Problem is the cat misses way too much time.Exactly. Some are so hung up on their prior bias including only thinking of Onwenu as a guard. Looking at actual success in the Patriot system, our best and most stable choices are Trent Brown at LT and Michael Onwenu at RT. People are getting hung up on Wynn's draft position or whatever but you don't build your OLine around a super injury prone guy who is unreliable to go a whole season.
I think Wynn will definitely be here though his 4th year though. Maybe Wynn gets traded in his option year. I can’t imagine it’ll be straight up declined.Right. To be fair when healthy Wynn is a very, very good LT. Problem is the cat misses way too much time.
I think the Brown move is less about Thuney and more about the NEP feeling better about pulling the trigger on trading Wynn b/c they don't want to guarantee him $10m in 2022 by picking up the 5th year option.
10 mill is peanuts for a player of wynns caliber at an important position.Right. To be fair when healthy Wynn is a very, very good LT. Problem is the cat misses way too much time.

Maybe. Draft is 4/29. Wynn's option needs to be picked up by 5/3I think Wynn will definitely be here though his 4th year though.
I don't think they can as he'll be a FA.Maybe Wynn gets traded in his option year. I can’t imagine it’ll be straight up declined.
It isn't if he can't stay on the field.10 mill is peanuts for a player of wynns caliber at an important position.
That might be what they are thinking. There is zero chance we keep Wynn for 10M. Wynn has skills I don't deny that but he's so injury prone and unreliable. I might trade Wynn now for something .
Brandon Scherff got tagged, which means Thuney is by far the best available G in FA. He is going to break the bank. Looking at the last few years, BB usually rarely signs high priced players that would cost him a comp pick.
This would be the line I would want to see. Good move by Belichick to shore up the OL before free agency and the draft.Id argue
LT Wynn
LG Onwenu
C (Andrews)
RG Mason
RT Brown
is the better line. Both are very good so you dont need the perfect world
Mason has 3 year left on his contract. He's currently 8th on the list. Why can't the Patriots do it? Have you looked at their cap space going forward? 66M this year. Even if they used up all that space, they'd still have over $75M in cap space for next season at the projected $200M cap.Yes, but that means the Pats won't have to break the bank to sign him. Thuney is going to be highest paid guard wherever he ends up. the Pats just gave Mason top of the market guard money a few years ago. I don't think you can have both your guards near the top of the market at their position.
None have given an once of insight as to why besides he played G in college and has been hurt in a sport where everyone gets hurt.I'm not sure why so many want to move Wynn when he is the best LT on the team.
Rodney Harrison. Stephon Gilmore. Adalius Thomas.
You don't seem to understand how the Comp pick system works. It's no a slotted system. For instance, if they only lose THUNEY to an eligible Comp contract, but sign 1 guy to an eligible comp contract, there is no 3rd round comp for Thuney.
I've been following how the comp picks work for the last 20 years. I also picked up things from @Miguel and AdamJT13. The biggest thing is that a COMP PICK isn't guaranteed. The assumption that it is, is a fallacy.
Mason isn't in the top 10 paid guards in the NFL anymore.Yes, but that means the Pats won't have to break the bank to sign him. Thuney is going to be highest paid guard wherever he ends up. the Pats just gave Mason top of the market guard money a few years ago. One year extension to a guy who has battled injury issues is very different than a long term contract. It isn't if he can't stay on the field.
Or for Cam, to give him more time to get through his progression reads.Move has me salivating. The OL is going to be nasty if they retain Andrews. Love it, and the fact it’ll probably be a near wash financially if they cut Cannon and that the pick swap is likely extremely minimal, it’s a masterful move.
Also makes me wonder their intentions. Garoppolo? Gotta give him a great OL to protect him. Or perhaps trying to give great protection for a rookie player?
I like Wynn better at LT than Brown as Wynn has really quick feet. Brown started out at RT so he'll be fine there. An argument could be made that Brown is a superior LT then Wynn. Don’t care how the OL shakes out ... just don’t want to see Wynn at RT in any scenario other then injuries.
Not a 1 year extension @ $10m guaranteed. No way.One year extension to a guy who has battled injury issues is very different than a long term contract.
We will see what they do. Arguing about it at this point is useless. Not a 1 year extension @ $10m guaranteed. No way.
If hes open to a deal in which he can hit $11m but 3/5th is made up in incentives i'm 100% on board.
