Bill Belichick appreciation thread

And he completely botched last year too! If they'd just sucked it up and lost to the Jets, they could have picked Mac Jones at 12 overall, but instead had to settle for drafting Mac Jones 15 overall!

That, and there's only so many times you can answer the same filler questions before you just start losing your mind:

"Coach, would you have preferred to score more points in this game, while your opponent, in turn, scored fewer points?"

"Coach, the Bills have a really good passing attack, could you break down how you plan to stop that so everyone in the world now knows your gameplan?"

"Coach, you gave up 270 yards on the ground today. Are you happy with that?"

"Coach, <insert X player on another team that isn't playing the Pats in the near future> did something. Please talk about that something?"

Or my favorite where do you keep your rings?? BB responded "In a Box".

Actually, it doesn't mean you are a bad fan.................

It reinforces what your posting has been telling us for several months.

You're "calling it the way you see it" shows you lack clarity and you're thinking is....well....unsound

You are one of the lackers of clarity that for whatever reason couldn't grasp that a re-tooling after 3 SB's and 5 AFCC's was going to happen. You are also one of the complete lackers of clarity who didn't see what the CAP strategy would yield in re-tooling the roster.

Did you miss 2009?

Non- lackers of clarity saw this was coming since 2017.

So the 43 year old QB does well with a stacked roster assembled by a Belichick acolyte. Only a lacker of clarity goes that route and doesn't move to the young franchise QB as part of the re-tooling.

How exactly bad was it early?

Lost to Miami by 1
Lost to NO with MAC showing rookie
Lost to your Buccaneers by 2.....with a donk.
Lost to Dallas in OT.

Face it, you are fuming right now because "2-4" is no longer and your dreams of continued misery are not reflected in the record or by Patriot fans here at patsfans.
I pity you.

Some envious/jealous construction workers may not like the guy, but Lazar has been consistently putting out A+ content all season long with good analysis and perspective.

.
I think he's been pretty good as well. Does a nice job with the all-22.

BB has always drafted well

Not true and let's go back and forth for a week on this, stooge.

BB has sucked at drafting from 2005-2008 and 2013-2018, exactly when morons from john carroll were involved.

BB has been awesome at drafting from 2001-2004, 2009-2012, and 2020-now.

Please explain to me why total sh_t draft picks from 2013-2019 were actually good. And don't give me that 10 of them became part-time special teamers or backup role players. GTFO with that. Might as well be a Jets fan if you're going to stoop that low.

So Bill's ability to draft comes and goes like the power levels on a video game? He sucks for a stretch, then is amazing, then sucks again for a bit... lol.

And you attribute this to when "morons from John carroll were involved," like you have inside knowledge to the most secretive franchise and war room in pro sports and know when Josh McDaniels had a little too much input? Good god, you're a sociopath. They just picked Mac Jones, Barmore, Stevenson in one draft class... wasn't Josh McDaniels there?

I'll make this easy for you since you're probably one of those "**** Rehbein drafted Tom Brady" guys.

In 2000 BB was hired and given full control of all football operations, meaning good or bad he was responsible for every aspect of the team you saw on the field. And in that time he drafted the greatest QB of all time, the greatest TE of all time, a DT who made the NFL's All Decade team for the 2000's... and oh yeah, along the way won the most playoff games, conference championships and Super Bowls in history... something he couldn't possibly do if he sucked at his job.

The funniest part of all of this are the UDFA stories...

One of the last places you might expect to find a coach with these credentials is on the college scouting trail, which was why Vanderbilt defensive tackle Adam Butler was so surprised to see Belichick about 10 months ago on campus. The two watched film together, with Butler saying that Belichick was the only NFL head coach to meet with him. Then when the draft concluded and Butler wasn't selected, Belichick reached out to him with an offer to join the Patriots as an undrafted free agent. Butler accepted on the spot and has been one of the surprise stories of the Patriots' 2017 season, which is a credit to himself and also a reflection on Belichick.

