Finally, a win against a real team. This is the best I've felt about football all year. Not sure where this season goes, but the ceiling isn't too bad if we can win games like this.

What were the plays people thought were badly officiated? I didn't notice much but I certainly have the capacity to miss things.

Well, when you figure out what is & isn't DPI, let them know, because these refs certainly didn't know the rules.

Game snaps:

Feels like BB has been trying to build a Big Nickel base defense for the last 10 years, and this might be the best version of it he's fielded. Three safeties playing 80+% of the snaps and playing well gives them a lot of scheme flexibility. It will be interesting to see if this keeps up against Carolina and Cleveland, whose offenses heavily rely on their running game.

Yes, Joker. Jones did not have his best game. 18/35? He get's kudos for not throwing an int, but more than a few of his throws were off.

I feel like he had a problem gripping the ball today. He Keep sailing passes. If they aren’t reporting a slight injury, my guess would be with his throwing hand. I recall on one of the passes he sailed, during the replay you could see a pain like squint in his facial expression. Hopefully I’m wrong and he just had a bad day.

Im loving watching this kid play. I’m feeing extra alive this Monday morning.

The challenge was valid. It's where the QB is located when the hold occurs. Not where there hold occurs. If you're going to comment, make sure you understand the rule you're commenting on. While Ian Eagle is a crappy announcer, he at least stated what the rule was before they went to commercial and didn't show a replay.

speaking of commercials, I don’t think we got to see more then one punt or return on the broadcast I was watching. It’s really disappointing as a fan who really enjoys the general excellence of our special teams play year after year. I understand the money aspect, but the NFl has quickly got out of hand with it. It’s almost as bad as them only showing replays of the calls that fit their narrative

Big nickel has been a key part of this defense as long as I can remember.

For sure, I just mean McCourty, Dugger, and Phillips are all playing over 80% of the snaps on average this year. Even in the best years of McCourty, Chung, and Harmon, Harmon would be somewhere around 60%. So it's a package they used, but it wasn't as prevalent as it's been so far in 2021. Some of that is definitely impacted by the CB depth too. They're putting their best 5 (or 6) DB's on the field, and this year that includes three safeties. But it's not like those three aren't earning it as well.

Wow.

Tom doing his occasional Drew impersonation.

Honestly, I'm hoping he saves this stuff in case we play them again later in the SB
You Brady haters make me laugh. After crying to the mods to have Brady posts moved to a sub-forum you now feel the urge to take pot shots at him, here in a Pats post game thread and in that sub-forum. When Brady's team wins there isn't a peep from any of you.

How about we all enjoy a great Pats win instead of stirring up anti-Bill or anti-Tom crap every week in every thread? It makes me think you guys are defensive about Bob & Bill's Biggest Blunder.

I agree completely.

I remember back in 02 when Bill had Lawyer and Victor Green out there at the same time. Rodney and Don Davis in 04, etc.

Is that the rule though? I can't find anything like that the rulebook. Just says that a safety happens when a foul occurs in the end zone, not when QB is in the end zone.

I think Van Noy was held in the end zone and maybe that's what Bill was told to challenge but the flag was for Onwenu and that happened at the 3 yard line.

The idea behind the rule is that the QB would have been sacked in the end zone for a safety had the holding not occurred. Because the QB was outside the end zone when it happened, it wasn't a safety.

The one thing about Mac today...he wasn't at his best, but he also didn't make that huge interception like Herbert made that cost them the game....
I'm not sure that the interception was on Herbert. The receiver looked like he was wandering around lost and had no clue a pass was coming.

Belichick confirmed that he threw the challenge flag because the the RT was holding in the end zone, but that was irrelevant because the flag was on the left guard not in the end zone. "I blew it."

Right but the rule doesn't say that if holding occurs and the QB is in the end zone then safety. Just that if a foul occurs in the end zone.

Van Noy WAS held in the end zone so if that's what Bill was challenging then that's a good challenge. I think whoever it was upstairs (Patricia?) might have got it mixed up

Just as I thought.

He was right to take responsibility but I think that was on Patricia upstairs if he got the call on the wrong guy. The ref missed the hold on KVN and that WAS a safety.

I think the time and situation played into the decision as well. You have to make a quick call because the Chargers can snap the next play whenever they want, and a safety gives you the lead with the ball back, so it's a HUGE swing. At the time too, they had all three timeouts, so the risk probably seemed negligible. They didn't know they'd have to waste two TO's later on a substitution error and a boneheaded scuffle.

So overall we only have 1 AFC loss withthe other 3 being NFC losses against the best the NFC has to offer. I can finally say we can potentially go far this year

It's not like your allowed to hold someone when you're blocking them either, missed call

Ha, I didn’t even realize that. If it were a run play he wouldve / should’ve been flagged for holding so this being a pass play / defender not being aware shouldn’t have even mattered!
