Sam Darnold to Panthers

I agree. I like Darnold and he was gamer at USC. Jets worst nightmare is to trade him to the Pats and then he does well.
Nah Darnold sucks but not as bad as newton

You think the Jets would entertain a single thought of trading, what was supposed to be their franchise QB to BB and the Pats? Not a chance in hell they considered that for a single moment.
If you are dumping him because he sucks why not dump him on a rival?

He was really good at USC, but it's unlikely he flips a switch and gets good.

I highly doubt the Jets would’ve done the same trade with us and potentially have Darnold haunt them twice a year. Would have cost more. Instead they traded Darnold out of the conference.
They would more likely be thinking they gain from the opportunity to face him twice a year. They think he sucks, why not hurt your division rival?

He wasn’t that good at USC. He made plays because his receivers got open often and he threw to the first option, but when he had to read a defense he struggled badly.

Eh, I watched pretty much all his games and he was scrambling a lot and making plays out of nothing.

Mark Sanchez was the guy you just described.

No way they do that with BB here. Maybe someone else but not him. Yes, there is a chance that he comes here and sucks and they can point at BB and laugh. But there is an equal chance that BB gets him to perform like a competent/franchise QB and the risk of that embarrassment would far out way any potential satisfaction they would have seeing BB fail with him.

Same guy

Price for JimmyG JUST WENT DOWN A LOT. ALSO one of the top5 no-sure-thing QB's in the draft should be available in the draft compared to an elite defensive guy best in his position.

They're going to get nothing for him if the Pats take a QB in the 1st/2nd round and they are the best trade partner.

But then again, who knows if Bill even wants him anymore.

I don't think he was all that great at USC. He should not have left when he did. He had 26 TD's against 13 INT's his final season there. A 2:1 TD:INT ratio in college is not that great.

I agree he threw some bone headed INT's there but I liked him. They would've lost a lot of games without him.

Just one look...should have been all it took....proving the Jete are blind/idiotic/out of touch or a combination of all three

I just think he would have benefitted from another year in Southern California. I remember saying the exact same thing about Sanchez. Funny how they both went to the same team, one which is arguably the worst at QB development, and got thrown to the wolves.

Darnold to Carolina is the best result the Pats could've had. Carolina was the only sure bet to take a QB after #3, and now they're out. Detroit won't, and Denver is 50-50 but I think they give Lock more time. There are so many other great non-QB's in the top 15 that it'll be too hard for these teams to pick QB when they don't really need one.

This talk about trading for a qb that played 1 1/2 games in NE before he got hurt, then got traded to a team and then went 6, 3, 16 and 6 games over the next 4 years and giving up a pick for him is nuts. SF is going to cut him they are not going to waste 25mill of cap room, when they can use that to lock up actual guys who suit up.

If the Pats aren’t getting one of the top 5 QBs then they should punt the position in this draft and focus on the best prospects at other positions. Maybe use one of the late picks on a flier at QB (that Ian Book, Sam Ehlinger range) to see if he can at least compete for Stidham’s spot. I just wouldn’t be comfortable having the QB of the future label on anyone outside that top 5.
You have a very valid point about a QB outside the Top 5.

I'm waffling on reaching/rolling the dice for a Mills/Mond/Newman tier 2 - who should in theory have a much better chance of success than Book/Ehlinger - should that be the way the draft unfolds and/or trading up is not possible.

The Pats went 7-9 last year and have improved the roster in free agency. But another year of Cam will result in what, maybe 8-8, 9-7? Then what? The end result will be that in the 2022 draft the Patriots will be even further away from obtaining their long term solution at QB than they are now, due to being even further away from the number one draft pick - that's my concern. Who wants a period of several years of 7-9 to 9-7, before finally bottoming out and being able to draft a franchise QB?
