Wonder if this team is turning around. Beat Carolina next week and we are onto something
I think we have a good chance to win @CAR if we fix mistakes (ball security, no big blown plays on D, passing game sharpness)
Then, home vs. Browns and @ATL on Thurs night will be a tough stretch - but both winnable games.
Home vs. Titans will be tough, but if Henry is out, it's a lot more doable.
The next 4 are certainly within our grasp, and would make a huge mark in a final stretch for the playoffs.

That is exactly how you 'scheme' a win. Hats off to the Patriots and their coaching staff. Clearly the Chargers had more talent on their roster. But we took this game on the road and we came away with the victory.

Defense also played outstanding, including the notable pick 6. Mac Jones made the plays he needed to make, although he didn't have an explosive game, he didn't make any mistakes either. What can I say, but it's a solid win. BB really took Herbert to school and the defense made the Chargers QB look confused and harrassed all day long. Herbert was acting like the rush was coming, and our linebackers were actually dropping back to put intense coverage on his favorite target, Keenan Allen.

At 4-4, the rest of the season is completely open now. I did not see this coming just a couple of games ago, but this team is now poised to go on a run that could get us that ever important playoff berth.

Bourne. What's frustrating is we can't even focus our hate on one guy, because someone NEW keeps fumbling every week.
Little guys going for extra yards is always a risk.

It's not Jonnu's fault the oc has him playing fulllback. No clue how to use a 2nd TE. You can tell regardless of personnel the oc only feels comfortable using 11-personnel spread shotgun. Always goes away from 12 personnel after the first 10 scripted plays. It was a total waste signing a 2nd expensive TE knowing the oc.

.

I can only hope they are saving these wrinkles for the stretch or something. Other than one quarter against the jets they’ve barely done anything creative with Jonnu, what a waste thus far (not knocking Jonnu because he’s actually flashed big play potential many times and could be worth it if utilized correct )

Crazy thing is, the pass before that could’ve been intercepted too. So two horrible passes in a row. Also, they had plenty of time. All they needed was a FG to win. Brady was trying to win it with 1 play. Just work your way downfield and get the winning FG.

He was having a brilliant day before that horrible throw. Had 375 yards and 4TD passes and 70%+ completion percentage. He literally threw that game away.
That's Arians "no risk it, no biscuit" philosophy at work again. Happened against the Rams last year, IIRC.

Agree. Jonnu can be a blitz killer. Have him block and release, with all these over aggressive LBs and linemen sprinting towards Mac then throw a screen pass right behind them to Jonnu. He could easily get 50 yards a game off short catches with big YAC potential. He's not a fullback like how they use him now....

Don't understand why these blitzes work when we can all see it coming? Does Mac not see it? Do his skill players not adjust their routes? Is this something that has been improving?

Yep, it’s going to be a week at a time/ a game at a time, with every game almost like a playoff game, that intensity should harden them. It’s going to be a great season to follow. If they can get into the playoffs, and then have a strong off-season they will become a serious contender in coming years. It’s going to be great to watch.

My general thoughts feel critical, although I'm really pleased with the game.

It's still very disappointing to see simple tackles and bad positioning lead to a 75 yard touchdown run that should have been less than 10.

It's still very disappointing to see a promising drive stopped by a fumble.

Yet the team overall showed a lot of determination and never gave up.

The OL provided decent amount of time to Jones and good run blocking.

The DL provided some key pressures, and the DBs provided good coverage, plus of course AP's two INTs.

The LBs still seem to be a weakness.

PFF says:

Dont’a Hightower was largely ineffective in this matchup. His low defensive grade (39.6) is likely a result of his performance against the run, where he missed one tackle and received more negatively graded plays against the run than positively graded plays. He also conceded two receptions for 26 yards in coverage.

STs provided the FGs and some great field position via Olszewski.

Coaching overall seemed to keep Herbert fairly confused.

As usual, there were some really mysterious play calls from Josh, but it seems he's willing to take more chances than he was earlier in the season.

Let Mac cook!

You Brady haters make me laugh. After crying to the mods to have Brady posts moved to a sub-forum you now feel the urge to take pot shots at him, here in a Pats post game thread and in that sub-forum. When Brady's team wins there isn't a peep from any of you.

How about we all enjoy a great Pats win instead of stirring up anti-Bill or anti-Tom crap every week in every thread? It makes me think you guys are defensive about Bob & Bill's Biggest Blunder.
Aww, despite a few cheap shots early on, you had the moral high ground till you couldn't help yourself but get your jab in at the end.

Clearly, you are no better than the people you are complaining about.

It's been a combination of everything I think. First and foremost, a revolving lineup on the OL has led to some communication and fundamentals issues. A veteran QB is probably savvy enough to work around that, or get them lined up better, but Mac is learning that part of the pro game too (getting better, but still learning, he's a rookie), AND he's had to do it with different guys up front each week. These past two he's seen the same starting five, and it feels like he's gotten hit way less. It's improving in both areas, from what my eyes can see anyway. I'm sure some of the X's and O's folks here can confirm or deny this better.

Exactly. We should have won 2 of those games. The Panthers are not near at the level of Bucs and Cowboys. I think we'll have a good plan against Darnold. He has looked better at times, but not as good as Herbert.
Darnold was seeing ghosts against BB, even before the concussion...

I'm a bit worried if CMac gets rolling, he could be a chain mover if we can't contain him. Our old LB's are not going to be able to keep up with the outside run and screen game he excels at. On the other hand, there's no way our passing game should be as off as it was yesterday.
LB play definitely has been an issue this season, IMO.

It's sometimes about the blocking, but sometimes not- depending on the formation.

Mac sees these blitzes coming, most of the time, but that's one thing, the other thing is being on the same page as the receiver, i.e., the QB and the receiver(s) see the same thing. Example: yesterday, Mac threw the ball at Henry's hip because Henry didn't realize he was the hot read as there was a slot blitz on the weak side.

We have been very spoiled by the relationship Brady had with Edelman and with Gronk- practically joined at the hips and seeing the exact same thing. They both knew exactly where to go, the product of years and years of playing together.

The hope is that this will come in time, but this is a very young team.

I think the New Orleans game was the worst game for Mac this year.
The offensive line was the worst we've seen it in 20 years against the Saints.
