Path cleared for Jimmy's return? [SF trades for #3 pick]

Here is the decision.

Option 1. Trade #15, a 2022 1st rounder and maybe more picks to get to the top 5. Draft the future but Cam plays a big chunk of 2021 of not most of it until the kid is ready.

Option 2. Trade a 2021 2nd or 3rd rounder, acquire Jimmy who agrees to a restructure and becomes our starter Day 1 and keeps Cam on the sidelines. Keep 15 and keep 2022 rd1 pick and other picks.
Option 1 is the easy answer. Can can win 7 games on a crap roster he can win 8-9 on a good one assuming the kid takes awhile and you have time to develop a real future prospect. Jimmy is the least sure thing of all because we already know he can barely finish a season and we have no clue if he restructures and nobody knows what the Niner’s will demand in a trade. It’s a lot of ifs.

Hey... did everyone enjoy those monumental wins against the Jets and the Ravens in 2020? Those were some wins, eh? I have good news - you get to see more of Cam in 2021 as well. Either that, or a few games of Jimmy G before he goes on the shelf.

I mean he's completely within reason to, I'm not sure about the ins and outs but 49ers could get rid of him out of mutual agreement and then they use that pick to sign someone like minshew or mariota who would then potentially get to start for a year.
But he may has no leverage. What does he do if they laugh at his request? Which they will do unless they already plan to trade him.

That beats losing on purpose.

SF loved Harry pre-draft. Him & Deebo were WR1/2 on their board.

Bill may be infatuated with Jimmy but Kyle walked Jimmy down the alter. Held his hand the whole way. Caught him as he tripped over himself and Jimmy still F'd up the SB that was given to them.

I've loved Jimmy for years. QB2 for me coming out but I knew back then he needed a ton of help & even with a loaded roster I don't think he could get us farther then Cam. Plus Cam's deal. No way I'm overpaying for Jimmy.

If he's there for the taken, sure but a first round pick for Jimmy? This is Mac Jones all over again. These guys need so much in order for things to really work out and again as we seen with Jimmy. He couldn't capitalize when asked to make big time NFL passes. I'm not saying that he won't ever get it done but we know what type of player he is and its not a 1st round pick type or top 50 pick type imo.
We need to step back and take a deep reality check.

Right now all 5 QB's are likely to go in the 8 picks. My guess is that Miami moved back to 6 in order to sell it again to a panicked buyer looking to grab either lance or Jones and get value for their move, OR to grab Pitts or Chase both of whom are impact receivers. Either way, this only proves Flow wasn't sleeping when he watched Bill move up and down the draft. They are manipulating the draft like champs.

The fact of the matter is that at this point JG is no long the answer to anyone's QB question, not even ours. Just too many questions about just how good he is. Right now JG is just an over paid RECLAIMATION project. Someone you give a future 3rd or 4th for with the understanding they will be renegotiating that big contract.

At the time we did SF a favor trading him for "just a 2nd" 3 and a half years later. I'd like to think SF will do us the favor and trade him back for a mid round pick that could go up to a 2nd or 3rd based on playing time. Anything more would be ludicrous. I'm thinking we trade him for our lowest 2021 4th and a 2022 conditional pick that would run between a 6th a 3rd. That would be true value IMHO

Newton or Jimmy G.... both have huge drawbacks. Can't trust Cam to play like a starter. Can't trust Jimmy G to play. I'd rather have gone with neither.

But he may has no leverage. What does he do if they laugh at his request? Which they will do unless they already plan to trade him.
Depends on his competitive fire.

If he's desperate to have a legacy, it's a win win for everyone if they trade him:

Garoppolo wins by going back to NE.
NE wins by getting back the original heir.
San Fran wins by not having a disgruntled vet mentoring their huge investment.
Justin Fields (for example) wins by not having an awkward start to his career.
Minshew wins by getting a better (or guaranteed) chance to start than he would with T-Lawrence.

I guess Cam Newton loses in this scenario...

That beats losing on purpose.
No team does that. But they could have shed some of the veterans and played some of the young guys. But hey, whatever floats your boat, my man. I hope you look back on those wins fondly as “the worst quarterback in the league” is leading the team next year. Meanwhile, in the division, the Dolphins just committed a heist and have multiple first round picks over the next few seasons. I don’t know about you, but on my death bed, I will look back fondly upon 2020 while telling my Hospice nurse, “those wins against the Jets and the Ravens? You had to have been there. They were... spectacular.” Then I’ll quit breathing and die with a smile on my face knowing that I was alive to see them.

If you are Jimmy G I don't see how you don't at least request a trade. The team is telling you they don't want you and you are a year rental. Here, train your replacement.

Imagine Jimmy G misses any one game and the new kid comes in and looks good. He will never see the field again.

Now the niners may not trade him and just release him next year. But they likely can get something for him now. I'm sure Bill is telling Jimmy "with this team we can win with you"

Things just get curiouser and curiouser. I am still very uneasy having JG as our QB1.

So it looks like:

Likely to take QB

Jags at 1
Jets at 2
49ers at 3
Panthers at 8

May take QB

Falcons at 4
Broncos at 9

Teams that may try to jump ahead of us

Washington at 19
Bears at 20

If we want Fields or Lance (whichever one 49ers don’t take) we would have to target the Bengals at 5 depending what the Falcons do. That would be multiple 1sts to jump that high. If we want Mac Jones we may need to jump up inside top 10 to ensure other teams can’t jump ahead of us.

CBS just mocked Denver trading up to 4 to take Lance. Falcons fall back to 9 and then trade the 9th to the Pats for our 1st and 2nd and we take Mac Jones at 9.

So to get one of the top 5 we likely need to get inside the top 10. Or we go after Jimmy G and save our top picks.

Ok lets tick them off one by one.

Jags - no they will have Lawrence

Colts - no - They have already made their bed with Wentz

Bronco's - No they have lock. More of a possibility than the other 2, but give the price and the injury history....NO

Jets - No , they are either staying with Darnold or going with Wilson, most likely the latter

Chargers, No the got their QB of the future last season

Lions - No they got Goff. They don't need 2 retreads
There's gonna be next to no market for him, watch, for the reasons you point out. Bill's gonna get him for a 4th or some crap like that.

This team is likely looking at rolling with cam newton unless jimmy plays hardball and demands a trade.

As well you should be. He’s probably a better option than Cam in the handful of games you’ll get out of him before he absorbs a truck stick and is gone for the season. But that’s not really saying much. I’d just rather roll with a Mills or Kellen Mond and use the first round pick on a receiver or Surtain. Hell, if Smith is there at 15, I’d be all over him.

#15, a 3rd and 1st in 2022 and 2023
That's the way it could but that's too much IMHO. Jimmy might be the answer, he looks good when he plays but there no denying he appears to be injury prone. I would think 2nd and a 3rd this year and possibly next, would be more than enough. Of course, if it turns into a bidding war, the ante may go up. SF wants to get rid of his salary.

Wait. Jimmy surely can wish he gets traded. But he has no leverage to demand a trade. If they don’t want to trade him what is he going to do?

Jesus

No but they’re QB got the ever loving hell beat out of him last year and they probably wouldn’t mind get Sewell who is like the best overall talent in the draft
Agree, they pick him with #5 after QBs go 1-4.
