Game Day Thread Official Post-Game Thread: Week 1 - Pats lose to Dolphins 17-16

THIS IS OUR LIVE GAME DAY THREAD:

This is where we gather to follow things on Game Day. Obviously, emotions tend to be high so if anyone gets a little crazy, the use of the “Mute” button is encouraged on anyone who may be annoying to you to control your experience and to allow the moderators to also enjoy the game.

At the same time, please take a deep breath before over-reacting for the sake of making this a pleasant experience for everyone.

Question for Patriot fans at the stadium; was Gillette sold out. I seen alot of empty seats in the 300's section...

Fair point, I just don’t like the depth behind Harris, the rook has fumbling issues.
Fair enough. If the rookie bombs, the Sony trade will definitely turn from a reasonable way of getting something for nothing to a bad misjudgment..

It's funny I see you frantically downvoting multiple posters who are being critical of the team. Your face must be bright red and fuming. Sorry stop being a homer. These problems were called out before the game and they happened (run defense short yardage, no Gilmore, importance to stay in 12 personnel and no crappy shotgun that the oc always reverts to leaving his QBs open to huge hits)

Bad first cause Im still pissed

Our Dline wasnt as good as i hoped on the ground and we still have problems on horizontal plays. Pisses me off that we did not correct this for this game, after the whole last year of this crap.

Herron was dreadful. Every play he was lagging. The whole line disappointed on the ground game tbh

Gilmore needs to comeback, but I was surprised by Mills.

**** you Harris and Stevenson. Ill get over by tomorrow, but **** you

Good stuff
Agholor was great

Jonnu was great

Meyers was clutch

Mac Jones

incredibly sloppy play from a BB coached team. what was it 4 fumbles today?

Aside of that I've got a good feeling about this team if they clean up the mistakes.

Run defense. Held them to 3.2 yards, 2.7 if you remove the one longish carry. Secondary, held Tua well under what he routinely put up last year. Turnovers and penalties at the wrong time lost this game, end of story, no matter HOW much you want to blame your personal objects of hatred. As for being a homer, the other name for that is being a ****ing FAN. If you don't like the team, if you don't like Belichick, GTFO and go root for some other team.

I don't think this is it. I don't know what the real problem is, but it seems like there's still a talent deficiency on offense. Maybe losing Brown on the OL was just too much, but the right tackle didn't make Harris fumble. For that matter, the offensive scheme also did not make Harris fumble.

With Trent Brown hurt it was criminal to be spreading out 5-wide shotgun so much. I think the Pats would have won if they kept Henry and Jonnu Smith both at the line next to the OLine, Mac under center, and just ball controlled the game. Mac started 8/9 playing this way. And Harris was picking up 8 yards a carry in the 1st quarter. They then went away from it.

Very uncharacteristic. Also a couple huge Mac throws called back by penalty

After watching four quarters of this game that the Patriots staff prepared for...I have to doubt they have the horses to compete for wins. 16 points AT HOME after preparing for weeks will NOT cut it in today's offense crazy NFL. This team will falter because their margin of error is so much smaller than most of their opposition. All game long I felt they were always in danger of NOT finishing drives...playcalling is so familiar. The rest of the league must have a library on McD's tendencies at this point.

Brady is officially dead to me. Mac Jones played that game beautifully. They should have put it on his shoulders at the end there. The game wasn't too big for him overcoming penalties, turnovers, and poor O line play, he was in a position to win.

This is going to be a good season. The Pats are just going to get better. I can't believe how well he played.

Our O didn’t get any better. It’s still anemic. When your D gives up only 17 points you should be winning the game.

Turnovers are automatically reviewed and they upheld the call. Do most people here watch football ever?
Forgot about that. Terrible call.

Really sucks to lose that way, fumbling inside the 10 yard line only down a point with like 2 min left.... all they really needed to do at that point was burn more time, kick the chip shot field goal and pretty much seal the win... but can't totally blame Harris since he was clearly gassed after Stevenson was benched early for also fumbling. Just not a good situation.

Far, far too many mistakes and costly penalties. The refs were truly awful today but I don't have the willpower to even dig into that. We know Bill will put a lot of time into cleaning things up and hopefully there's a quick turnaround there.

The one thing to take away is that after 1 game it looks like our QB of the future is here. Mac Jones was a baller today and bailed the team out of multiple bad situations that were not his fault. He ended the day 29/39 (74% completion percentage) for 281 yards, a TD, no picks and a 102.6 passer rating. Despite no Trent Brown and an iffy performance by Herron, and a lot of pressure from Miami, he made some beautiful throws. Some misses on the quick passes but it's understandable - that rhythm will come with time. I'm very excited about Mac and the future of the team.

Discuss!
Absolutely unacceptable to turn the ball over there….hit the chip take the win….no I don’t blame harris overall I’m guessing he was spent because we he’s not a fumbler….Stephenson as far as his pro career this far?! He’s proven to be a fumbler. Hope they can fix his issue if not I’m sure he will be cut….BB doesn’t put up with that for long
