we're stuck with for another year...He's not bad at all, just very inconsistent...weirdly having his worst season now...Could very well go OT first round

I don't see DT as such a big need: Godchaux has been very solid and Barmore is a future star, if a propsect like Davis is there however, I'm 1000% on board

CB is interesting, I'm very hopeful for a Jackson extension...Hopefully Belichick is willing to pay him...We've been fortunate enough to go from Talib to Revis to Butler to Gilmore to Jackson...Mills is a very solid CB2, but obviously need a CB1 if Jackson goes elsewhere

LB is also interesting...I think 54 is only back for cheap...I'd like to bring back Bentley, but we'll see...could definitely use help depending on FA

Don't love any top FS prospects, but D Mac retiring could really derail some plans as well

I'd love to get Jones some high end help at WR, but he'll be just fine with Meyers/KB/Henry/Smith...NE could really go OT, DL, LB, CB, or FS

One of the common denominators during Patriots' losses this season was the defense's inability to make stops in the 4th qtr that would allow the offense another shot at producing points.
With that reality in mind.....

Of the 14 teams currently playoff bound as of week 17, the Patriots rush defense is ranked worst among the 14 teams, giving up 119 rushing yds/game (ranked 22nd overall in NFL)

Verses their 5 regular season opponents currently playoff bound (6 games). the Patriots gave up an average 160 yds/game rushing

Common perception is NE is an exceptional running team and a solid run defense team....
Patriots averaged 126 yds rushing vs conceding 119 yds on the ground/game....net +7 yds

Historically:
NE (In BB era) gave up more rushing yds/game this season than in any of their 9 SB appearance seasons
In 4 of their SB winning seasons, NE held opponents to sub 100 yd rushing games on average (89,98,98,88)
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Factor in NE's vulnerability/fear playing man coverage, it wouldn't surprise me to see NE pick defensive players exclusively on Days 1 and 2
