Pats trade Sony Michel to LAR

Should’ve been a 4th round pick straight out. We are horrible at trading our own players. Never get good value. Michel was actually having a good camp, and looked good during the preseason games. He added pass catching this year. I know he was never coming back, but you need to squeeze out more when you’re trading to a desperate team. Wouldn’t be surprised if he has his 1st 1,000 yard season this year (if he stays healthy). Was really good his 1st season and last season.

Bill follows his one year early vs one year late M.O.

I like Sony and have been a big supporter of his. But.. they didn't pick up his 5th year, so this was his final year of the contract, they have 5 other running backs who they like a lot, and they can save over a million bucks, and pick up what looks to be a 4th round pick. Not too bad.

This looks good if the backs can stay healthy.
I can’t believe we couldn’t pull a third though.

Is this good value for Sony , a 5th and 6th round pick ??

Sorry , just saw the post re this becoming a 4th rounder

He was having a good camp, I am a little surprised he is being traded. Compensation seems a little low, but I am not expert on RB trade value.

We do have depth at the position and it does save us a roster spot.

I guess there is absolutely no reason to complain. Move makes sense.

I don’t mind that trade. I don’t have a strong opinion on this move except that I am not confident that Harris will stay healthy for a full year.

So Bill traded a veteran player that by all report out there was having his best TC as a patriots for an unproven rookie. I hope he has the same approach with the QB position

I think the value is three-fold: He's never been a feature back, is in the last year of his contract, and running backs in general (outside of the guys at the tippy top) are being valued less and less in the NFL.

No offense Chris, but one thing you do consistently is overrate our players' trade value.
I was throwing in a mid pick too.
No offense taken.
Both players are still young and were highly regarded prospects.

I mean yes that’s the question if Harris goes down with a Injury and JJ and Rhamondre falter while Sony becomes XBR in LA then this will look terrible.
Your right by all accounts Mac Jones should be the starter.

He was a feature back in 2018.

Reason why the comp is low is he's damaged goods

I guess my Michel to Rams was accurate just not the comp was hoping we would package him and Harry for Kupp.
?? Rams would have to take a huge cap hit to do that lol.

Makes sense with how good Stevenson and Taylor are looking. Before their emergence I felt Sony had a key role but now he became quite expendable so might as well get what you can for him. If Harris gets hurt I still feel pretty good about our backs. Even Bolden has looked pretty good running and catching in recent years.

I understand why the move has been made. For me Harris, Michel, Rhamondre are the same kind of player. Difficult to keep the 3 of them. I don’t really take JJ in the equation because I think he is purely White back up.

I think JJ is closer to Dion Lewis, who did quite a bit of running but contributed a lot to the passing game.
