Game Day Thread Official Post Game Thread- Pats beat the Chargers

THIS IS OUR LIVE GAME DAY THREAD:

This is where we gather to follow things on Game Day. Obviously, emotions tend to be high so if anyone gets a little crazy, the use of the “Mute” button is encouraged on anyone who may be annoying to you to control your experience and to allow the moderators to also enjoy the game.

At the same time, please take a deep breath before over-reacting for the sake of making this a pleasant experience for everyone.

The last thing we should ever want refs trying to do is legislate "intent". I agree however, why does it matter - holding is holding - even if it was a run why can the defender hold the blocker just the same as the reverse being a penalty because it prevents a possible play by the defender?

That just clicked for me after mac’s post. What a sh** non call

Funny thought that points out even more how the NFL is a week to week, matchup to matchup league:

Ravens blew out the Chargers
Bengals blew out the Ravens
Jets beat the Bengals
Patriots blew out the Jets
Patriots win a close one against the Chargers

EDIT: For some reason I wrote Jets blew out the Bengals, but obviously that didn't happen. They just beat them. Morning brain.

So overall we only have 1 AFC loss withthe other 3 being NFC losses against the best the NFC has to offer. I can finally say we can potentially go far this year
Exactly. We should have won 2 of those games. The Panthers are not near at the level of Bucs and Cowboys. I think we'll have a good plan against Darnold. He has looked better at times, but not as good as Herbert. I'm a bit worried if CMac gets rolling, he could be a chain mover if we can't contain him. Our old LB's are not going to be able to keep up with the outside run and screen game he excels at. On the other hand, there's no way our passing game should be as off as it was yesterday.

From what I could tell, it looks like we stayed light front for most of the game, except on high percentage run plays. The Pats seemed to be ok with conceding some run yards to contain the passing threat and get their best rush guys on the field.

Yeah. We saw a guy run right by hightower and collins get juked by Hebert.. So we shouldn't go thinking Carolina is an easy out. Our defense against the run has been pretty awful..

Our close win against the Chargers was more of a blowout than the Jets winning 34-31 on a late TD.

Yeah, my morning brain went on autopilot. Never should have said they blew out the Bengals, just beat them. My bad.

That's fair, like somehow immediately after yesterday's game I forgot about all the stupid ref calls.

I’m guessing he is a slow learner?
No, although he didn’t arrive on day one as a near coach-on-field with great football instincts and knowledge like Mac or Hightower as a rookie. His so-called “Red Flags” consisted of some immature tweets as a freshman and being undisciplined as a team run defender early on (Saban indirectly alluded to this when praising him for his improvement in this area part way through his second year). By all accounts Saban sat him down before his Junior, final year at Alabama and said “you have great ability, if you want to be a successful NFL player you need to do X, Y, and Z”, and to his credit he took it to heart and he became arguably the best defensive lineman in college football the second half of his junior year and inarguably completely dominated the SEC Championship and two National Championship games to a level rarely seen, those poor offensive linemen at Florida, Notre Dame, and Ohio State (all top offenses) must still have nightmares about him.

Really clutch win for the Pats, this keeps any playoff hopes they have alive, although that will probably be the case every week for the rest of the season. I actually love the fact that they are in a position where every week is going to be critical to their hopes of a playoff berth, it will help develop the players for the long term. I think this team has character and a winning mentality, and I expect their effort to be really consistent from here on out. Belichick is building another championship contender for the future.

“Today”?!
That’s the biggest understatement this board has ever seen. That thing should be permanently named “ Game day garbage ”
C'mon - I'm having a blast in this place because I get to channel my inner trash loving can't use this animal because probably highly unPC oh well maybe in 75 years when people are over it wait what's another trash loving animal maybe a rat or a squirrel or an opposum self.

Game ball to Philips, without question. Happy to be wrong about a pickup, and he secured that win yesterday.

Defense played well outside a drive here and there, but you aren't perfect every series.

Excellent, I can see us finishing the season 11-6. Everybody else left on the schedule is fairly beatable, a playoff appearance is in the card.

Right but the rule doesn't say that if holding occurs and the QB is in the end zone then safety. Just that if a foul occurs in the end zone.

Van Noy WAS held in the end zone so if that's what Bill was challenging then that's a good challenge. I think whoever it was upstairs (Patricia?) might have got it mixed up

I agree and this seems obvious so why don't BB and JM do it? I have no idea.
Neither do I.. he’s 6ft 4 225, and that’s his role to be a target in the red zone but they didn’t even entertain the idea of having him in there. Makes no sense to me what so ever.

Henry is definitely the better tight end. He has been solid and he is going to keep getting better and better with Jones.
Jonnu on the other hand I’m not impressed with him.

It's not Jonnu's fault the oc has him playing fulllback. No clue how to use a 2nd TE. You can tell regardless of personnel the oc only feels comfortable using 11-personnel spread shotgun. Always goes away from 12 personnel after the first 10 scripted plays. It was a total waste signing a 2nd expensive TE knowing the oc.

.

Just remembered something. Now I’ve been on this train for years but can everyone else now agree that a player talking smack isn’t gonna be some “oh god don’t give the opponent bulletin board material!” after JC Jackson said the stuff he said last week?
