DRAFT Rhamondre Stevenson

I just wish I could have been there when his parents fought over what to name their son.
I wanted to be there when Divine Deablo's parents were trying to soften the blow for him. I am sure Father El and Mother DeBrida were racking their brains.

I loved this pick. Kid has everything, reminds me of Jeremy Hill exiting college. Can pass block, has deceptively good hands for a big guy, solid measurables all around.

I want to believe that Stevenson is the next coming of Blount with pass catching ability but Blount had tremendous heart that will be hard to match. Love the pick but will wait cautiously optimistically to see how it turns out.

Added running backs coach Ivan Fears: “Pound the freakin’ ball. That’s all. Just pound the ball.”

I had no idea who Stevenson was and commonly look at college highlights and come away unimpressed. Stevenson's tape is very impressive due to his vision, patient and power. Vision and patience in a college running back are rare in my opinion, and his anticipation due to his amazing vision is fun to watch. Obviously the weed (drug suspension) smoking is not a concern in the NFL or in MA. I think half this board smokes before logging in so Stevenson should be in good company around these parts. :D

::Cough cough:: yeah he's like....pretty good man.

Dave’s not here.

I just watched a highlight reel on Youtube, I don't know who you want to compare him to in various aspects of his game, I only know we are going to PWN the Kansas Jayhawks this season.

For fans of the Zepruder (sp?) film:

Some nice clips in this video. The one-handed catch is pretty nice.
The short bit about blocking should be music to all our ears. "Top back (with 1 other guy)" - per this youtuber - as far as blocking goes (at 240#) in this years class. He may see the field after all.

I'm really excited by this pick. I know bill has a record with redshirting backs but i would love to see him get some decent time this year although it's a typically crowded backfield so i think the chances are slim

I think it's a mixed history for sure.

Harris, White and Vereen saw very limited time as rookies.

Sony, Bolden, Law Firm, Gray, Ridley, Kool Aide, JR Redmond all saw significant time as rookies.

I think JJ Taylor would have played more had he not gotten hurt.

And the whole not being better than the players ahead of him thing. He is an interesting player and I hope he turns out to be special.

I'll take any win at this point of the offseason.....LFG!!!!

I realize RBs are somewhat devalued in the draft but idk how this dude lasted til the 4th when he has the skills to potentially be a 3-down back.

The draft is about saving money by finding players who will contribute in their rookie contracts and save money compared to free agency (rent control Pioli calls it). Running backs are available on the open market for cheap. So, a RB in the first three rounds doesn't save much in his rookie contract. A team saves a lot more if the hit is on a defensive players in the first three rounds, especially DT's and EDGE rushers. For me, it therefore makes sense that Stevenson was drafted in the fourth, and that we took defensive front seven players in the 2nd and 3rd.

Stevenson might've been available at 177 too...

#120 should've been used on either:
The best remaining OT, Dan Moore;
One of the two best available outside CBs, Robert Rochell & Cam Bynum, as Gilmore & JCJack insurance;
Or - and my preference - the best available WR, Tylan Wallace.

We needed young talent at those 3 positions - and still do, really - more than we needed it at Stevenson's position...
