Not to mention Day 2 of Mac body shaming

I wonder if Shannahan is reading the Mac reports screaming at Lynch.
Remember the original rumor was they were set on Mac then last minute Lynch went Balls to the wall for Lance.
I remember watching Jones light it up in the title game and thought well if BB really wants Jones he needs to get in the top 3

A great day for the offence as detailed by the beat reporters but what about the defence. Other than they seemed to be in control it woould have been good to hear about them as well. I did read Barmore had some good 1 on 1's.

I think they are happy w Trey Lance.

Lance really seems like a shanahan pick. These “offensive geniuses” are more concerned with innovation than winning a lot of the time.
Not to mean that as a slam on Lance, just that he is a dual threat that affords more creativity.

The reporters were busy at a coronation

For sure , to just take a step back ......this is nothing but good news , if he can keep learning and progressing at the rate he is we could have. a great future

I'd like to know if Rham was in on any passing downs. Really curious to know if he was adequate in picking up rushers/blitzers
Can you imagine him catching passes out of the backfield ? That’s gotta be scary for DBs.

I can't remember what show I heard the following on yesterday, but it stated someting to the effect that only 7 of the last 31 QBs taken in the first round played as above average QBs in their rookie seasons, based on whatever metric(s) being used.
But Mac doesn't have to be an above average QB.

He just has to be better than Cam

I'm very much on the start Mac week 1 bandwagon. The rookie contract is just too important to waste. And the first year is generally a learning experience anyway. Something probably will happen at some point to open the door for Mac, but what is it doesn't? Should we be prepared for the possibility he sits all year? I'm not. BB shouldn't allow the possibility to exist either.

We also need to remember as a general rule. A QBs first year of playing in the NFL and going into the playoffs almost always ends in a loss, even for the best ones. The difference here may well be between a 3 year to 4 year championship window. That is a 33% difference, which is huge.

The second sentence is a bit misleading. Most of the times when a rookie QB starts, they are starting on a bad team. Most teams that get rookie QBs who start right away are drafting in the first part of the first round. Russell Wilson won a game in the playoffs his rookie season (and the Seahawks didn't lose in the second game because of him because he played well). But odds are very good that the Pats are not winning the Super Bowl this year with Mac Jones at QB.

Mac Jones was a surgical 35 of 40 against the Giants defense in practice, including a stretch of 18 consecutive completions. Jones hit Jakobi Meyers for a 50-yard TD against double coverage in the final two-minute period. With temps approaching 90 degrees, it was an intense day.

Fixed it for you. Odds are just as good that they're not winning the SuperBowl with Cam at QB either.

A bit misleading since many QBs taken in the first round are not as ready to start as Mac Jones is. Hell, at least of two guys taken before him this year are near universally believed to not be nearly as ready to start in the NFL as Jones. Jones came from a pro style offense and an offense very similar to the Patriots. Guys like Trey Lance or Justin Fields didn't have that type of experience that Jones has.

No guarantees that Jones will be above average as a rookie, but he is more NFL ready than most QBs coming into the NFL.
