We all need to temper our expectations

Mac has the O-line behind him. It’s important for the skill position players to be in position to make plays. I just hope they’re not that conservative when it comes to the offensive playcalling . Still feel this kid will end up being one of the best QBs taken and a complete steal.

Pretty sure if the O-line is behind Mac, he won't last one game.

Aren't you the dude that picked Mac from the very beginning. You're the one that called it, correct? Congratulations.

Yes i wanted no part of justin fields. Mac will be offensive rookie of the year that’s my prediction. Could he co-share it with Lawrence? Maybe.

I was depressed after Brady left and we had as much hope as the Bungles last year.

We get a promising young rookie QB to keep our hopes high on the future of our team for possibly years to come.

But I am told to temper my expectations.

Hell No. I will continue to feel like I am at an all you can eat lobster and Filet buffet with free lap dances

If it does not work out then at least I got to smile a bit for this upcoming season
And if it does what, angioplasty and you marry a stripper? Goddammit how does this metaphor even work? :D

Just having fun, no real life.

Prediction for 2021-2022- you can take it to the bank!

19-1. Loss to Tampa Bay in Week 4. Without checking, New York video ref Walt Anderson overturns winning Mac Jones passing TD because football was underinflated.

Patriots videotape Jets game from illegal location. No one cares.

Malcolm Butler comes out of retirement. Belichick apologizes and plays Butler 100% of defensive snaps.

Robert Kraft opens chain of massage parlors.

With 30 seconds left in Super Bowl LVI, rather than hand ball to Leonard Fournette, Brady audibles pass to Antonio Brown from two-yard-line. Butler jumps route and intercepts Brady on goal line.

Brady blames Subway Spicy Italian BMT (Big. Meaty. Tasty.) Footlong he ate just before the game.

Butler named SBLVI MVP. Gives Brady pick-up truck.

Gronk re-retires. Giselle leaves Tom Brady for Mac Jones.

Roger Goodell fired.
The truth will be stranger than this fiction.

I'll eat anything. In 2018 a friend and I ate bugs during a preseason game. Every time the other team scored we had to eat one of the bigger ones. Every time the Pats did something bad like a penalty, TO, we would have one of the little ones.
Don't eat slugs, they can carry parasites that will infest your brain and you die a slow horrible death over years

Yeah, I remember reading about that kid it was sad.

By "anything" I mean "things people around the world eat"

I really wanna eat balut, for instance.

TWO things happened: They hired Mac and they dumped Cam.

For me, whatever misleading euphoria I might feel relates entirely to the dumping of Cam, a hopeless waste-of-space dead end if ever there was one, whose absence in itself is a cause for hope. Cam's banishment was a necessary condition for future success, but not a sufficient one.

Which brings us to Mac, who offers the promise of success but not the certainty. First off, he IS a rookie, and with rookies you never know. Second, I do worry about his stamina and his ability to with stand the punishment physically. Let's face it: he's squishy. This can certainly be addressed over time, but as he's a starter NOW, it's a problem now. I don't like the look of that knee brace either.

On balance, I think he'll do well for a rookie, which means chances of making the playoffs sit right at about 50/50. If there are injuries, of course - as it seems there might well be given the history of a number of our players - then the odds decline accordingly.

Squishy just means more cushion for the pushin when he does get hit.

Fields couldn’t even beat Andy Dalton for the starters job. Mac won the job and clearly so if you take some players word for it.

As for OROY that will be tough… Pats will run it a lot I think.

We’ve been pretty spoiled with the GOAT.

There’s only one of him. Mac will never be him. No way not a chance. And that’s ok. Mac isn’t a bust for not being Brady.

I think we can win with Mac.

Yes. I don’t understand the connection between being unhappy when you lose and being afraid to have hope before the season starts

You might look elsewhere for wisdom on emotional intelligence. :)

Agreed and don't think for a moment that BB doesn't want to prove he can win without Brady. Making the playoffs and even winning a game would be a great first year..........

Gilmore being out has tempered my expectations more than Jones starting which actually raised my expectations. It's not the I think Gilmore is still at the DPOY level. It's that he's still a plus player and the replacements aren't. If you move Jones to the outside you're weakening two positions. If you leave him inside that means you're starting either Mills or Williams which means you're going to have to slant the coverage that way. Jackson is a great #2 but he was exposed last year against the 1's a bit.

The DL is going to have to play lights out and get pressure without blitzing. They cannot have an injury to Judon or Uche. Lastely somebody inside has to generate some consistent rush.

My fear if the secondary gets exposed, especially if Gilly is out longer than expected, we're going to see a return to bend but don't break. God please not that. It's as bad as the Cam offense.

WIth the emergence of Jackson as a top 50 player, solidity of Jones as a top slot guy, Dugger's development, Phillips continued improvement, it is still a top 12 defensive backfield even if the "other" outside CB is just average. I think that spot is rotational until Gilmore is back, based on matchups, and often they'll have 6 DB's on the field, reducing the need for any one to be an excellent one on one cover guy.

The key (as it usually is) will be to improve the run defense from last year. If they can't stop the run in their base packages, they'll never be in 3rd down distances that allow for 6 DBs. But if they can keep teams in 3rd and long consistently, I think the pass rush will be good enough to hide whoever our weakest link is in the secondary. Not every time, but enough to be a good defense until Gilmore comes back. Then, barring further major injuries, it has a chance to be become REALLY good.
