Wilfork, Seymour named semifinalists for HOF

The Helmet Catch might be costing Rodney his deserved place. Before that, he was Money to end any big game comebacks.
If what you say is true it's the biggest bunch of ******** there is.

If people want to lay blame on that play at a player's feet, it's Asante.

Completely agree re: Asante. That damn Helmet Catch play still haunts me; I can still see Adalius Thomas being pulled backwards to keep him from sacking Eli -- but no flag. And it cost Moss and Seau their rings. My Rodney point is more that if he had broken up that catch like he almost always did, I think he couldn't be kept from the HoF because of the magnitude of what that win would have meant.

Yea maybe. I try not to think about it.

Rodney won't get in until he's either old or dead. A true tragedy.

Was Rodney "dirty"? Before he came here, yup. However the precedent of dirty players in the NFL HoF had been set. If that is the reason for his exclusion that is BS
Yea it's crazy to think about. Some of the things people hang on to decades later. I mean what are we talking about, a handful of plays over 15 years ... some plays were like 30 years ago lol !!

I don't want to get into it for obvious reasons but I'll always take 6 or 7 Rodney's on my team. Football is an insanely physical game played by some different people mentally and physically.

Give me Hightower, Spikes, Mankins, Wilfork, Rodney and a dozen more all day.

Did he play any differently than Ronnie Lott or John Lynch? They never called Lott dirty.

I think his PED admission and suspension is a bigger problem for him.

All 3 were "dirty"
Ok. Just as long as they put those guys in the same category I'm all right with it. It's when they call Rodney dirty but give Lott a pass that I question the call.

Stanley Morgan is the GOAT of Patriots receivers. Moss wasnt here long enough.
Jules is 2nd. The Steamer belongs in the HOF. He was a top 5 nfl wr for most of his career. And some years was the best in the nfl. It seemed every year he averaged 20+ yds per catch. You dont see that so much anymore even though wrs stats are inflated today compared to then
After reading this I decided to see exactly how many of the Pats, the greatest dynasty of all time, are in the HOF. Their snub is a disgrace. Here's the list, which I don't think includes the latest inductees.

0 - Car, Hou, Jac
1 - Cincy
3 - Ravens
4 - Atl, NO, Sea
5 - TB, NE (we're tied with the biggest losers in NYFL history)
7 - NJ (let that sink in for a moment)
8 - Den
9 - Tenn
From this point on the teams have at least 2 or 3 times as many players in the HOF as the Pats.
10 - LC, Mia, Phi
13 - KC
14 - Ariz
15 - Minny
16 - Indy, SF
17 - Det, Cle
19 - LV (you have to be shytting me), LR
And now teams with at least 4 times as many players in the HOF as the Pats
20 - Dal, Was
21 - NYG
26 - GB, Pitt
30 - Chicago
Granted, some of the teams have been around longer than the Pats (not Dallas though) but they haven't been around for 4-6 times as many years.

Anyone who doesn't see that the Pats are being snubbed isn't looking.

Anyone have any ideas why the Pats are not represented as much as they should be in the HOF? It doesn't seem to be limited to just Harrison and Morgan.

Hines Ward should NOT be getting HOF consideration.

Harrison most certainly should.. The fact that he's not when he was such a HUGE factor in 2 SB for the Patriots is disgusting.
Arguably the MVP of 39 too.

Wilfork was dominant. Especially in the years between the SBs... From 2005 - 2012 he was nothing short of amazing. Stats schmats. He was a force.
He was the prototypical big nose tackle. His job was to make gaps for other defenders and to move the pile backwards against the run, and he did it incredibly well.

Thanks for the research. Where do we land if we assume Seymour, Rodney, Wilfork, and one wild card like Willie get in from the first part of the dynasty?

Also we know Gronk, Brady, and Bill will get in too. Part of it is timing as our dynasty is the freshest one and will take time to get everyone in but that's also a BS excuse as it's been plenty of time for 37 and 93. It really baffles me why we get no love from the hall.

You know what REALLY pisses me off is that Stanley Morgan isn't among that list. Ward, Smith, and Johnson were all very good WR's, so was Morgan, and while he didn't rack up the same yardage as those 3 you have to consider that they played in different eras. DB's had much more leeway to be physical with WR's than they did in the late 90's and early 2000's, even before the Polian intervention over protected QB's and WR's.

Just to stats to make my point further. Morgan AVERAGED close to TWENTY ypc (19.4). To put it in perspective Ward, Smith and Johnson, all semifinalists averaged either 13 or 14 ypc. Another stat that impressed me, was that over 14 seasons in a far more physical league, the 181 lb Morgan played in 88% of his possible games (188 out of 224)

If Hines Ward deserves to be a HOF semifinalist, then so does Stanley Morgan
^^^Hypocrisy Exposed^^^ You nailed it right here.

Some of of has to do with lazy writers that aren't big fans of NE, Bill. It's easy to throw the Bill/Brady were the "Patriot way" in the air and again a lot of these guys are lazy. Not many want to stand out. They don't like being told who to put in. Part of it is that up until 20 years ago NEP were not a "cool" team or franchise. No one was running to buy our stuff or even talk about us. I swear it's like high school they'll hang onto small stuff from 20 years ago.

Rodney or Wilfork getting in would be great bc I think both would speak up for others. I really do. That would be helpful but Pats fans need to stay on top of this. They'll try to bury us and remember it Bill/Brady if we don't.

We need a big voice online, in the media too. Specifically banging this drum every year. It's silly we don't even have any core guys never mind fringe guys from the greatest dynasty / run in NFL history. It's not right.

Rodney, Wilfork & Sey should be in yesterday. Hopefully Adam wears our colors. He should imo. Slater absolutely deserves to get in. He's someone everyone should mention until he gets in. ST was such a big part of our success. He's the GOAT and a leader. Mankins and Welker should get mention too. Obviously Mankins is a Pat but we got a shot at Welker going in as a Pat imo.

Pats fans need to stay on top of this though.

I should be doing more than complaining about it. I have the time.

Don’t worry, we have Ron Borges representing us in New England, surely he will stand up for all Belichick’s players in the HOF voting, right?

Right?

A big problem with Rodney's candidacy is the position he played. There are very few safeties in the hall, and already three out of that group are contemporaries to Harrison. Of the top safeties in the hall, many would argue that LeRoy Butler is more deserving. The dirty player label may hurt as well. I was shocked to discover that Jack Tatum is not in the HOF, then read that his hit on Stingley is one of the main knocks against him.

I think DMac will be a sneaky hall candidate, especially if he sticks a few more years and is wins another Lombardi.

Wilfork doesn’t show up on the stat sheet enough to make it into the HoF despite deserving to.

Dumb thing is other then Reed he's better than his contemporaries already in. Way better than Palamalu.
