If they take Mac, then Grop's chances of being ridden-of by the trade deadline just increased significantly...
that 25 mil contract would have to be worked on, Capt...they ain't dumping 25 mil AND getting a 2nd..that's batshyt nuts. Pay him 25 mil and give a 7th if I'm BB.

The problem is that Jimmy's 2021 compensation will be guaranteed by then. There is no way Jimmy should accept a trade.

If I'm Jimmy, I want my money.
That's reasonable and one option. I'd go a different route, personally.

I want years, a starting job, more guaranteed money, and my legacy. If he gets benched for a rookie, he could be seen in Trubisky land. he can determine where to go now, so find the best fit, work a deal to add a year or two and even if it's a little less/year, get some guarantees.

He's already made 75million, so he ain't hurting either way. For me, it would be about longevity and a chance to salvage the career.

Of course he should if he gets traded to a team he would be the #1 QB on.
Why wouldn’t he? His current contract is much higher than what he would get as a FA

If we trade for Jimmy G should we still draft a QB?
We’d better. Jimmy is not a long term answer. He would be a great transition to our first round drafted QB though.

And how do get to the point of thinking that refusing to settle for crap cash is a 1:1 equation with giving up longevity and a chance to continue (no need for career salvage at the point, obviously) as a starter?

Multiple teams are currently openly looking for a QB right now, for this year, even before any offseason injuries have happened, and assuming that the top 3 picks are QBs go as expected. So JAG has no need to just take what's offered, as if he's a beggar asking for a handout.

Absolutely...Agreeing to a re-worked contract Must be included in any trade negotiations with SF...

I believe it was JimNance in another thread who wrote that a best-case scenario for us is one of the QBs slides to #15; and Grop (with a re-worked contract) is traded for a 2022 2nd-rounder...That leaves Cam as the ready backup if/when Grop is hurt again; and the rookie gets to sit for the entire year to learn his craft...

I didn't say "crap cash," and I don't think he'd have to do crap cash. It was widely reported that the Pats wanted him, for example, and they knew the cost. Right now, he's set to earn about 49m in salary (not guaranteed) over the next couple of years.

I'd leap at 3/60 or 4/80 with 30+ guaranteed. Something like that - less/year for the ability to be a team's SET #1 for a long enough time that a high-ankle sprain wouldn't be the end. Also, I'd want to extend that no-trade clause.

Heck, I might even just agree to a re-structure to add guaranteed money for next year. But I'd want to do it now. There's a very real possibility that Garoppolo loses his job in training camp - if the 49ers new kid shows he can play, are they really paying 25m for someone to hold a clipboard? I might be wrong here, but from what I've been able to find, Garoppolo's salary doesn't become guaranteed until September. Similarly, if he gets hurt in pre-season, it could be the end of his career.

If he gets cut in August, he's kind of screwed. At that point, he'd have ZERO leverage with any team that wants him and would be looking at a contract more like Newton's than his current bonanza.

There is no way that SF pulled off this trade without knowing who they were going to pick at #3. It would have never gotten past ownership if Shanahan and Lynch went to them with "we are going to trade three first round picks to get to #3 and then we will see what we do there".

The rest of this is smoke and trying to negotiate a Jimmy trade.

Nobody really knows who the Jets will pick.

It's out of control. We can't draft a QB from OSU. We can't draft a WR bc no matter who we take McDaniels will sprinkle "su ck" dust on him.
Nice. And in truth it really doesn’t matter what Belichick does in this draft because 30% of poster’s here will sh.t on him no matter what.

That is true for every draft.

Many items were broken when Bill drafted Seymour instead of their favorite.
