PatsFans.com - The Hub For New England Patriots Fans

21-Years Ago Today...

FWIW...NEM took the big adios over a decade ago. He was a staunch righty "get off my lawn" guy that posted everywhere...KFFL? there's NEM all day? The old Herald and Globe boards? all day, all night. CNNSI had a national board up for years back at the turn of the 21st century, NEM frequented the Pats tab there.Even the old Mikessports.com (Francesa's failed excursion into cyberspace) would sport an appearance from the cantankerous NEM. Way back when Ian was just bringing Patsfans online there was the Unofficial Patriots.com board where most of the old hall of fame guys like Box posted regularly.Don't ask me why I remember this but NEM was the only person ever banned from there. Once he fixated on a topic he'd go off for DAYS arguing. I don't think he ever agreed with anything BB did back then. An original "knower of things" and a true character.

(lots of dust on my brain, but ...) Wasn't the solution to all Patriots woes more slants?

(Ah, you Americans -- always have to make it a competition!)

Perhaps @jmt57 would do a look back on Patsfans' past. I still remember the NEM wars, "No way David Patten makes this team", Miguel being accused of being a secret Colts fan, but I'm sure there are a lot I've forgotten. But, if there's going to be a HOF, @jmt57 should be in it just for the history threads.

I only vaguely remember those Miguel accusations but I think they might be true. But that's OK- to each their own.

I'm proud and happy to be a part of this band of beasts.

Miguel a closet Clots fan?!? I don't remember a lot of things now, but that one's still a shocker...

Yes. He was explaining (patiently -- that's Miguel for you) why he didn't think the Colts were doomed to cap hell for the coming 5 years and he was accused of being a Colts fan. It takes a lot to rile Miguel but I think that that did it (he can speak for himself, of course).

I think everyone here is secretly a fan of another team. For example, I’ve been posting here for 15 years while, secretly, waiting to pounce and reveal myself as a Bucs fan. On PatriotsPlanet (I post on their political forum), I’m secretly a Jaguars fan. Miguel rooting for the Clots is an interesting one that I had forgotten about, though.

So when it comes to big moves in 2000, was it the arrival of bb and brady or Ian creating this forum that was more instrumental in the patriots success ? The debate will go on for ages , may need a subforum eventually for the Iananites to battle it out with the bb/bradyites

One of my favorite all-time threads:

Ian, I don’t want to complain, but how come PatsFans Dating doesn’t show up on my forum list? I keep reading posts about dating other posters on here, and I’m always up to improve my social life but darned if I can find that part of the site. What gives? Am I going to be forced into asking Fnord for pointers?

Last seen two days before Patriots won AFCCG

I recall something after the 2006 AFCCG. But I am glad to be wrong!

I joined this sight what seems like a lifetime ago. I know it says I joined in 2014, but I screwed up my password and Ian helped me get reinstated. I probably joined 10 years earlier in 2004, maybe earlier. I was still married, living near San Francisco, and probably was on this site way more than I should’ve been, but as my marriage crumbled, it certainly helped having that distraction of Patsfans on a daily basis.

Now back in NY since 2006, I’ve visited Patsfans daily, sometimes hourly (during the draft & free agency). Early on, it was an incredible source of info, you guys always amazed me with your knowledge of football. Thank you Ian, you’ve made all of us Patsfans lives better. You’ve literally touched thousands of lives.

Awesome, Ian.

I, of course, have all the obvious memories...Tuck, Vinatieri from 48 yards, Malcolm, 28---3...

But my strongest memories are around how you made this a safe haven as we grieved the magic helmet loss to the Giants in Arizona. You must have kept out a thousand trolls so we could all be together in those days.

Thank you.
