???
If the patriots sign Thuney, he'll get the same money whether he plays OG or C. Are you suggesting that some in league want to offere him monye in order to play center?
Bill would not pay him G money to play C. Thuney is not coming back. It’s insane to think otherwise.

Answer to the second question: no. Thuney wants to be paid as G and teams will play him at G.

Over the Cap is the better source to use. That's per Miguel.

The problem with Over the Cap was they broke the guard position up by left and right guard rather than all in one bucket. It wasn't that their data was incorrect. It was that I was only looking at the cap hits for right guards only.

The top paid Center currently is Ryan Kelly. His APY is 12.4M. So, it's not really "quite a bit" if he was paid at $14M.

Andrews isn't likely to get paid as well as people think. He's not in the top 10 in the league for centers. He's above average to good, but not VG imho.

But Thuney is likely to be break the bank this year. He will probably get upwards to $15-16 million per year. It happens every year that the bar gets set. I don't think the reduced cap will affect the top of the market guys, but it will hurt second and third tier free agents who might have to settle for one year deals or reduced contracts. Could be wrong, but I am guessing that will be what happens.

Not sure if its still the case but there was a huge beef over pages like Spotrac essentially web-scraping numbers (i. e. stealing) off OTC's page a couple years ago.

With OTC you are definitely on the safer side.

First - You have no idea if Thuney is gone or not.
Second - You're incorrect on what they would lose for Cap Room for Garappolo since they could EASILY push $12M into next year. Based on a $205M cap number (before adjustments) the Pats would have about $80M in cap space.
Third - We do know Thuney can properly snap the ball in the shotgun. He did it this year during the Raiders game. Thuney has been the emergency center for the last few years and has seen game snaps there.
The patriots aren’t going to have 80 million in cap space next year after they add the players that take up the 68 mill they have available this year.

Except there aren't any worth that high of a pick in this draft from what I've been reading.

Also, they could invest in a WR or a LB. I know one draft expert here who would pretty happy if it was Kwity Paye who was drafted.
I think Christian Barmore should be there for the taking and he will be worthy of the pick.

I believe we gave up a 5th which isn't much at all. Wynn has failed to impress. He's a big downgrade over the likes of Matt Light and Nate Solder. If Brown works out we can kick Wynn to Guard and solidfy the line.

Unfortunately it looks like BB is gonna let Thuney go rather than pay him so don't expect to see him playing C for the Pats going forward.

At the end of 2021, both Wynn and brown could be free agents.

seems like bb usually drafts one draft ahead. Could he spend a day one or two pick on an offensive tackle?

I like the signing but think some of you need to pump the brakes a bit on expectations.
He was fat, out of shape and had covid-related health issues last year.
On the plus side, its a one-year prove-it deal so you'd expect his motivation to be high. He'll also be surrounded by an excellent ol and he wont want to be the weak link. So good chance he produces for us.
But Id rather expect less and be thrilled with what he does than get all hyped-up with how awesome hes gonna be and then be disappointed.
What kind of shape he shows up in will tell us a lot

I don't understand it. In a league full of great offensive linemen he's got top 15 potential. I really don't get it. Never any problems in college. Can't prepare for an Achilles. Last year got rolled up on by a defender. You can't plan for that stuff. **** happens. Nice guy, really good player but gets no love here.

I’ve for nothing but admiration for the guy. Personally, I’d rather see him at left guard which to me seems like his natural postion. He crushed it at the senior bowl and showed like the best player on the field. More than willing to see how Brown does back at his old position and shifting Wynn over. If it doesn’t work out then ofcourse they can change it up. Not sure why anyone would count that as spite vs Wynn unless we’re talking the usual he “sucks” crowd.

I thought G was the spot he'd excel at the most coming out and I was wrong. In fairness to me I spend about 90 seconds thinking about that stuff. I'm not a coach and will leave it up to them.

The point is there's absolutely no reason, zero. To want to move him. None. Besides he's hurt and played guard in college. The guy has been a very good tackle. Both in pass pro and the run game. I don't think he would be a better player at guard and have yet to to hear any valid reasons why. Which is important considering its a big change at this level. In fact I feel I could argue it cancels out his biggest strengths. Also I want my most athletic guys at tackle 99% of the time.

Nothing wrong at all with your post. Or even that opinion in a sense. That said there is an undercurrent of bs towards him in this thread. As evidenced as a few post up from yours. Dropkick and others come with spam bs. He's one of our best and only young players. He shouldn't get the nonsense that's thrown his way but it's certainly not everyone.

That depends a lot on how many 1 year contracts are signed, as we just did.

Problem with Barmore is he's a good pass rushing DT but underwhelming as a run defender on 3rd and short or goal line. If we go DLine it should be a stout 3down player who is elite at run defense.

Wynn has major skills. There is no denying that, only whiny posters are twisting it up now. But Wynn is super injury prone. It wasn't just a freak achilles injury. He's had 4-5 separate injuries to the foot, toe, ankle, knee, achilles. Not on just 1 leg. He's only played 16 out of 48 games, he missed games for 3 straight years. We can't rely on him. So it's fair to say Wynn isn't automatically the best person for the LT job. At this point Trent Brown should be the front runner for LT, he was excellent in New England at LT and won a championship ring playing LT here. Trent Brown is also an elite pass blocker and a better pass blocker than a run blocker. Wynn has played guard before and maybe moving inside will be better for his health and 6'2 body.

Thuney vs. Raiders

0 sacks 0 hurries 0 pressures
3rd highest graded center

I think it's clear Thuney is better than Andrews and Thuney can play center. That isn't the issue. It's how much $ do you sink into OLine with Brown getting 11m and Mason also making good money, at the expense of the total roster. Do you pay Thuney 16m to play center or Andrews at half or less than half of that cost for decent quality play ?

How many teams can afford to pay him and who will? There aren't that many teams that have the cap room to pay a guard. Maybe Jets/Jags, I don't know if his market is going to be as plentiful as posters think.

Bengals would be my guess. Enough Cap room and they need to protect Burrow.

I think he’s young enough and good enough to get teams to consider extreme backloading to make it work. A five year contract with a $1M salary and $15M signing bonus pays him $16M this year with a $4M cap hit, for example.