Or the story of Malcolm Butler... Butler graduated college and was working the fry station at Popeye's Chicken... no pro teams called him but one... the New England Patriots. If they didn't give him a tryout there's no miracle against Seattle and one less championship in New England. But Bill struggles to find rookie talent... laughable. I tap out, you obviously have inside knowledge about the Pats that none of the rest of the world has... you better keep your secrets.

So Bill's ability to draft comes and goes like the power levels on a video game?

No it's very simple. Don't over-complicate it. Bill is an older guy who has to oversee EVERYTHING which is physically impossible for 1 guy. So he relies heavily on what his staff tells him or their analysis. So Bill is at times awesome at drafts, at times mediocre depending on the staff he works with. Have you ever been a CEO or worked with one? They're at the mercy of how good (or crappy) their staff is. It's very simple - BB had awesome drafts when Pioli/Weiss and Reese/O'Brien and Wolf/Groh were in his ear, and he had disastrous drafts when the people he listened to were McD/Caserio/Ziegler from 2013-2019 and 2005-2008. It's extremely clear.

I have consistently given credit to BB for finding low picks and UDFA guys who turn out to be amazing. It's his ace in the hole. And it's absolutely all BB. It's what masks his temporary years of draft crappiness, and puts him over the top for best GM of the last 20 years. There are many players who would simply have no NFL careers without Bill Belichick. And this includes guys who became all pro's. I would even go so far to say Brady owes his career to Belichick. But don't go be a stooge and pretend BB didn't have total sh-t drafts from 2005-2008 and 2013-2019 listening to dumba-sses from john caroll university. It absolutely happened.

BB hires his staff, and yes I've been in management forever. If great things happen because of people I hire, whether it's **** Rehbein, Tom Brady or Josh McDaniels, then I get credit for all the great things they do.

BB made all the picks... all of them, good or bad. And you pretending to know when John Carroll guys were a little too involved is absurd. You don't know **** about the inner workings behind the scenes at Gillette because none of do. It's the most secretive locked down franchise in sports.

Moreover you saying certain draft classes like 2013 where we got players like Jamie Collins, Logan Ryan, Duron Harmon, Ryan Allen was "bad" suggests a special kind of fan entitlement. The worse franchises in the league wish they had it so bad. See that's your problem, you think "good" is "bad."

Yes the bucks stops with BB. But the fact you're weakly grasping at straws, claiming every draft has been good, is laughable.

Do you want to go through it? I'm totally game. Let's go through every single sh-tty draft that has john carroll idiot fingerprints all over them.

.

You can go in the BB sub-forum after he retires and I'll say the same about you.
Most real Patriot fans will focus on the team that remains after belichick leaves rather than memories. There won’t be a need for a sub forum

A draft is one means to a result. It’s about winning and losing. Subjective analysis of drafts without taking into account the overall success is like saying a World Series champion sucked because they had a bad storl
base % and we’re outscored in fifth innings

Many of the uneducated or myopic don't see it that way.

They view the actual team building process & draft in the same lens of fantasy football. If a player doesn't produce fantasy points they are useless.

Is this still the BB appreciation thread?
Some kind of reverse transitive property... laugh at DKF, appreciate BB, same thing.

I know some of you guys are still learning your role and where you fit in a Pats board.

Here's the ecosystem:

If the Pats keep winning... your line is basically "OMG I am such a dumas. Please forgive me for EVER doubting this team, its coaching staff, or any other aspect of this greatest franchise in the history of the National Football League. I beg you guys to allow me to sometimes drop in and apologize for how putridly, wretchedly wrong I have been all year. I am so sorry and Bill Belichick is my personal god."

If the Pats start losing again, you can squeeze in another "I am smarter than BB and Josh McDaniel" jag that nobody will pay attention to.

It's just stupid. This is the single winningest team you could possibly choose to talk into the ground.

AND you have to root for the Patriots to lose to have anything to say.

You're really not a Pats fan at that point, you're just a guy repeating a bunch of tropes in the process of being disproven... hoping against hope that the Pats are really worse than they look.

I don't expect any BB haters to Just. Shut. TF. Upppppppppp. But it's definitely the right move.

This chart is absolutely sick! Clearly shows dominance on both sides of the ball.
