Player Signing Cam newton resigned 1 year deal

Can’t wait to watch him short arm a throw 10-yards down the field to our newly signed wideouts...

True, need more posts like these. Nothing more productive than complaining about complaining.
I did learn a new word...."malding".........fresh from the urban dictionary.

malding
when someone is both mad and balding.

My bad, read it wrong, I think 8M is the floor. Little pricey, but not awful

That looks like 8 guaranteed. Which is horrible.

8M is not the floor. Unless Reiss made a mistake he specifically said honors (MVP, SB MVP, OPOY ect.) and playoffs make up 6m of his incentives.

There will be more incentives e.g. roster bonuses, playtime, yardage, TDs (both NLTBE to push them into '22) all with escalators inside those 8M.

8 million for Cam Newton, awful deal.

It depends on how much actual guaranteed money there is.. they could have given him a $1M signing bonus$5M in salary and $2M roster bonus if he makes the roster out of camp...

Won't know for sure until the details are posted.. Probably by Monday.

Hard to tell what would scare off potential free agent WR aquisitions, having Cam nor not having a QB at all...

How about we wait at the very least until the second week of camp before we start melting down.

By then we will have a much clearer picture of the top portion of the roster, the draft, more data points about how Cam looked in OTAs (if there are any) and through the first couple camp sessions and can actually talk about reality instead of fearing our own imagination. Who knows.. maybe by then Cam is not even on the roster anymore.

Hell, I would already be amazed if we could hold it together until after the draft.
I saw a full season of cam suckage.

And I see a team that evidently doesn’t care about putting the worst QB in the nfl on the field so they brought him back.

Let’s also recognize that newton has loudly proclaimed he deserved to be a starter so the fact that he signed here before even hitting free agency and talking to any other trans means he expects to be the starter and has probably been given assurances.

Then is no reason to wait until the season is buried and the tombstone up to declare it dead.

Because Cam signed a low value one year deal and not a market rate longer deal for a starting QB.
The decision here was to keep a flawed Cam, versus signing a flawed Jamis or a flawed Andy Dalton or a flawed Fitzpatrick or a flawed Trubisky or trading for a flawed Mariota or a flawed Jimmy G.

The unflawed QBs like Watson and Wilson are not obtainable.

So you didn't like the Bethel signing or the Trent Brown trade? Cam is not counting a lot against the Cap, free agency hasn't begun yet, can we at least see who is our quarter backs are when the season starts? I don't mean to pick on you, but whenever I read your posts, it's always negative, negative, negative......stop it, please!!!
Cam Newton adds nothing to this team. Except Belichick thinks he does.
It is silly to pretend he signed him so he could cut him and waste 5 million off the cap.
Newton has publicly stated he should be a starter. Bill Belichick signed him before he could speak to any other teams.
Obviously Belichick made assurances Newton would be the starter or newton would have tested free agency.

One conclusion. Belichick has lost his mind.

The only assurances anyone gets when he signs with the Pats is the amount of guaranteed money.

Again I get that you clearly can't stand the idea but how about we judge all of this once we have a better grasp of the big roster picture (including QBs) ? You can still meltdown over it in May if it still looks bleak to you.

Sorry I dont have much positive to say about a franchise that pushed out the greatest athlete in North American sports history, who is still top 2-3 at his position and as motivated as ever, and replaced him with the worst QB in the league. It's the most important position in sports, we aren't talking about a guard or safety.

And for the record, I loved the Trent Brown trade. Posted as much in the thread on this board.

While this thread is about Cam, I'm pretty sure a signing of Mariota would have garnered similar outcries of agony.

And Jimmy? "They're paying $25 million for 3 games!!!!!!!"

And Winston: "30 picks! 30!!!!!"

I mean, it's really still all about Brady. That wound is deep - maybe mortal for some folks.

Yeah that's what I really want to know. Bottom line is I want to know how it affects their ability (capwise) to retain players or bring in outside talent.

Some positives for you from my boy Dougie....

Which is exactly what he signed last year (albeit under different circumstances, I'll give you that). I'm preparing myself for 16 games of Cam if healthy. Nothing that has transpired with this team over the last year makes me expect otherwise.

Cam was a last minute signing last year most likely after they determined that Stidham wasn't good enough to start. He wasn't signed early in free agency. Newton seemed to be a last minute ditch effort signing.

Every reporter connected to the Patriots say that they hear that this is probably not the last significant move the Pats are making at QB. It is just more insurance that they have someone to start if everything else blows up.

I'd assume this means they are totally out on Mariota. Which is fine, he's only thrown more than 13 touchdowns twice lol.

That’s what we were told last year yet the kept trotting that failure out there.

If he wasn’t given assurances after saying he wants to start why would he sign before checking with a single other team?

It doesn’t matter what happens later, Belichick has signed a crud QB who says he expects to start. He wouldn’t have signed before speaking to any other without believing that’s the plan.

if Belichick comes to his senses, then he just pissed away money that could be used to put a better team around a legitimate QB.

The decision stinks out loud. Waiting until
May to acknowledge that makes no sense.

At least after he came back from COVID, Cam had similar problems that Bledsoe had in this system. It wasn't the intermediate to deep passes he had problems with, it was short passes especially the timing ones.
