Jakobi Meyers a good bet to lead the team in targets, receptions, and yards

Meyers has been excellent since he came to the Pats. From day one he acted like he belonged. May go down as one of the best undrafted rookie free agents in Pat’s history. Had almost 60 catches in 14 games last year despite HORRENDOUS QB play. I think he catches 80 this year. He really is an interesting slot receiver in that he actually has some size.

He had a phenomenal college career, especially his last year in college (92 catches and over 1000 yards receiving). I was shocked he wasn’t drafted, but I’m guessing his 40 time made him drop.

If only he didn’t have his growth stunted by his pouty QB during his rookie year…..

Funny he said he studied a lot of youtube of keenan allen because allen became an all pro due to good technique instead of freak athleticism. Definitely a good route runner to study from.

...With regard to Meyers, I don't think that he is a #1 WR or that he would be so on almost any passing team in contention. I recall having a player who had 911 in passing yards. We dumped him after that season. He just wasn't good enough. Maybe, Meyers will develop to be a star receiver...

We could've used Brandon Lloyd's 911 yards during the 2013 season.

I agree and said so at the time.

I am NOT suggesting cutting Myers. I think that he will be an important part of our passing attack.

My point is that 1000 yards does NOT mean that Myers is a top WR, or even a very good one.

Everyone was talking about Cam's AMAZING day last week because he threw some NFL-standard passes and completed them.
But the TD to Meyers was not an impressive pass by Cam, it was the best catch-and-run by Meyers as a pro.
That's why it should be a story. He turned up field and juked and powered into the EZ like a real #1WR.
We haven't seen him do that thus far. It seems he's playing with the confidence and chip on his shoulder - like he took the torch from Edelman.
And I'm stoked to see that this season!

"Jakobi Meyers can’t be stopped.
Meyers has been more open than 7-Eleven all training camp and preseason, regardless of who he’s been working against. Wednesday was no exception.

The third-year receiver looks like the best wideout on the team right now, routinely losing cornerbacks on every route with impressive short-area quickness and shift route-running."

Because you're fixated with pedigree and think Meyers is a #3 WR even though he's clearly outperforming Agholor, Bourne, Henry, and Smith in getting open and targets from either QB. That's awesome you think even if he's a 1000 yard receiver that he's not a good receiver. Weird how you've been secretly hating on unheralded producers like Edelman, Welker, Troy for 20 years and we didn't know till now.

.

I'm really disappointing that Myers is our #1 receiver. We just paid Nelson Agalor 26 million for 2 years and Kendrick Bourne 22.5 million for 3 years. That's top dollar for us and we are not getting value so far in return. I guess i'm bitter because i was looking for Randy Moss, Brandon Lloyd type production highlights in the Preseason. Well, we shall see.

Edelman, Welker and Brown took years to develop as receivers. They all were top punt returners.

I think that Meyers needs to be compared with top receivers, not to the best slot receivers and punt returners of all time.

As far as 1000 yards (or close) being the mark of a top patriot wide receiver, I would just point to Lloyd who got 911 yards and was cut because he just wasn't good enough. My point is not that it was right to cut Lloyd (it wasn't), just that 1000 yards doesn't necessarily mean much. In 2020, we arguably had the worst passing game in the NFL (certainly close). Myers was the one who got all the targets. Sure, Myers showed that he was better then Harry.

Perhaps Meyers will be on of the top receivers in the NFL this year, perhaps not. What is more important to me is that Belichick has addressed the issue of the passing game by acquiring and signing 5 top receiving threats to add to Meyers (2 WR, 2 TE and White). I will be fine if Meyers is anywhere between #1 to #6 on the 2021 passing stats. I certainly won't be disappointed if the two new WR and TE's have more of a passing team role than Myers. And I won't be disappointed if Myers were to lead the team in targets, receptions and yards.

My very personal opinion is that Myers has not yet shown himself to be a top NFL receiver. I will pleasantly surprised if that happens. Given what Belichick spent on WR's and TE's, my guess is that Belichick would also be pleasantly surprised.

I wouldn’t sour on Agholor and Bourne until they’ve played some games that count. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Agreed.
I can't believe these high priced new toys collectively have zero regular season yards after zero regular season games.

Who can forget the value Randy Moss exhibited in the 2007 preseason?
Game 1....DNP
Game 2....DNP
Game 3...DNP
Game 4....DNP

Bill must show honor

Since his first preseason game against the Lions (where he got 2 TDs), I've been screaming like a lunatic (close to par for the course for me) that he's going to be the next Jerry Rice (at 95% seriousness - they're basically the same height/weight/speed). I guess the kids these days would call me a borderline "stan". When Brady wouldn't throw him the ball, I would jokingly yell that besides looking at the mirror, he doesn't recognize that level of greatness. When BB didn't play him earlier last year (with Zuber ahead of him at one point), it was the second time I thought how could our coach be so wrong?

I have no doubt whatsoever about Meyers' ability to perform well here...none.

It's Every. Other. WR. Here. that gives me pause...

Is this an ongoing joke that I am not aware of or are people still going with the original misreport of Bourne's contract details? It's 3 for $15M.
