Belichick vs. Brady duel: the X and O's.

Yeah I was surprised that Lazar didn't really think this out. He's usually good with matchups.
I don't disagree with the overall concept but what happens if and when Bucs take a 2 score lead? Will Bill continue to encourage the Bucs to run?

Doubt it since Pats O isn't known for being explosive and they'll want to get the ball back. At that point Brady would feast. Bill has a huge challenge here. He can come up with a genius scheme and game plan but at some point the talent difference comes in play.

I think this is a great game to spread them out. I’d avoid bunch formations, honestly, because it would make life easier on them if we’re going to see a lot of zone. Spreading them out would also make life easier on the ground game.

I agree. I am thinking we will see that. I think we will see Jones in the shotgun a lot. He is just more comfortable in the shotgun and until the o-line fixes its problems, I think they need to dial back the play action because teams aren't biting on it and Jones seemed to get in his most trouble last week when he turned his back to the line to sell the play action. Plus, Kendrick Bourne looks to be the Pats' second most consistent receiver after Meyers and they need to give him more opportunities. And the Pats have shown in the past that they can have a very effective running game when they are running out of the shotgun a lot.

What are you thoughts on a 3-2-6 with heavy zone emphasis. Cover-3 with Cover-1 mixed in instead of vice versa? Light front. Invite the run and force Brady to be patient. Brady may come in with his hair on fire for this one and emotion may, HOPEFULLY, push him to force some stuff downfield. Would seem that dime personnel showing Cover-1 press pre-snap with outside leverage and bailing after the snap to choke off everything deep and forcing them to either run against that light front or dink and dunk while being patient might be the order of the day.
I wonder how we would feel if Bucs continually run it down our throats instead of Tom dinking and dunking us to death.

If Bucs put up 185 yds rushing in a loss it would piss me off way more than Tom laying 375 passing yds on us.

Belichick would love to see them run the ball and take it out of Brady's hands. I think if the Bucs try to win this game on the ground, the Pats have a very good chance of winning.

And besides, the Bucs haven't shown they are capable of rushing for 185 yards in a game. So far they are averaging about 56 YPG and 3.5 YPC even with opposing defenses playing pass first and willing to give up plays on the ground rather than letting Brady kill them on a deep pass.

Bucs have no idea what’s coming. They are going to get a heavy dose of Brandon Bolden running and in the passing game. Woo hoo!

It’s all about putting your best players out there. Am I right?

Bucs have the same identical O as last postseason where they rushed for 123 ypg. They are more than capable of running it.

The question is not what Belichick would love but how us fans would feel. It would suck if Pats D can't stop the run like last season after all the moves made this offseason. At least to me.

Yeah, I said earlier in the thread that it’s a better way to lose by less. What I’m hoping for out of that scheme is turnovers. That would be the one shot that we have.

The more I think about it the more I think the Pats should keep it simple on both sides of the ball and just try to execute properly and avoid the penalties and brain farts that have plagued them so far.

Since Scotty is out, I actually think we should come in and force Brady to throw deep every single time. Take away the run, take away the short game. Give him a single high look and invite him to throw on it. I would put all our energy up front and making sure Brady feels pressure or hurried on every single snap. I'm hoping BB will bring back the amoeba defense for this game or come up with something that's entirely out of left field that would force Brady to start thinking (and take away his quick release) particularly for third downs.

I wouldn't bother with disguising coverages- he's seen it all.

@KontradictioN, my initial guess was correct. Gronk is out.
Excellent. Then I’m down to choke off everything in the shallow and intermediate levels of the field. Flood that middle zone and those hooks, let him hold the ball waiting for the deep routes to develop, and smash the f.uck out of him. I do disagree with not disguising coverages though. Just because he’s seen it all doesn’t mean he isn’t prone to the occasional brain fart. We need a turnover or two.

It doesn't work that way in the NFL. The same players can produce different results from one year to the next. This year so far, the Bucs cannot run the ball even when they want. Neither Ronald Jones or Leonard Fornette are Nick Chubbs or Derrick Henry. They are both average RBs at best which means their production cannot be counted on week in and week out and just because they got hot in the playoffs doesn't mean they can reproduce it this year.

And also in the post season, the Bucs got up to leads in most of those games (a few were sizable leads) and ran to protect a lead. They didn't win on the ground. They got up early with the passing game and used their running game to eat up time and let the defense shut down opposing offenses.

And I was just pointing out that if the Bucs are running the ball instead of passing the ball, that means that they are playing into Belichick's game plan rather than playing their game plan. I just think the Bucs have a great chance of losing if they focus more on the run than the pass.

FWIW, Zo was 100% confident Gronk wasn't going to play yesterday. It seems like he might have had some inside info.

Brady is the first legit QB they’re facing since Josh Allen embarrassed us in Foxboro last December.

But Brady's kryptonite is a strong pass rush up the middle. If the Pat can pressure up the middle, they have the chance of making Brady as bad as Tua or Winston. Not guaranteed, but Brady has a history of having his worst games when a team can pressure up the middle.

The quality of QB doesn't change a pass rush unless the Pats change their defensive game plan.

Comparing Brady with Tua and Winston is mind boggling, nevermind the fact that both those suckass QBs beat this team. Tap out. Go get some ice cream or something. LMAO

Stop putting words in my mouth. Never compared him to Tua or Winston as far as quality of QB. I said if he can be pressured up the middle it can force him to play as bad as Tua or Winston. Stop being butt hurt because I said something negative about Brady.

It is a proven fact that Brady's biggest weakness is that he gets rattled when he is consistently pressured up the middle. It can turn him into a mediocre QB and has done so in games in the past. That was my point. If the Pats can consistently pressure Brady up the middle, they have a chance to turn him into a QB the quality of Tua or Winston. I never said that Tua or Winston were in the same stratosphere as Brady.

If you turned off your obvious pro-Brady biases, you would see that not only did I not say anything outrageous but also gave a spot on analysis of Brady's weakness.

And the Pats beat themselves vs. the Dolphins. And the Pats' offense was the reason they lost to the Saints. The Pats' defense held the Dolphins to 17 points and the Saints' offense to 21 points with one of the TD drives only being 9 yards.

Thanks for shedding light with "your spot on analysis" of Brady's weakness that according to you is already "a proven fact."

My little niece could parrot that same "proven fact" analysis after hearing it 200 times the last few days, except she wouldn't try to take credit as "her spot on analysis." LMAO

Now about that ice cream, avocado OK with you?

That’s not a new thing, the league already knows that. Much easier said than done. Bucs OL is excellent.

Not only that, but Brady already knows exactly what Bill will try to do to stop him. He spent 20 years with the man in a room breaking down tape. He knows exactly how he thinks. Nothing will surprise him. This game will come down to execution. If his receivers drop a bunch of balls or deflect passes into the hands of DBs then that's the type of play that can change a game.
