Red Zone Problems on Offense for 3 Straight Years

I think the last two games was partly OL being a sieve and just Bills hubris. We all know this is a gameplan offense. And in Bills mind he may figure he can eat the Jets and Dolphins with a vanilla gameplan. Run the ball, avoid turnovers and play tough defense.

Now, that's not going to work against more explosive teams. And we will see this week if Mac airs it out more with Trent brown back against the saints.

Sean Payton isn't going to let the Patriots run every play once in the Redzone. He's going to make Mac pass it.

Keep on talking like a crazy person. You claimed elsewhere that Brady is the one insisting on shotgun. Even though he played great with 2TEs with Bill O'Brien and had maybe his most efficient season ever in a 12 personnel system . Show me how the Patriots playing shotgun this season is related to Tom Brady in Tampa. Or even any prior season. It's been skippy mcD one trick shotgun pony since 2005 for anyone paying attention.

The Patriots didn’t win a Lombardi when O’Brien was Brady’s OC, they won 3 when MacDaniels was the OC. You also claimed that MacDaniels didn’t win without Brady but he went 11-5 with Cassell, who hadn’t played since high school, and the Patriots set a record for attempts without an interception with Garrapolo and Brissett when Brady was suspended. In short you are completely full of sh.t.

We all know this is a game plan offense.
Is?
or.....Wants to be?
Two games into this 2021 season with an offense manned by a rookie QB, four new skill players, a porous OL already afflicted with tackle injuries and issues, do you really believe the NE offense is currently capable of reinventing itself weekly depending on the opponent?

It seems like the offense is a lot more like it was early in Brady's career than the offense that switched what they were doing weekly. This is a ball control offense built around short passes, runs and play action passes. The offense is built to play complementary football and avoid putting the defense in bad situations.

To be fair, with the amount the offense has been blitzed the first two weeks and the shakiness of the line getting the ball out quick, play action and running the ball using whams, traps a counters seems like the game plan that makes the most sense. If a team decided not to blitz the Pats in a future game I think you will see some deviation from the game plan we have seen the first two weeks.

Problem is, its 2021 not 2001. Passing games are a lot different now and the pound the ball, dont hurt us Mr. Qb does not really work that well anymore, so what that means is there are going to be some struggles from the offense until everyone can get up to speed and for a Qb that might take a year or two. I mean we played two of the bottom feeders of the league in the first two games, its not going to get easier going forward.

Not really true. It's true in that the league has changed with more offense and it's easier for QBs and offenses, but that doesn't mean you throw out a good, strategic traditional offense, slowing the game down, running clock and making methodical decisions centered around more traditional schemes and formations within a style of play.

You want ALL available to your offense. You don't throw away parts of the playbook because the rules favor offenses.

Why does everything have to be so black and white for fans like you?

Um what? Who set a record? Cassel? Who went 10-6 with a average chiefs team? Or Cassel who lost 5 more games than the year prior and had half the numbers of the offense with Brady? I guess the OC for the chiefs is a super coach too.

Excellent post.

Well yes it is true. It was easier in 2001 to be a run first pound the ball team and win a superbowl than it is now. So yes, that is true.

Easier?

No, it wasn't. It was harder to play offense pre Goodell. It's easier today. Ground and pound will never go away as an option and it's easier today to use that because more teams are concerned about the pass shifting to lighter, faster LBs.

Do you ever make sense? It's like you're intentionally trying to twist yourself into a corner.

Yes it was....teams were not throwing the ball all over the field in 2001. I think Brady lead the league in TD's in 2002 with 28. Guys have 28 half way through the season now. You had more teams that ran the ball a lot more, and that was the style of offense that was still ran in the league. Backs were still in high regard because the passing game did not open up. So when I say easier, you culd win playing that style of football easier because you didnt have QB's throwing for 400 yards and 5 td's every game while you are trying to grind out 20 points.

So, you think it was easier to play offense in general pre Goodell rule changes and how the league is now?

When you have defenders more concerned about the pass, how could it be harder to load up and take advantage of running on that? You're as backwards as DropKickFlutie when he attempts to make a point. Within 3 posts, he has himself contradicting the prior post he makes.

This is like saying big stats today are similar to Dan Marino's 1984. Now, it was harder back then to be a QB or ANYTHING on offense than it is today.

It's a fact. Defenders aren't allowed to do anything.

No, I said it was easier to win doing that style of offense. I said it twice now, do you need a 3rd time? Also Goodell was not the commish when the rule change happened with passing in 2004. Can you at least get some things right in your silly troll fests?

Just ignore him. I did today and my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner.

When Brady was suspended to start the 2016 season Garrapolo and Brissett set a record for starting the season without an interception, 251, and neither had any real NFL experience,. And after losing Brady for the season he took a QB who hadn’t played football since high school and went 11-5 with Cassel at QB. MacDaniels haters can hate that all they want but it’s fact.

And yes, Eric Bienemy has been a very good OC in K.C.

Those two only threw 116 of those passes….Brady threw the other 135. It’s good they didn’t throw an INT, but this claim is disingenuous.

They averaged 20.2 points with JG/JB. They averaged 30.0 points with Brady. A difference of nearly 10 ppg is gigantic. One is below average and the other is typically among the best in the league.

Same split with Cassell…about 10 ppg less than with Brady.
