MLB moving All-star game and draft out of Atlanta

They’ve moved the location to Denver. Colorado requires a valid I.D. to vote. Many of their voting laws are much more restrictive than what Kemp just signed into law. They have two fewer early voting days than Georgia. Denver is also eons whiter than Atlanta, which has a population that is 51% African-American. Denver’s African-American population hovers around 9%. In addition, a whopping 30% of businesses in Atlanta are black-owned. The MLB pulling out of there over an assumption that black people are either too dumb or incapable of getting an I.D. to vote did more damage to those businesses than the law Kemp signed. LMFAOOOO. What a catastrophic failure.

Hey MLB, good luck retaining the ADHD generation while successfully alienating a massive portion of the generation of people that actually invests their money and time into your sport. Genius move to get involved in politics when your ratings and viewership were already on a steep decline. What a master stroke of brilliance.

virtue signaling

[ vur-choo sig-nl-ing ]SHOW IPA

noun Sometimes Disparaging.

the sharing of one's point of view on a social or political issue, often on social media, in order to garner praise or acknowledgment of one’s righteousness from others who share that point of view, or to passively rebuke those who do not: The virtue signaling of solidarity with the victims can be a comforting affirmation of community.Their outraged virtue signaling comes across as contrived.

99.3% of Colorado voters used mail-in ballots for their primary last year.....well, that ends your point rather bluntly

The have fewer voting days because they don't need them.

Colorado has one dropbox for every 9,400 voters.....once again........

Colorado does require some form of ID when voters register for the first time and whenever they vote in person. But the state accepts 16 different forms of identification. The options include common identification cards like a driver's license, U.S. passport or government employee ID — but Colorado also accepts Medicare and Medicaid cards, college IDs, utility bills, bank statements and paychecks.

Kemp and others also have said that Colorado requires photo identification to vote, which is false.

Also, food and water in lines is not an issue because there are no lines

I recommend you doing some additional research next time....and please stop calling things 'virtue signalling' it has little literal meaning

They said the same thing about the NBA ..... until the NBA went global.....of course you have those people who claim they will never watch the NBA but that NCAA BB is good, we KNOW what they're really about. baseball will go the same way.

But hey.......there's always the golf channel

The smartest thing any organization could be doing is looking beyond the White Anglo Saxon Protestant for their revenue growth

The Georgia law allows anyone to mail in their ballots...

The Georgia law allows anyone to mail in their ballots...
Georgia elections officials can only mail out absentee applications to voters who individually request it, shutting down one approach to encouraging mail balloting. And voters will have a shorter window to ask for those ballots. (Georgia sent out absentee applications to millions of voters in the 2020 primary, even if they hadn't requested it, to encourage absentee voting during the pandemic.)

The Georgia law also bans mobile voting centers, and it strictly limits the use of dropboxes.

So? Anyone can request a mail in ballot if they want. Does nothing to suppress the black vote unless in your world blacks have less access to cars and can't get to the voting booth...

of course that's what you would say....point being Kontra tried to make the point that CO laws are stricter......far from it.......

Yup. In a pandemic. I’m not sure how that ends my point rather bluntly since, even after they turn in a mail-in ballot without providing identification, the state still needs to verify their identity after the fact.

The have fewer voting days because they don't need them.

Neither do Georgians if they request an absentee ballot. And, in Georgia, they don’t have to provide an excuse for doing so.

Colorado has one dropbox for every 9,400 voters.....once again........

Drop boxes didn’t actually exist in Georgia prior to the 2020 election. They were put into place because of Covid. SB 202 actually made them a permanent fixture.

Not really since 8 of their identification methods are photo I.D.s.

I’ve actually read through the bulk of the bill and have gone to fact check websites. Even those I disagree with. There isn’t anything in this bill that is even remotely unreasonable, let alone proof of voter suppression along racial lines. You still have not explained to me how there is proof of anything remotely resembling proof of it. You also have not explained how, if the new law hurts one party, it doesn’t hurt another. They both vote the same way. If anything, the railing against this bill, based on the assumption that black people are unable to obtain valid photo IDs or social security cards/numbers is, in and of itself, a racist assumption.

and please stop calling things 'virtue signalling' it has little literal meaning

Sure it does. It’s literally what the MLB just did. They accomplished little outside of moving a $100M event from a majority black city, with black-owned businesses, to a majority white city. They hurt the population they were supposedly standing up for far, far more than this bill ever could.

They said the same thing about the NBA ..... until the NBA went global.....of course you have those people who claim they will never watch the NBA but that NCAA BB is good, we KNOW what they're really about. baseball will go the same way.

A lot of good that global fan base did. The 2020 Finals dropped to a historic low in viewership.

But hey.......there's always the golf channel

The smartest thing any business should be doing is not getting involved in political hot topics. You ultimately want to generate revenue from every race, religion, area, and person that you possibly can. When you do so, you alienate segments of your consumer base. It’s stupid business. The MLB especially should not be doing that. They’re a boring sport with declining attendance and viewership already trying to remain relevant in an era where the younger audience needs constant action and has a two second attention span.

Anyway, it’s clear that I’m not going to be able to change your mind that these laws were far from unreasonable and I’d rather focus my posting on football as the draft is approaching. I’ll go ahead and give you the last word. As this sub-forum isn’t particularly active, it’ll be interesting to come back to this after mid-term elections when we have the raw data, especially along racial lines, available to us in Georgia.

Turley is a f*cking idiot
Actually, it’s odd because he has supported some valid legislation in the past. I think the distinction is that he was close to several members of the Trump Administration. Someone should ask Turley if he supports HR 1 and 4, the federal bills designed to help eliminate voter suppression.

Well, I agree there is no merit to the Dominion allegations and that he’s become an ultra-loyalist Republican. He’s not espousing that because he’s an idiot but because the demographics don’t favor Republicans and they think espousing such theories allows them to gain or retain power.
