Okay, right up front: I've never been a big fan of Cam Newton's game. Probably because I was watching guys playing with rocks long before football was ever invented, I prefer the pocket passer. Always have.

That said, the hyperbolic viciousness against Cam Newton here isn't just absurd, it's cancerous, and the kind that numbs your mind. Yes, UGLY throws probably count a lot more in the memory section of your brain, but, well, let's let Hurley take it from here.

Oh yippie, Another beat a dead horse thread. How exciting.

A lot of the Newton hate was over inflated. His cast of skill players was Really bad last year. Worse than Brady's cast in 2019, which was arguably the worst in the NFL that year. It may have been the worst cast of skill players seen on a football feild in recent memory.

Even Brady at best goes 20TDs/10Ints with it. No one in the NFL would look good with that group last year.

Did Newton help himself with his throwing ability? No. But it wasn't like he was missing tons of wide open targets.

It is fairly easy to see if you are getting into a good faith discussion with people about Cam. Anyone who claims he was the worst QB in the league last year or writes something about historically bad numbers is either a troll or just someone with an agenda. It is also very telling how most of them are not acknowledging or downplaying the fact that he was a legit weapon with his feet.

But then again those bozos also think they can evaluate a QB better than our coaching staff even though the only access they get to him through the entire season were 16 broadcasts with TV angles.

without going back to look at any games thats how I felt about him last year. Now, granted there was nothing to work with after Edelman went down and thankfully Meyers became a factor later on in the year. My memory is one of him missing 3 to 5 easy throws a game. I managed to watch a lot more of our games last year than most years. I'm not saying you're point of view is wrong its just me relaying what my impressions are.

Perhaps you are right. How many easy throws does an average NFL QB miss in a game? A good NFL QB? I'd like real data on that if we are going to make the comparison. Its too easy to have selective memory.

Here's proof that this guy can't play in the NFL:

I still think Cam sucked after covid. Before he wasn't too bad. I have no idea if it was covid, an injury, bad receivers or if he just plain sucks and the beginning of the year was an aberration. That all being said, I have no problem with bringing him into the preseason to compete with Stidham and whomever else for the starting roll. I hope they draft a qb early who can spend a year behind Cam and challenge him by the end of the season, but we will have to wait and see on that.

I dont mind the lazy “evaluations“ or even the silly candy store QB shoppings - can be a good laugh and are easy to ignore - but the amount of hatred towards current starting QB of your team on a relatively grown ups fan board is just insane. And sad.

I wondered if anybody would post - let alone open a thread (like its normally done for others incl. Stid) - on Cam's work to make himself his best possible QB for the Patriots & Pats fans (and i dont even read much into this sorts of vids). Nope. I guess one's blind hatred (yep every hatred IS blind) is much more important than appreciating the effort & cheering for a player on your team to succeed.

So since this is the only thread trying to offer some support for Pats QB - ill post it here.

Nobody here knows the covid situation last year or the true injury situation. Therefore, one can only speculate.

Since he was signed, this should be a good sign to all interested.

A combination of better health, better weapons, and no covid distractions should improve matters.

People forget that we had KC limited to 6 points after 3 quarters. They scored 19 on offense.

We don't need 40 points per game..........we just need to score more than the opponent.

Hurley isnt defending that newton sucks, that’s indefensible. He is defending the argument that he is incapable of ever making a good throw.

Nobody hates the man. People properly evaluating his play hate the way he plays qb.

What I find odd is that fans here are jumping through hoops to defend an obviously flawed QB after being critical of the GOAT for a 12-4 season with the same offense and more injuries.

IOW, why should Cant Newton be immune to criticism when he gives us so much to criticize?

What agenda? I watched him suck. I was honest about what I saw. I backed it up with examples. What is my agenda other than wanting the team to have a competent qb and win.
Does belichick have an agenda for paying him backup money and stating he wasn’t finished pursuing QBs?

I never cared much for him, but I never hated him. I see him as a bullsh!tter that was never as good as he talked. He's proving that here.

The only thing I could criticize BB for is not having an adequate replacement for Brady which led to him scraping the bottom of the QB barrel. That leads me to believe that BB thought that TB was coming back.

Interesting breakdown of some plays from the Rams loss, highlighting what the offense did well and what they didn’t under Cam. His throwing mechanics are inconsistent and leads to missed or near missed opportunities with open receivers.

Whether it’s on him or the offense surrounding him, we can all agree he’ll have to do a lot better than 8 passing touchdowns on a season. The 12 rushing touchdowns are nice but no QB should have more rushing TDs than passing. Can’t rely too much on the legs or it becomes predictable and you get stuffed like in the Seattle game.

Nobody on the face of earth thinks Cam is incapable of making a good throw lol

Belichick has led this team to more success than any coach/gm has ever led any team to, and he is getting destroyed on this board yet the QB who showed a total lack of awareness, horrible accuracy, slow and poor decision making led the offense to pathetic results somehow is immune to criticism.
