Stafford traded to Rams

considering how badly the rams overpaid to get Stafford (yes, unloading the Goff contract was part of it).....if detroit is committed to the rebuild, and has a high pick to possibly draft a QB.......they'd be nuts not to explore Goff deals with the absurd validity of the current QB market, yes?

The Colts could be a dark horse here. They have no QB and a roster built to compete for "andrew luck" now they are stuck at the alter looking for someone, anyone. If drew brees doesnt retire could see them signing him for another rivers type deal.

but could also see Detroit maybe shop Goff to him. hes young, colts have the capspace, he can win games...

What an absolutely god awful trade for the Rams. Les Snead has been smoking too much of that Cali gas.
Fleeced. Absolutely fleeced. The only positive I see is that they are out of the contract.

Based on the 175M projections they are 10M in the red. Sounds like a scenario where you maybe restructure his contract, turn some salary into a bonus that you eat over the next couple years and try to make him a lightweight trading chip ?

Good lucking making sense of a 15.5M roster bonus for 22 though.

in the context of making sense of how much the rams gave up, though......someone might be down

Remember, though, following the 2022 season, Goff's contract gets much easier to move, with $0 dead cap hit if he's cut.

This is a huge win for the Lions any way you look at it. They can draft their QB for the future and Goff can be their bridge QB for two years. It's not like he's terrible, he's just not worth that contract.

Some Rams fans are justifying the trade because its the win now approach and will take advantage of a young Aaron Donald.

Yeah, like Stafford took advantage of Ndamukong Suhs and Calvin Johnsons careers.

If DET flips Goff out of this as well ! Genius. Too bad they have that Rah-rah weirdo as coach.

Indy could go after Goff! In my opinion they are a QB away. Outside of Waston, Goff could be the best option available.

Missing from this list is ... Jared Goff, whose $22.2m dead cap charge still sits at #3 on the team lol. That puts you at $132.1m for your top 7 cap charges, when the cap is currently projected to only be $176m total.
This is similar to the type of spending fans suggest all the time... let's see if it works. The Rams are on the clock, so far they have zero rings to show for their free spending ways.

So....who could the Pats target on the Rams, to take advantage of their salary cap issues. They will probably extend Stafford in order to lower his salary cap hit but Goff will still cost them $22 mill next year in dead money.

Woods may become available, if they feel that Jefferson can fill his role. They only get significant cap savings if they trade him, however, as noted above. If they just cut him, his cap number doesn’t change (even with a post-June 1 designation) plus there would be a big dead cap hit. In 2022 and beyond, however, he can be cut with almost no dead money left behind. Still only 28, I’d ask about him if I were Bill. I wouldn’t pay a premium but would take on his salary if the Rams gave a good deal as a salary dump. Kupp would be ideal for the Pats but seems very unlikely that they would deal him.

On defense, Brockers may become available (cut with post June 1 designation or trade would save the Rams $6-6.5 million next year). They still would have Donald and Sebastian Joseph-Day in the DL. If they resigned Guy and picked up Brockers, their DL would look much better for 2021. If he isn’t a fit, they can cut him and his dead cap hit in 2022 would only be $1.8 million, with $9 million in savings. On the other hand, he is already 30 and the Pats need to get younger.
Go after their TE Gerald Everett, really good and underrated free agent coming from a team that uses 3 WR sets more than anyone and who had two TE's including Higbee so it was always a time share.

Is it too early to give the Lions GM executive of the year?

Looks like Stafford to Rams is a done deal. Rams get Stafford, give up Goff, 2 future. 1st rd picks and another pick (3rd rd). If Stafford is getting that much, imagine the cost to grab Watson? Holy ****!

Confirmed by BR.
congrats to Detroit for one the top 10 steals in NFL history

Would the Lions trade Goff again?

If the ask is #15 I wouldn’t say no.

This is partially good news for the Patriots in the sense that Detroit is not going to select a QB in the 1st round. So, once again, one of Zach Wilson, Justin Fields or Trey Lance will drop to the Patriots. Very important since I'm hoping against hoping we don't end up with Marc Wilson, err, I mean Mac Jones.
I’m ok with picking Jones in the third round. Probably won’t be there though.

McVay eats Monopoly and craps out Connect Four.

Not defending Stafford completely but the Lions aren’t known as a beacon of competence at running a franchise. I’ve lost count how many resets they’ve had, it probably rivals the Jete.

Any truth that Ricky Proehl has declared that dynasty has been born with the signing of Stafford? Based on his previous predictions, it probably means a dynasty for the Lions.
