OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

The supposed inevitable Mahomes dynasty has been killed by Brady. Not to say he won’t breakthrough and win another SB because he’s still very young. But we’re gonna see what happened with Rodgers and Wilson going forward. AFC is stacked with awesome young QBs now. Allen, Herbert, Burrow, Lamar, possibly Baker idk. Mahomes is no shoe in to just coast every year, not with the that absolutely putrid defense.
I don't think it is the AFC as much as KCs team building philosophy. Just too much money tied up in a few players who are aging and not nearly enough resources on D.

But Brady and the Bucs did break them. The 4 man front with the 2 deep safeties is their kryptonite. They don't have the guys to beat it consistently and they are not patient enough either.

Mahomes is going to have to develop into a more traditional Qb for them to beat this. Hero ball plays right into its hands.

I would take Herbert over him because of this.

It’s an even worse approach than the Manning Colts or Rodgers Packers. It’s a little like the Seahawks superstar approach, but at least the Seahawks were looking for balance too.

Very thin margin for error. But really every great team of the cap era was about 3-5 years. The Patriots are the obvious outlier and unfairly used as the judging sticks for these other teams. It is so interesting to me but you can make the case that our 2 decade run broke the NFL on multiple levels.

The money ratio isn't the problem, though. Lousy drafting, especially on the defensive side, is the problem. Take a look at their defensive drafting since, say, the year they drafted Poe

I just see they hit on Jones other than that nothing...maybe Thornhill and Sneed

I swear the Chiefs are just one domestic violence 911 call away from their offense being crippled.

They’re one domestic violence call away from another distasteful late round steal at WR or RB.

Yeah...

You can pay multiple players high end salaries and still win, as we saw with the Patriots during the Brady era. But bad drafting is eventually going to kill you.

Mahomes is really careless with the ball. Alot of his greatness the last 3 years involved a lot of freak plays. Unless he improves his game, he'll just be another Cam Newton but with a SB.

From Elias: Tom Brady's 15 touchdown passes this season are the most passing TDs over the first five games of a season by a QB who started for the Super Bowl-winning team the previous season. Brady was one of four QBs who shared 14 when he had that through five games in 2015.

Nah he better than Cam in lots of ways. He needs to be patient and take what the defenses gives him.

He's been an NFL starter for 3 seasons. During those 3 seasons, he's reached the conference title game all 3 times. He's reached the Super Bowl twice. And he's won the Super Bowl once. And, if it wasn't for Tom Brady, he might be coming off of his 3rd consecutive Super Bowl win.

Cam Newton never even dreamed of being that kind of QB.

This is true: The only game in Bucs history with a higher third-down conversion rate than they had today was also the last time the Dolphins won in Tampa. In 1997.

Only five weeks in, but Bucs are on course to have three 1,000-yard receivers -- Mike Evans has 393 (on course for 1,336), Chris Godwin has 366 (on course for 1,244) and Antonio Brown has 325 (on course for 1,196). All three would hit 1,000 in a 16-game season as well.

That 2015 Pats team was maybe a top 3 Pats team in talent and potential over the entire 20 year run. Then they got hit by so many injuries to every important position it was absolutely horrifying.

I don't know where I'd slot that team among other Brady era squads, but the injuries definitely impacted the ability to win the title. That was a recurring theme during the Brady era. With better health come playoff time, they could have won it all in 2006, 2007, 2011, and 2015.

That's part of football, and all, but it's sort of staggering to think that Brady could be working on SB win #12 if it weren't for the injuries/illnesses.
