Pats feel good about Stidham's offseason so far

Sounds about right. That's about his skill level and the level of where his career is headed right now.

You understand that he never got to practice, and then came in with the team down, and to of those interceptions were easy catches that bounced off hands. including one of the pick six that endleman blew.

I don't understand the rush to say Stidham is a bust.

Since everyone is a draft expert this time of year, don't you think we should consider that he was a late 4th round pick?

It seems everyone let themselves buy into the hype last off-season that he was the next Tom Freaking Brady.

Now they feel butthurt that he wasn't/isn't, and have to take every chance they can get to slag the guy, even though the hype didn't come from him.

Without Brady the Pats are now just another team in this league. Many teams already understand that finding your franchise QB is a very hard thing to do. Just because a guy is on the roster doesn't mean he is a franchise QB in waiting. There's only one Tom Brady and there will only ever be one. It's not a logical conclusion to connect Pick #199 in the 2000 draft becoming GOAT with 4th rounder Stidham being some future superstar that we're inexplicably keeping on the bench. Yes I was hoping he would be good and be THE guy, turns out he isn't, so it's time to move on to the next guy. Hopefully a week from now we know who he is.

I'm not sure 'a lot of us for some reason have demanded Stid be named our starter' this off-season. Last off-season I think a lot of people did. TB12 was gone, people got way ahead of themselves projecting Stid as a starter. IMO a lot of it was media driven. They've got airwaves to fill and bills to pay. There was a huge void with TB12 moving on, something had to fill it, thus we got a lot of hype stuff around Stid.

I guess we'll find out a lot next week, and a lot when we have the opening day roster. If he's still on the roster on opening day they feel he has at least backup level potential. If not, they should stop wasting their coaching bandwidth on someone they don't think can even be a backup going into his third season, cut him, and take one or more QB prospects in the draft. I suspect they think he can be a backup level QB talent, and go into the season with Cam, Stid, and a QB prospect taken in the 2nd round or later. I suspect they feel the cost to move up is too high and they get better 'bang for the buck' with BPA or a trade down.

I have no idea if he’s any good or not, I can only go on the fact that Belichick clearly didn’t have any faith in him last season. However I do get a kick out of reading the posts from those pretending to know what he’s showing in practice and training. They just make sh.t up and pretend it’s fact.

In case this is in reference to my post earlier, I assure you I'm not pretending to be in the know nor am I making anything up. It's pretty well documented that Stidham left camp for a few days to attend a wedding in Texas. A cursory google search will provide the information you seek. And I believe it was Zolak, amongst others, who flat out said the coaching staff were super disappointed at how he immediately conceded the starting role as soon as Cam rocked up and showed no fight or drive whatsoever. I believe the quote was something like "He's acting like a fan who's getting to hang out with the team".

It's the only way another team could take on that cap hit this year. Why wouldn't a QB-needy team do it if they thought Garoppolo was the guy (Carolina just locked in Sam Darnold for $18million next year, fully guaranteed, right?)?

Not even getting into playoff, pro bowl and super bowl money there is no way Cam returned to be kicked to the curb.

You don't really get it. SF does not want to trade him. That is why they put a price of a first rounder on him. They are not going to miraculously restructure and trade Jimmy for a 2nd or 3rd round pic that the Pats may be willing to pay. What NFL teams have restructured players prior to trades to help out other teams with the salary cap? That would create a future cap hit for the team that is trading. I don't know of any. Perhaps there are. Can you cite one? The player is traded and then the restructure takes place. In order to do that, the recipient has to have the full salary space under the cap.
