Mac Jones appreciation thread

What rankles me are the Brady worshipers who want BB (and consequently the Pats) to fail for letting him go. I loved Tom Brady, I attended every single game he played in Foxboro and some away games as well including Super Bowls. He remains an amazing performer as the undisputed GOAT NFL QB. But I feel differently about him now for multiple reasons, foremost being he no longer is a New England Patriot. He also is a different guy, at least in terms of honing a "new" public image. I find much of it off-putting in contrast to what he was here -- that's just a personal thing unrelated to football but has helped me turn the page. Yes, I understand his personality allegedly was "muzzled" to an extent by the "Patriot Way," but some of the Guerrero/Gisele, etc. influence he's run with under the spotlight is a tad much.

Do I wish Brady had ended his career in New England? Ideally, sure. But I understand why he didn't and also believe he was complicit in that to at least a small degree. To me, Tom Brady is yesterday. I wish him well, still enjoy watching him play, but have no rooting interest in him, the Bucanneers All-Stars or Easy Chair Arians. I love what I've seen so far in Mac Jones and find him a breath of fresh air. It's wonderful watching the Patriots start to develop again as they did around Brady so many years ago. Just the same I am under no illusion Mac will be the next Drew Brees or next anyone -- he might fail, he might prove average, he might become a perennial all-pro. I'm just enjoying the ride with eyes wide open, no brake-pumping necessary.
Ditto across the board

Regarding the Bucs/ Brady All Star Championship, I try to be consistent...

Back in the Peyton Manning Era, my go-to put down of The Forehead was: Isn't it peculiar why the Colts organization must always surround the great Peyton Manning with a fleet of 1st round weaponry & talent? WRs, RBs, TEs, OL

In this seemingly never ending millenium of Lebron and the 24/7 worship he requires, my Pulitzer prize-worthy hot take that continues to hold water: Never has more heaven and earth been moved so one player can 'display his talents' and secure an occasional championship

And now Tompa going the Lebron team shopping route to demonstrate his greatness........

Yawn

These type of "earned" rings barely register on my scale of great sports accomplishments

The Buccaneers have basically become the NY Yankees of football - sign as many all-stars as possible and go all out. I prefer building through the draft myself.

Very hard to build through the draft when the team is picking #32 and #64. The Bucs are stacked because they chose very high in the draft for a number of years. Now that they chose late in the round their approach has to change.

Mac is on pace for 4320 yards passing for the season. That number would put him in the top 10 all time for the Pats for a single season.

Obviously with a big asterisk with the 17th game but still not bad at all.

Not bad, especially considering it would still be 4065 in a 16 game season, which would be the third highest total for a rookie QB all time:

Luck - 4374
Herbert - 4336
Newton - 4051

Yards can be a little overrated at times, but it's still impressive. Hopefully he can keep it up and keep improving this year faster than defensive coordinators can adjust to him.

So far I think the opposing defensive approach has been eight guys in the box, crowd the middle of the field, and a lot of blitzing. Mac seems to be beating the blitz, and if the O-line improves, the play action will be more effective. If Mac keeps hitting a few deep passes a game that will keep the safeties back and open things up underneath more. Back shoulder and jump ball passes are precision throws to outside (not easy). Harry can make those plays to further stretch the field wider. If we can stretch the field wider and deeper than everything will open up. Mac is throwing deeper, but we need to go wider too.

Not just his own personal trainer, but a lowlife who scammed people with fake cancer cures among other things.

A snake oil salesman who went on television, falsely presented himself as a doctor and claimed the pills he was selling cured cancer, AIDS, multiple sclerosis, heart diseas, diabetes, arthritis, and Parkinson's disease.

That's just one example. He's left a long trail of lowlife activities that have landed him in court numerous times, financial troubles and bankruptcies.

Brady seems like a nice guy but he chose to do a business venture with that type of character.

I'm 100% in on Mac.
I can do that because I'm just a fan.
I think they absolutely got the best QB available (Laurence may be better, but Mac's a better fit).
You can see how the other players respect his toughness.

