OT: Raiders WR Henry Ruggs fatal suspected DUI crash; (update: Desean Jackson to replace him on Raiders…lol)

Considering the cost of his car coupled with the fact that he was still on a rookie deal, he’s probably already close to broke.

Yeah, I mean if he’s driving a whip like that, I can only imagine the house that he bought. Not smart financial decisions but, then, the decision and speed of the accident proves he isn’t really a smart guy altogether. What a shame.

Was thinking the same thing. Impulse control problems usually show up everywhere in a person's life, as would whatever insecurity is causing him to need a fancy car, high speed, loaded guns, etc. So he's probably spent too freely to feed all that, plus shown off by buying stuff for friends and family.

It’s usually economic background and education. Those who come from nothing don’t know how to save because they’ve never had anything to save and, thus, were never taught how. Not sure about guns re: Ruggs, but I’d bet he has a lot of expensive jewelry, though.

Don't want to sound insensitive of the situation but I would claim him if he clears wavers right now. He is still a kid. 22 yrs old I believe. I think he will end up getting 18 to 24 months which will make him available at age 24. I believe Stallworth went though the a similar situation.

Call me crazy but if that woman was my wife, sister or daughter Ruggs would never play football again.

And, if he's found guilty, he'll be penalized by the appropriate jurisdiction. But the NFL is not the criminal justice system, and people need to stop acting as if it's alright that it acts as if it is.
He may get penalized by the appropriate jurisdiction but I have serious doubts that the penalty will be appropriate.

Any GM that claims him should instantly be fired by the owner. He's not a victim here.

There is a really sad twist to this story. First I want to say I do not in any way excuse what Ruggs did, it fact, he should go to jail! There is absolutely no excuse for drinking and driving and on top of that speeding and taking the life of another person.

But, when Ruggs was in high school his best friend was killed in an auto accident. Ruggs was supposed to be in the car, but he was sick. Ruggs honored his friend after every TD by raising 3 fingers, the number his friend wore in sports.

This whole story is really sad, most importantly for the young woman that lost her life and her family. I also feel bad for Ruggs and his family. He never got in any trouble at Alabama and always did things the Bama Way.

I'm more on the side of "let's not talk about signing this guy who just killed someone a few days ago", but I don't think his career is as over as people say. The Patriots themselves took Stallworth back on the other side of a similar thing.

The Bama Way? They just had a LB get into an accident because he was drunk back in August.

If Ruggs only gets a year or two and gets out at 24 or 25 you would be crazy to think he wouldn't get another shot in the league. This is the NFL and money rules over everything.

The girl was burnt alive and he was going airplane speeds on a Vegas strip. I don't know how any GM would sign him but maybe you are right.

When the details came out last night I just got more pissed off about all this. Ive seen the "We've all done stupid things at 22" comments on Twitter with some people seemingly feeling sorry he ruined his life. To me this isn't even a "normal" DUI manslaughter where you're drunk and run a red light and t-bone somebody. Ruggs was completely 100% reckless and out of control. 156 MPH on a street. His airbags went off at 127 MPH apparently. To me that is equivalent to firing a gun out your window at random. So poor Henry Ruggs he was only 22. The girl he burned alive was just a year older than him and probably didn't have the luxury of millions of dollars and sports cars but yeah, poor Henry.

That car is at least 100k. I can pretty much guarantee that. I went to a Chevy dealership last week and a stripped down model of that was still in the 80k range. And based on that color, it’s one of the premium editions. Plus taxes and fees, easily 6 figures

Granted Ruggs is probably thinking he’s making bank the rest of his deal and in 3 years will get a big contract bump due to his play.

But yeah, the dude isn’t mega wealthy or anything. He’s really lucky if he’s pocketed 5 million post taxes, and we can assume expenses. The legal fees alone with probably gut him

Are you serious? How many players have gone through the Bama program? 1000's of players and yes there are going to be some that lose their way, but the majority of them do not and live meaningful and productive lives in the NFL or in another field.

If you want to focus on the handful of those who lost their way and screwed up their lives, have at it. I bet you are the life of the party with your negative attitude!

He might just be too toxic. The problem is, every NFL fan knows this story. It’s not like Josh Gordon where you could rationalize it as a personal problem that is only hurting him. It’s not under the radar. And the details are horrific. Ruggs also isn’t a star QB like Michael Vick who could turn a franchise around potentially.

And really, Ruggs starting point is 2 years. He’s not getting less unless a prosecutor totally botches the case. If he plays every card right, 5 is probably the best he can he hope for imo

I just don't like these redneck SEC schools that like to tout this holier than thou crap. There are just as many guys getting in trouble at Alabama as any other school. You don't get the best athletes in the country and a bunch of choir boys at the same time.

Wow, so we are all rednecks? You sound like a bigot!

So according to you, Mac Jones is a redneck, Damien Harris is a redneck, Christian Barmore is redneck, and Donta Hightower is a redneck? In fact any player that plays for a SEC school is a redneck? Does that include all the players that might come to play from California, Michigan, New Jersey, or Washington. Do they automatically become a redneck the minute they commit to a SEC school, or is it when they step foot on campus?

Please enlighten one, tell me when the redneckness infects those players? LOL

You can say many things about the SEC but I don't think I have ever once seen them accused of acting "holier than thou". After all, Notre Dame is not an SEC school.

Very different situations.

You are right about that!

I remember we were in Miami for the National Championship against them in 2013. Their fans were just awful!

We were sitting on the beach with a group of friends and a couple of them walked up to us and said, You guys haven't seen a defense like ours, we are going to smash you in the mouth! We nodded our heads and told them to enjoy their day, I mean it's not like we haven't played against some pretty good defenses in the SEC, we weren't really scared of Manti Te'o. We went on to beat them 42-14.

After the game as we were leaving their only response was, You guys will be working for us one day! I looked at this 25 year old guy and told him I seriously doubt that, enjoy your trip back to Indiana.
