Player Signing Cam newton resigned 1 year deal

Incentive-laden deal and clearly the team still has the flexibility to add a piece via the draft. Not to mention, potentially scooping up Garappolo via trade or signing down the line (should he be cut).

Totally fine the decision. I don't want Cam the QB from 2020 quarterbacking the team in 2021, but, 1.) Cam may not be the starting QB, or, 2.) if Cam is the starting QB, he may be much better than he was last season for a variety of reasons.

This move gives them a known commodity/body at QB but does not mean Cam will necessarily be the starter at all, or if he is the starter, he may be much better than he was last season.

No reason to lose our minds. FA has yet to begin and I expect Belichick is going to pursue a few targets to improve the defense, specifically the front-7, which was just as much of an issue as the offense was last season - that's what I'm excited about - the defense.

If we add a stud TE and/or some capable WRs, great, but that's the icing. The CAKE will be a big, physical, athletic, and talented defensive front-7 to pair with the already good secondary. That's what I'm optimistic Belichick will build and am most looking forward to.

Why do we need to sign a guy for peanuts? I just don't understand why we sign a guy who clearly can't play anymore just because he is cheap. There really is no other QB in the league that played last year that I would say Cam is better than.

Who do they get then? What QB is a free agent you want to sign for a long term deal? I don't see any other than if you think Trubisky is another Tannehill where a change of scenery can turn around his career?

And if you say trade for someone, you cannot guarantee that the team that owns that QB's rights will trade him to you and all the QBs bandied about being traded have no trade clauses and may not waive them for you. Then you are stuck with trying to get an insurance policy worse than Newton.

You guys confuse the dread of having an offense with no WR or TE with Cam ..

Guys, Cam wasn't the reason the offense was horrible .. UDFA WR's and no TE's was
Oh really? Did his WRs and TEs tell him to short hop the ball when they were in the huddle? Did they tell a 6'5" guy to let his passes get tipped at the LOS?

Patriots players are thrilled he's coming back & gets a fair chance . but thats beside the point bc this board hates the idea . and this decision obviously affects pats fans more than pats players..

His performance will affect the players

Would you expect them to say anything otherwise?

Actually, it was both.

Cam had AWFUL throws all year long. He certainly was part of the problem.

However, as you said, the lack of weapons was ALSO a problem. Good thing we have plenty of cap space and draft capital to attempt to fix that part of the problem.
Because if there's one thing BB is known for, its finding WRs via the draft.

Maybe I came off wrong. Not saying Cam's personality will trump a better QB's play, but these are only pieces of the greater picture. I am simply saying many NFL players like Cam and probably have a better opinion of him than we do, and that having him is better than not and trying to sign guys with Stidham at the top of the depth chart.
I think TBD is more attractive than suck

Tipped? He threw them right directly at the rushers face mask.

Everyone now wants to give cam the benefit of the doubt cause Bill resigned him. Nobody here really wanted him back lol, one of the worst starting qbs I’ve seen in a long time.

if he comes back and shines or even improves a bit I’ll eat my words and admit I was wrong.
He's a place holder QB on a rebuilding team, no more, no less.

He may be cut before Game 1, so I would not lose sleep over the signing.

A pretty good take on it all.

All kinds of power in negotiations, lol.

BB during all future QB trade negotiations: "you trying to pull the wool over my eyes with this 3rd round pick ********? I'll walk right out that ****ing door. I already got 7, maybe 9 TD passes locked up for next year. A 4th? Yeah, that's what I thought."

You guys are going to eat so much crow. Cam and NE will be SB56 champions. He signs on a day with '56' numerology. (3+12+20+21 = 56)

SB56 champs incoming.

Now watch NE sign Curtis Samuel.
Like we did last year as we suffered through the worst QB in the nfl?

I just want someone who can throw a football. I don't care if they will cost $10 mill instead of whatever the hell they are paying Cam. Bring in Tyrod Taylor, Fitz, Jameis, Jacoby. Any of those guys aren't going to cost a fortune and would be a perfect bridge/backup to a younger guy. Those guys aren't superstars but they can at least throw a football.

It will weaken him in negotiations.
They can just show him
Clips of newton in 2020 and laugh at him and say “fine do this again”

We'll definitely be eating crow when your personal jesus spits out a 10 touchdown/15 interception season and we win 8 games.

Anyone but Cam is a good start.
