Player Signing Trent Brown trade to Pats

I think he’s young enough and good enough to get teams to consider extreme backloading to make it work. A five year contract with a $1M salary and $15M signing bonus pays him $16M this year with a $4M cap hit, for example.
Interesting Sciz, with those numbers that you mention, I'd just as soon keep him here and have the best o-line in the league.

It's a classic BB trade. Rather than pay Thuney a top of the market deal, he gets someone who is a cheaper alternative to keep a solid line going forward and have that extra money to spend elsewhere, maybe use it to keep andrews.

As good as Thuney is, I feel some team is going to regret paying him all that money just like solder, or trent brown himself.
Bill's thought process: Thuney out/ Brown in...... I just created $ 4 mill in cap savings and maintained the integrity of the O line.

(Now let's go shop for some special teamers)

How many teams can afford to pay him and who will? There aren't that many teams that have the cap room to pay a guard. Maybe Jets/Jags, I don't know if his market is going to be as plentiful as posters think.

Its not what posters think, 14-15M are projections from people doing this for $ (doesn't mean they will be right). #1 G available, easy to make projection.. Scherff got tagged at 18M.

Plenty of teams will be interested & can afford him. The Q is how many put $ on the table and he only needs 2.

If someone sees him & needs tackle it could go even higher..

I wonder if they trade Wynn. His 5th year option is $10 mill and for the amount of time he spends on the injury list I wouldn't be shocked.

No chance Wynn is worth 10M based on his career so far. He's actually highly skilled but playing only 16 of 48 games is terrible. I would half expect him to be traded in the next 6 months if we get someone good in return. Can't keep a guy for 10M/yr who only plays 30% of the games.

Hopefully he's back with us and we don't have to get in a bidding war with another team..I know, probably wishful thinking but I can always hope!!

I guess I wouldn't be shocked, but I'm not sure it's the right move. When healthy he's been very good, and it would leave another hole on the OL that needs to be filled this year (likely at more than Wynn is making for 2021). And we still haven't signed Andrews, so we've now invested extra money in Brown, Andrews (assuming he makes more), and a replacement for Wynn, just to keep the OL talent stable. I'd rather keep Wynn, invest in other areas of the team, and if he works out $10m for 1 year is very palatable for a good LT.

Never meant to take away your hope
Lol Long Distance, no worries, I know in the end you're like me and just want to see the Patriots put a competitive team on the field and win next year.

With Scherff getting tagged, Thuney is the top rated Guard left. He's gone.

Andrews on the other hand can still be kept since Corey Linsley wasn't tagged by GB. Unless we want to pay for Linsley, a much better Center, we should make Andrews an offer that's not insulting (say $6M aas) since he's still young.

I thought G was the spot he'd excel at the most coming out and I was wrong. In fairness to me I spend about 90 seconds thinking about that stuff. I'm not a coach and will leave it up to them.

The point is there's absolutely no reason, zero. To want to move him. None. Besides he's hurt and played guard in college. The guy has been a very good tackle. Both in pass pro and the run game. I don't think he would be a better player at guard and have yet to to hear any valid reasons why. Which is important considering its a big change at this level. In fact I feel I could argue it cancels out his biggest strengths. Also I want my most athletic guys at tackle 99% of the time.
Surely you're not suggesting that Onwenu be moved to LG, are you?

He's already played more LG for the Patriots than Wynn has.
Onwenu played left guard very well against the Raiders. While rewatching some games, I'd say Owenu played lg better than Wynn did.

Wynn hasn't played LG here, so...

But he did play LG (as well as LT) in college, and his physical limitations say that he should be a better pro LG than LT...

Best-case scenario would be (ass-uming Thuney leaves):
Brown returns to his 2018 LT form
Wynn moves to LG
Andrews re-signs
Mason & Onwenu remain at RG & RT respectively.

34 seconds into the clip Wynn at lg is the reason for the interception. He played left guard to start the game and it wasn't great. Eventually he is moved to left tackle and Owenu is at left guard. Rewatch this week 6 game against the Broncos and you will start to question if that lineup is best.

That makes me question Wynn more than the proposed lineup. LOL.

Yea he actually played really well there.

Right now I've yet to see a solid or logical argument to move Wynn inside. We'll see but Bill does.
