Don’t think it’s possible to hate a draft pick more than the 2021 Tampa Bay Bucs burning a second rounder on Kyle Trask. I don’t know much about Task but hate the idea of drafting a potential backup QB here. They’re always an injury away from a crisis at every position...so any idea that a potential impact player has less value to this team is a foolish one.

What an absolutely brutal pick. I've had the feeling they were going to take Trask for a month or two now, but was still holding out hope that they wouldn't.

Ehh.... Trask has a fair amount in common with Jones, and that goes beyond the large number of people who don't like them as draft selections. Both players will need to build up their arm strength to make the NFL deep out, both players need to improve throwing on the move, and both players will likely need to start out being game manager types and hope that they can develop from there.

Beyond that, while my personal preference for either the Patriots or Bucs in a lower round QB scenario was to gamble on Mills rather than Trask, I don't really see anything to get worked up over. These later QBs (Mills/Trask/Mond) are flier QBs. If Trask busts as a bottom of the second round QB choice for a team with the benefit of not really having any major holes in its starting group, he's the first mistake the Bucs have made in the offseason. And, given all the moves the team has had to make, that makes for a hell of a winning percentage.

I thought it was a solid pick. This draft is a luxury for the Bucs given how deep they are at every position. They need a young Qb for Brady to groom. They literally have nothing at the position and Brady will be 44.

I wanted the Pats to take Trask if they didn't draft a Qb at 15 so this seems like a good move to me timing wise.

Aaron Rodgers is a crybaby and weeping is what crybabies do.
The thing with Rodgers is what did he expect them to do when he tanked the season to get Mccarthy fired and then openly moaned about the hire of LaFleur? The smartest thing the Packers did was draft Love. They need to cut bait with Rodgers now and get the haul he will command after being league MVP. This really could not worked out better for them.

I don’t get the hate for the Trask pick at all. The Bucs needed to take a QB in this draft. It might have been their biggest need going into the draft. I don’t know if Trask or Mills is the better choice, but the second round was the right spot.

All due respect because I value your opinion, I flat out disagree with this statement, for the Bucs or any team. What seems like a luxury right now will prove to be a necessity down the road. I’ve seen that exact thing written about stacked teams so many times, and then a year or two later that team is desperately wishing they had more depth.

The Bucs are picking 32nd this year and probably end of first round going forward with Brady. If anything, they should be the last team burning picks since they have the least draft capital in the NFL. The team still has plenty of areas that could be upgraded right now.

Their special teams coverage was terrible last year and nearly cost them the Saints playoff game.

Their secondary is still not great, despite the insanely awesome defensive performance at the end of the year, though the front 7 was the biggest factor.

They are pretty screwed if David or White gets hurt.

Likewise, the offensive line could always use more insurance.

Teams can always use upgrades at specialty positions like kick returner, punt returner, gunner, etc. IMO, that would be the type of luxury pick that would make sense.

How are they going to fit all these WRs on the roster? It's a nice issue to have, but it is an issue, as we saw a season or two here. Darden as an ST only guy?

For me it’s partly because I’m being selfish and don’t care what happens to the Buccaneers once Brady is gone. So I’m just wanting them to draft players who can contribute these next two seasons.

Sure. I get what you are saying and I am certainly not advocating throwing away picks by any means but QB was by far their biggest need IMO and a second round pick at that position seems spot on to me. Brady will be 44 and his contract expires when he is 45 so only 2 more years. You want the QB in there now to learn from Brady as well.

BTW, as an aside since you mentioned STs. I believe the Bucs had the worst STs coverage of any team and their punter was pretty lousy too on top and yet they won the SB. It really flies in the face of BB spending so many roster spots on STs guys. I always hated that strategy by him.

Is Jaelon Darden a good special teams player? Would be nice if he can contribute there. The Buccaneers special teams was terrible last year.
Gotta figure he's being looked at to take over some return duties

I‘m the same about the Bucs after Brady. But they resigned everybody. Having a back up QB on a rookie contract frees up money for other positions, especially when you starting QB is making in the 25 million range.

Completely agree. Gainesville is an easy 2 hour drive from Tampa. You've got to figure they've had tons of opportunities to watch Trask and moniter his progress over the last 2 years (Covid or not)

Bucs seem to carry more receivers on the roster than average (or at least more than the Pats). Last year Bucs had Justin Watson and Jaydon Mickens (kick returns) on the roster. Mickens got into legal trouble a month ago, so Darden could be part of the plan there.
