Drew Bledsoe: "Give Cam Newton a Full Year"

And maybe playing Mahomes too early causes him to develop bad habits and happy feet.

Maybe if I had tried harder I could have finger banged Katy Taft in 8th grade.
I sense regret that you could have finger banged Mahomes and Katy Taft if you tried harder. Rookies.

In context to Newton mentioning 'deserve loyalty' in his last post, not surprised Bledsoe chimed in. Clearly still burns him that BB chose Brady over him when he came back from injury.

Exactly

Me neither.

Drew believes a franchise QB should never lose their job because of injury. It's a reasonable position to have.

But the problem for him was BB doesn't believe in entitlements and Brady out-played him.

All of that was in the OP, which was you, 23 minutes before you posted this. Come on man.
You mean you don't come here for insight like this ... Who doesn't want to hear from Drew Bledsoe, 3 decades after he played his best ball. Guy got beat out by someone an hour away from udfa and wants the Vet to get a chance. Great thread.

"I think they've got to let Cam go a little bit. And I would really like to see Cam get a full year," Bledsoe said. "Last year, the cupboard was kind of empty up there, and I think everybody recognizes that now. There wasn't a lot in terms of weapons for him. They went out and got some weapons, and I think it'd be great to see Cam get back out there and show why he was an NFL MVP."

Why do you assume I haven't finger banged Mahomes?

I was in Texas for a while and the south is full of freaky, repressed bottoms in dark rooms/adult theaters.

There is a greater than 0% chance I checked his oil or more.

It's reasonable but totally out of date. I remember that being a bigger principle back in the day but in today's NFL the bigger paycheck comes with the reality that pretty much everyone's career is a day to day thing.

I'm not saying that's how you feel it's just annoying that Bledsoe almost certainly feels this way only because of his circumstances.

I'm sure, by the tail end of his career, if he had been able to take the job from another starter due to injury and outplay that starter he'd be singing a different tune.

Adding in just for related context since topics are being combined

Cam: "I'm far from perfect but loyalty, I deserve it"

This is going to get real ugly this month as fans keep yelling for Mac and Cam reacts to this.

.

You have to lol when someone says but "Mahomes sat his first year" ... The guy has been rewriting the record book since day 1 but he wouldn't have been great year 1 after the entire organization said he picked the system as fast as anyone as a rookie. He really needed that year or who knows what would have happened to the poor kid.

I have a lot of respect for Drew ,the 2nd best qb we ever had , but i tend to disagree with him
I have the impression that he will be the exact same playier we saw last year
But if he will be the starter i hope to be wrong

Yeah agree. If Cam plays like he did last year then I'm all for going with Mac. I'm assuming Cam will play better and that last year had multiple reasons to explain. How many weeks would you wait to decide? I'd go at least 6 weeks. If Cam has 6 INTs by mid Oct time to pull the plug. On the flip side I think there's a good chance the Pats have a 4-2 record then while half the fanbase is weirdly pissed about Cam succeeding.

That’s been obvious for a long time. Drew is still salty about it and doesn’t try to hide his feelings either whenever it comes up.

"Drew Bledsoe... said that he'd like to see Newton play a full year in New England's offense after a challenging 2020 campaign for both the player and the team.

Give Flutie A Full Year

give him a full career, d*mmit

In the meantime, all that shiny new expensive weaponry will be devoting precious practice time learning Cam specific plays...
QB sneak left
QB sneak center
QB sneak right

Who isn't pumped and jacked for another season of Cam's ground game magic
There is no way I would be able to make it through 17 games of watching Cam run this offense. It took all I had to watch two pre-season series.

With good health & an easy first-half schedule, the Pats should be 6-2 after eight games... If they're 4-4 or worse, then somebody's losing his job somewhere...

Exactly. The roster is good. But we're in a weird place where the toxic media is riling up division and half the fanbase will be perversely against winning because Cam might be the QB.

Where do you get that from? Cam has done nothing at this point to show he has improved over last season. But for arguments sake if BB starts him and we are winning and he is not costing us games, the majority of the fans would be content. This is New England so there will always be the whining "gameday thread" crowd.

There may be some, like me who would still feel that if they are winning with Cam they would be winning with Mac. But I would not be rooting against the team. But watching Cam play QB is painful.

In the end I don't think it will matter. First I think Mac will clearly be the starter coming out of camp, even if BB doesn't come right out and announce it. I mean he takes two years to announce who the DC is, even though the entire world knows who it is. Second, Cam probably won't make it through 8 games, taking the pounding to his body that is inevitable, either in or out of the pocket.

But I don't see 50% of the fan base openly rooting against Cam, especially if he somehow manages to play well enough to look like a starting NFL QB and winning games.
