OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

Aaron ****ing Rodgers I have no respect for anyone who thinks that highly of that front running stat padder. Was researching for fantasy football and came up on a stat, Rodgers threw 12 TDS from three yards or fewer from the goal line
Sounds about right. I have a buddy who’s a huge fantasy guy and he had Aaron Jones last season. He wasn’t happy with Rodgers constantly stealing TD’s.

Rodgers had 8 1-yard TD passes.

Ya the stat I saw was 8 1- yard Td’s and 3 from 3 yard in which is absurd since we all know he’s a front runner anyways

The only team that can stop the Bucs are the packers. I don’t see any other team out there. Packers play a difficult schedule this year and i wonder if the OL is better this year.
They won't lose to Rodgers. Last year was GBs chance with Brady still new and he still smoked them twice.

Btw, they don't play in the regular season which is a bummer. I love watching Suh make Rodgers cry.

You trust the rams? Or Seattle? I think the rams are really hyped up.
There isn't a team in the NFC. The only team that may nip at them is the Saints because Payton is that good.

Rams matchup well vs the Bucs they got good corners and can pressure Brady up the middle his weakness...49ers are interesting as well with all their guys healthy. Greenbay will always be frauds until they prove they can get to the Superbowl.
Stafford does not beat this team. The Niners Qb position is still too unsettled. Shanny said he may play both QBs because that guy is the king of waffling.

Nice to see the offense smoking. Get your popcorn ready!

As strange as this may sound, I think Brady was disappointed with last year. All the fits and starts. I think he always knew this potential was there and he finally had GM that agreed with him and brought them all back.

This offense certainly has a chance to be historic especially if the D plays to it's potential. Tyron looks like another home run from Licht.

I want to see if they can beat the 2007 Patriots Points Per Drive record.

2007 would probably still be more impressive even if they do because of the era, but still would be cool.
The NFC South competition is weak and the Bucs schedule is pretty easy other than the Rams Bills and maybe the Colts and Pats games.

The 07 Pats schedule was very hard and to me that makes 16-0 even more impressive.

I think the Bucs will definitely make a run at the Broncos points record, the 17th game could put them over the top.

He definitely didn’t go all-in for Brady’s last few years. If he did, he would have backloaded contracts and traded draft picks for known commodities. He continued working within the 1-2 year cap responsibility window whereby the team is very competitive every year, even if they’re not maximizing every move to win-now like the Broncos 2012-15, Saints, 2018-20, and Bucs (starting now, we’ll see more of that.)

He tried get Brady weapons. Traded a first for Cooks, but that wasn’t a great fit. Three more firsts spent on Wynn, Michel, and Harry. Signed AB. So it‘s not like he purposely left Brady out there in 2019 like that.

There are two issues that, I think, caused it to end:

1. Brady, and Gronkowski, partially due to their aging, didn’t want to be mico-managed about rest, nutrition, etc. and wanted a more laid back (and common sense) coach. And I think that‘s where the Brady—Bill schism begins…a guy who wants to do it his way, and his way also has an unprecedented timeframe for how long he can play, and a controlling, “year too early is better” coach who isn’t okay with this on numerous levels.

2. The Patriots drafting is barren for years, which makes it an easier decision, because Brady is no longer bound to the Patriots as “the best chance to win.” However, I’d say the way Bill went about the entire process, including the way he approached free agency, the 2020 season, etc. really makes it difficult to buy that he was rebuilding…rather, I believe he thought he was simply swapping out the position and would be fine.

From that perspective, Brady made a decision that benefitted him, but the Patriots happily watching him walk away, was that the best decision for them? Absolutely not. If they could have convinced him to stay, knowing 2020 would be challenging but seeing all the cap space in 2022, they’d be Super Bowl favorites right now and are probably still contending through at least 2023. The 2020 cap “situation” had nothing to do with this…they absolutely could have kept him and worked the contract in one of many ways. It had to do with them, and Bill, refusing to get on their knees and beg, as any other franchise would have done in this case. But not only did they refuse to beg, they really didn’t do anything. They treated him like every other aging player, hoping he’d have almost no market and would come running back to them.
That last line is supported by the fact that they didn't have even a serviceable QB to replace Brady.

I read somewhere that Rodgers set the NFL record last year for 1 yard TD passes (8).

Too bad PFR play index is paywalled now I’d love to do a search and find out what the score and game time was for those 8. If Gb was way up in the game then lol.

Touchdown #1: Winning 22-10
Touchdown #2: Winning 30-27
Touchdown #3: Winning 14-0
Touchdown #4: Tied 7-7
Touchdown #5: Winning 7-3
Touchdown #6: Winning 21-3
Touchdown #7: Losing 0-3
Touchdown #8: Tied 0-0

The 2016 NFC Championship game vs Atlanta always makes me laugh because the Rodgers fanboys say his defense screwed him that game and he had 3 TD passes and a 90+ passer rating.

Touchdown #1: 2 yards while losing 31-0
Touchdown #2: 3 yards while losing 37-7
Touchdown #3: 1 yard while losing 44-15

Agreed.

And Bill is an all time great coach for sure. I think he’s the GOAT not only for the rings also the reverence and respect this guy gets warranted or not is unparalleled in any sport. Like Brady he is used as the model of greatness for his job. No other coach makes opposing teams and fans worry like Bill has over the years. I mean let’s face it the only reason why people think the Pats have a chance to keep the week 4 game from being the historical soul crushing beatdown that it really should be is Bill. That kind of respect represents all time greatness to me.

But looking only at 2020-21…. Is he still one of the best coaches in the nfl today? That’s a harder question to answer. Times change, players change, the game changed. Bill’s act and style hasn’t. What worked for coaching back in the day may not work as well today. When players like Gronk and Brady have had enough of Bill then that tells you something. Look at Coughlin, he was a great coach and his BB-like style didn’t work anymore so the Giants showed him the door.

I don’t think Bill had his best coaching year last year and still did well to coach a crap roster to win 7 games. Let’s see what happens this year. Either way the excuses last season were embarrassing I expect we don’t hear any of that this season.

It's interesting, Bill got a lot of reverence from opposing teams and the media.

Looking back on it, it seems like all that praise went to opposing so fans and the media could talk about how great their QB was and only if the HC was Bill they would have 10 or more Superbowls.

It happened with Colts fans and GB fans especially.

However, Brady has really shattered that thought, whether fair or not.

Rams, 49ers, and Saints are probably the three most dangerous NFC opponents for the Bucs. I'll toss in the Cowboys as a (very) dark horse, in case that defense changes enough to be legitimately complimentary to the offense.

None of those teams have quarterbacks i would trust.

I am not sold on stafford on now becoming a great QB sing he left Detroit.

lmao I watched that trash game and I don’t remember this.

Basically the packer offense didnt do crap until they were so far down that Atlanta was making hotel reservations on the sideline for the superbowl, then against prevent defense, did a couple drives for scores.

Assuming they stay healthy, Bucs repeat as NFC Champs.

There will be contenders that turn into pretenders when they face the Bucs come playoff time.

It’s amazing to me how the Chiefs are still the Vegas and overall consensus favorite to win the Super Bowl. Hopefully the Bucs can manufacture some disrespect crap out of that.

Because it's Mahomes, he was injured and his online was hurt. They improved their Online and will be the best team because they improved their one weakness.

That's the perception, and since Vegas only cares about how people place their best, thats how the odds go.

In reality the Bucs clicked after the bye week and were the best team in football from that point forward.

So yeah it's foolish, but the perception won't end until this season.