QB is 90% between the ears. Brady has already proven that.
Mac is a winner and driven to improve. He will improve his arm strength, just like Brady

Before' QB's had to be 6'4 minimum. Wilson broke that mold.
Now they have to be dual-threat.
Teams are looking for the next Mahomes. They should be looking for the next Brady.

I am a lifelong Bama fan and Bama graduate. Mac is my all-time favorite Bama qb. I have NEVER been an NFL guy but have found myself watching the Patriots games and pulling for them. When Mac threw the long td vs. Dallas after the pick 6, I stood up and yelled-something I've never done for any team other than Bama. My wife was quite taken aback. I then told her, "I think I've become a Patriots fan." If it's okay with you folks, I may check in with you guys occassionally. If not, I'll slip back to the Bama board.

Brady is 44 and playing like a MVP....he must be doing something right for him. Oh and Brady is a football player and does not owe you an explaination of **** in his life.

Umm....almost all of the bucs defense is drafted players. Both their top receivers are drafted, their line is all drafted. Your supposed Pats team just spent 160 mil dollars in FA, more than any team in the league while the bucs kept the players they had. Or in other words, what in the actual **** are you talking about?

The pats just went out and spent 160 mil dollars in free agency...Brady went to a team that had not won a playoff game in 18 years. They literally kept all their players from last year....So you are not being consistent, you are being a hypocrite. 4 pass catchers were brought into the pats this year at over 80 mil dollars....The thing is, your scale does not really mean **** in the realm of sports. lol

I know it's heresy, but to me Brady became unlikable.

His own personal trainer on the sidelines...like BB said, you can't have 48 trainers on the sidelines. Why should Brady be the exception?
Pimping his TB 12 supplements during a pandemic. Videos of jet skiing in Costa Rica with the family while people are dying by the thousands.
"Watch me throw a football from one yacht to another".
Meetings with Kraft.
Pouting the loss of AB.

Guerrero said BB didn't evolve...meaning Brady didn't get preferential treatment.
He certainly earned it and I appreciate all the wonderful years, but it was time for a divorce.
The cupboard was certainly bare. Tom moved on to greener pastures.

I never doubted we would see Brady in a different uniform, ala Joe Montana and it finally happened.
Tom doesn't play for the Patriots anymore. I'm neutral about him now.
I imagine BB is a ruthless d!ck and difficult to play for. I'm surprised by Julian Edelman's fierce loyalty to the Pats.
He seems to have a different take than Tom.

I always wondered what it would look like if the Pats had a few down years.
I'm looking to forward to watching the rebuilding process...and the thinning of the herd fan-wise.
I know all you guys will still be here.
It always amazes me how pats fans dislike players that leave here more than any fan base I have ever seen. Its quite remarkable. Its also amazing how much even players today that play for the pats still love brady to death. I saw that after the game. I saw Belichick do something he never did before. I saw all the coaches come to him...So when you say unlikeable, maybe that is crybaby pats fanitis and not actual reality, because most everyone who knows Brady loves him to death. I am sure one day Mac will leave and you can just hate him at that point.

Nothing I posted was false. Brady is doing a business venture with a shady character.

What's more amazing is how Boston fans/media are quick to turn on successful players/coaches still playing or working for the organization.

LOL, they signed or acquired Brady, Gronk (via trade), Brown, and Fournette on offense. On defense, they signed Suh, JPP, Barrett, and Sherman. If that's not NY Yankees style roster management, I don't know what is. Without these players, they'd be a 3-4 win team.

And I understand that the Pats went out and signed a bunch of players. I don't like this style of building a roster. I always prefer drafting.

Makes ya wonder what he does for an encore or 20.

So they're obviously not your team.
Why are you here????

That’s not a lot of free agents overall. They’re paying roughly $17M for Gronk, Brown, Fournette, and Sherman combined. That’s nothing. Barrett was a good signing on a cheap deal after his rookie contract when he was a nobody. They got both Suh and JPP when their markets were relatively low.

The Yankees shelled out $200M contracts all the time and went after every player at his market peak.

I’m not seeing the connection at all. They built a heck of a team over many years of great drafting and then added on the final pieces via free agency.

The perception is they’re FA heavy because the late career hall of famers are imports. In reality, besides Brady, this was very much a homegrown team, and they haven’t given superstar contracts to lure players in.
