NFL GAME DAY DISCUSSION OFFICIAL Super Bowl Bucs/Chiefs Game Thread

It’s beyond comical to think that only immobile QBs are affected. Rodgers also struggled badly against it. Every QB struggles against it and always has.

The difference is Brady often takes a sack or throws it away. He’ll start doing that in anticipation of the pass rush. These mobile QBs do the same thing except they scramble backwards and run outside the pocket despite often not needing to. QBs are supposed to anticipate the rush and react accordingly.

From what I observe, Brady’s weaknesses lead to less damage than the scramblers, even though those guys will occasionally get a big highlight reel play.
Mahomes in particular takes huge drop back out of the shot gun and then has the arm strength to whip it downfield mostly on target to a guy like Hill a few times a game. But it’s also really risky todo that if hill and Kielce don’t get open. TB didn’t let them get open downfield all game.

I don't think I've ever seen such an effort to gaslight us like the full frontal assault by the media right now...I mean, what the hell is this? Going into the game, all the talk was about how briliant this guy is, how he never gets blown out, how he'll make adjustments, how he'll make quick passes, how he'll take what the defense gives him.

Now they're reduced to outright misleading headlines...lmfao...the game before this, Josh Allen was panned by these same people for running backwards - a few times - to avoid the pass rush.

The Chiefs scored zero touchdowns, correct? What a pathetic whitewashing effort. The guy was 100X more shell shocked and scared in this game than Brady was in SB42 or the AFCCG in 2015. Running around and playing hero ball may show off your athleticism and draw attention to your courage, but it hurt the team's chances. It played right into Tampa Bay's strategy.

I definitely think Bowles and the defense knew Mahomes couldn’t resist running around like that trying to play hero ball and make the highlight play .

Yeah this game was a real eyebrow raiser to me. It's like he didn't know how to handle pressure nor to adapt to pressure like Brady has over the years. Looked almost like 2020 Cam Newton. It will be interesting to see what teams do to them now and how much of a regression there will be when they use the same kind of defense against him in the future.

Raiders and Broncos used it against KC during the regular season. BB has used it. They are susceptible to the bend but don’t break style with a heavy emphasis on coverage. It won’t always work like it did Sunday, but until the Chiefs develop a short passing game it will slow them down

The Chiefs were probably hosed regardless, but typically when there is a strong rush you want to get the ball out of your hands quickly, but Mahomes was constantly trying to hit the highlight reel scramble drill throw by holding onto the ball. You also want to try to make the linebackers move laterally to wear them out. The Chiefs barely even called a play remotely like that. They also left their tackles out on an island on almost every snap long after it became clear they couldn't hang with just 5 blockers.

Super Bowl 49 is a good parallel, Brady had little time to throw and they couldn't really run, but he was constantly making the Seahawks D run side to side chasing Edelman and Amendola and picked his spots for bigger plays like the Gronk TD. By the 4th quarter their D was DOA, and he'd taken some sacks but nothing like the kill shots Mahomes ate on his scrambles.

Forgot to add, a lot of the OMG RECEIVER DROPS Mahomes was the "victim" of were plays where there were a ton of defenders in the face of the receiver. Yeah the ball got there but it wasn't a gimmie catch like some people are implying.

Unfortunately Mahomes himself came to that conclusion today saying he was wrong running around to make big, deep plays and he should have tried to exploit that fact that Tamper played 2 safety deep all game. Part of this is on Eric, The Enemy for not having a 2nd half Plan B trying just that. Whatever, because last Sunday that Tampa pass rush and D was NOT gonna let them score more than in the low 20s, if that. Brady played 4th QTR to drain the clock.

He may be a yinzer, but he's alright in my book ...

The analysts are already starting to talk about SB 55 being Brady's greatest achievement.

In totality, this might've been his most difficult SB win. Covid. New team (Terrible one at that). Average team at the end of November. Getting through three HOFers. Two of which were road wins.

But I think 28-3 has to be his greatest SB game achievement. If he was down 28-3 near the end of the half, that would be one thing (Though still amazing). It was 28-3 with like 8 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. 31 unanswered points. Nobody will ever top that. And it happened in the SB.

Meh, no different than our forum after SB 42, 46, or 52...
The Schottsie passing has touched a lot of them as many were kids when he was HC

The ones who will always hate Bill and the Pats. I actually think 49 vs the Legion of Boom was his very best
That was his first Joe Montana SB comebwck moment. Down 10 vs a legendary defense with 10 minutes left.

As a side, I watched Super Bowl 49 again to catch up on my Patriots knowledge. If I'm going to be a member I should be as knowledgeable as possible.

Malcolm Butler made three key plays:

1. Break up of pass to Kearse down 24-14. If he catches that, Seattle is well in NE territory. Could've been the game.

2. Butler pushing Kearse out of bounds after the miracle catch. Collinsworth said "I can't believe he didn't get up and get in the end zone". At the time probably nobody cared about that. In fact, I bet Patriots fans were hoping he did score a TD. As it would've left 1:20 for Brady. But those words just stuck with me because of what would follow.

3. The Pick. Not just racing to the ball and catching it. But the ability to hold onto it while falling down. It almost appeared as though Hightower gave him a shove on his way down.

I think the fact that the Chiefs just came into this game with their 100% bog standard game plan on both offense and defense, and had no adjustments in their back pocket to pivot to when they knew their OL was in bad shape just shows how arrogant and complacent they were.

Bowles had the 100% right idea (2 deep safeties, 4 man rush) but it wasn't some radical idea the Chiefs could never see coming or something. This wasn't Belichick busting out a 6 man front against the Rams and then changing between a fake play call and a real play call after the QB's radio cut out.

I think a lot of it has to do with their dominant offense. The media loves a dominant offense. Same reason they slobbered all over Manning and the the Colts while we were dominating them and winning SuperBowls. That and they love anything new and shiny. They are easily distracted and live only in the now

Why do we have to be mad at either of them? Sometimes things just come to a natural end. If Bill bears any blame (other than being difficult to work for) it's the roster construction. He tried to get Brady help- Harry, Sony, Sane, etc, he just failed. Why on Earth would an ultra competitive player want to come back to a team that has no chance to win a title and waste the last few years of his career? I get that a lot of people want there to be a bad guy in the situation. But sometimes there isn't one. If you want to be mad at Bill there are plenty of reasons. Arrogantly refusing to adjust the game plan in the 07 SuperBowl until it was too late. Handing a title to Foles and Doug Peterson by sitting his best CB in a petty spat, etc
This relationship just came to it's natural conclusion. Reminds me of the Ray Borque situation. It was just nice to have a winning team to root for in what was an otherwise dreadful, excruciating season. I have all of Tampa's wins saved on a hard drive, just like I do with the Pats and I will enjoy re watching for the rest of my life. Can't wait to get into the offseason and see how the rebuild starts to shape up and preseason games in August. I don't think I would feel so excited for next year were it not for what Brady accomplished in Tampa. I know I was feeling pretty burned out at this time last year.
Tech question: how did you save them to a hard drive?

Step 1 complete. Good job.

No doubt in my mind by week1 next season you’ll find yourself in full pats gear ready to root for the good guys.

Who's head are they asking for at the stake first? Bi-enemy, Fat Andy, Kelsie, OL?
