Player Signing Trent Brown trade to Pats

2019, Karras was the one calling the blocking assignments, not Thuney. You also had Newhouse and Ferentz on the line at times, making matters worse.

Have the line stay the same, for the most part, helped this season. Thuney at center is a vast upgrade over Andrews and paying him 12-15 APY is a no brainer for someone who is an ALL-PRO caliber player.

I know that Karras was making the assignments. The center always does. I am pointing out how much of a difference Andrews seemed to make being back in there.

But Andrews will not cost nearly as much as Thuney. I wouldn't be upset if the Pats re-signed Thuney, but I think Andrews may be more important right now.

Onwenu played more snaps at tackle and was good.......you don't take a good tackle and make them a guard

Why? I don't buy for a second that guard as a position is that much less valuable than tackle. Same with left tackle vs right tackle. You need talent at all 5 spots, and you certainly don't downgrade the average ability of the OL just so the tackles are better.

Honest question: If the Pats have an excellent OL and a great running game, do they get to win games with a mediocre-to-below-average QB? (Assuming the defense shows up too)
They can win games but they won't beat Buffalo for the division.

I think I take Andrews over the other two. Thuney is clearly a better player, but I think Andrews is more important to the line. In 2019, there were far too many missed blocking assignments on the line. That was corrected last year. You have to assume that Andrews was a big part of that reason.
If we resign Andrews, he is a pretty good player, but he definitely becomes the weak link of our line...if we have Thuney in place of Andrews, there is no weak link. I know kind of a long shot, but I think an O-line with Brown/Owenu/Thuney/Mason/Wynn is something special.

If David Andrews is weak link of your offensive line, you have a pretty damn good o-line. I bet at least a half to two thirds of the league wishes they had a center at least as good as Andrews.

I would frame it this way: would you rather a guy as good as Andrews be the worst starter on the line, or would you rather pay $14M/year (or more) for a center?

I'm not trying to get on Andrews...I've had a few posters say that I hate him, not the case, I have just seen him get blown up a little too much over the years by big defensive tackles....I think he is a great leader and clubhouse guy, I would just rather have Thuney than him. A different level of player.

If one remembers the scouting on Trent Brown, he's actually an ELITE pass protector but surprisingly not good at run blocking. He's massive in size which is why teams keep putting him at RT where he has not been a good RT on the 49ers and Raiders. When Scar got ahold of Brown they had Brown play elite left tackle and Cannon at RT. Trent Brown knows the left tackle position on the Patriots plus we have a young stud on a good contract playing right tackle right now named Michael Onwenu. The biggest wild card in this is actually Isiah Wynn who in my mind hasn't solidified any job and is small at 6'2. Trent Brown's best position is LT for us, keep Onwenu at what he's already doing which is RT, see if Wynn can play a full season at LG, and say bye to Cannon.

This is Wynn insurance as well since he loves going to IR. He's got to cut that s**t out.

Interesting trade

I guess Brown preferred sure money over the uncertainty of being cut loose in this bizarre free agency year.

Yes and he stayed there because he kicked ass.

We have no idea what Brown will do. He could be fat, dumb and happy. No guarantees.

If he reverts to 2018 form then he sure as **** ain't sitting on the bench.

Onwenu played better than the options available for RT. Yes, he surpassed Eleumenor. He was already ahead of Herron. Onwenu is not better than Brown.

You're right. There are no guarantees. We could all die tomorrow in a nuclear attack.. The likelihood of Brown being "fat dumb and happy" is slim to none. Slimmer than Wynn moving inside..

Of course he's a different level of player, but he also comes at a different level of price. If we sign him, based on the existing personnel, he will almost definitely be our center next season. The problem is that he's looking at top guard money.

I said earlier in this thread that I believe all 5 OL positions are close, or outright equal, in value. The league doesn't see it that way, paying centers less than guards, and paying guards less than tackles, with left tackles by far getting paid the most. This creates externalities in the OL economy where you are getting much more for your money if you pay a player who's known as a center (Andrews), but much less for your money if you pay a player known as a guard (Thuney). It makes even less sense if you pay that player guard money to play center with that in mind.

So the best O line in the nfl will be blocking for the leagues worst WRs, leagues worst QB, and Slowny Michel

He wasn’t worth a second ever in his career.
In my humble opinion.
We needed him to be Batman and at his best he wasn’t even Robin
Bill lost his hand at poker to a former employee that got fired a year later. Bill took the bait thinking the 9ers were interested, but they had already said "no thanks" to the asinine asking price of a 2nd and turned their attention to Sanders.

And putting him back to return a punt was hilarious given his not quick and only returned one ONCE in his career. It was painful to watch him try to dodge defenders coming at him before shredding his ankle. I've said it before, but it wouldn't shock me if Tom had some words for Bill on that idiotic Coaching move.

He run blocked well here, it was the other teams that had a problem with his run blocking. We'll see how it goes.

Wrong, it's going to be Damien Harris.

I hope so. Harris has a bit of Derick Henry in him. However we don’t feel Harris on goaline or throw him passes

Trent Brown is an amazing pass blocker but again who is our QB? And who are our WRs besides Jacobi Meyers?

I know. Enough with the rugby style plays 5-10 yards out. It's embarrassing.
