Update: 5-year old girl involved in Britt Reid accident awakens from coma

How can the Chiefs be sued? If I did something like that scumbag Reid did in my free time, my employer could not be sued AFAIK.
If he was drinking at work - and given the proximity of the accident to the stadium it sure looks like he was - then I could see a case being made to go after the Chiefs.

Of course, the law wouldn't really matter because a lawsuit like that is about PR, not the law. The Chiefs would pay a couple million just to make the lawsuit, and subsequent bad PR, go away.

Makes sense. I did not realize he was boozing at the "office."

I hope the kid will be OK. So awful.

I read somewhere that it will be an uphill battle for the girl to emerge from her coma. :(

I thought she was awake but can't speak.

She’s awake but has irreparable brain damage. At the moment she cannot speak or walk but it can only be hoped that some of that might come back with extensive physical therapy and time. But who knows.

Horrible. I'm hoping that being so young, she can heal and grow and have something close to a normal life.

I'm ok with the family going after everyone who could possibly be involved. They're going to need the money and, on a grimmer note, it's the closest thing to vengeance that they can ever get in our society.

Absolutely terrible. Reid should spend the rest of his life in prison.

One man's humble prediction:

Assuming the girl survives* I bet he doesn't even do a year of actual time behind bars.... maybe 2-3 at most..... what is going to happen is the family lawyer is going to transition from "we want to throw the book at him!!" to "you know, on second thought, there is nothing to be gained from pressing charges...."

*Based on what I have read, it looks like she is going to survive but be permanently disabled. If, however, something were to happen and she went into a coma, permanent vegetative state or brain death, and the family decided to cease life support, that puts Reid on the hook for manslaughter.

could not agree with this more.

It’s possible. Before she left the outpatient clinic she was at and went back to the schools to have more free time to be with our daughter, my wife was the speech therapist who worked with PTs and OTs on a motorcycle accident victim. He sustained massive brain damage in the accident and, for a while, was in a similar coma. Three years later and he’s walking and talking (albeit with permanent issues). The doctors didn’t think he’d ever do either again. So it’s definitely possible that she can lead some form of a functional life. Just depends on which part of the brain sustained the most damage and the quality of care she’s able to get.

Well, the legal arm twisting has begun.... normally I feel bad for people when lawyers extort them but I just can't bring myself to have any sympathy for Britt Reid here....

He has either killed or practically ended this girl's life as we know it. He's lucky the parents don't just take business into their own hands. Life in prison would be cake compared to what most parents would do to him

It's always difficult for a parent not to want to defend their children from almost anything because It's just a natural reaction. However, Andy Reid better not even try to defend Britt on this inexcusable very sad transgression.

Agreed. I would personally love my son if he was the literal antichrist, but that doesn't mean I'd defend him for bringing on the apocalypse

A KC sports radio host called out Andy Reid years ago for having a litany of home life problems. Philly police stated that Reids house was like a drug emporium after a search.

The masses went berserk. Of course, the radio guy, who is part owner of the station, was forced to step down and end his radio show.

Bottom line. Keep the truth to yourself.

well i hope that win or lose we booze arians and the bucs aren't doing the same thing at their team facility as the chiefs.

Reid didn’t commit a crime against humanity filming the other team’s sidelines though.
