Stafford traded to Rams

Then they are either (1) fools or (2) willing to be mediocre for years...

I don’t like Stafford as a « guy to get you over the hump » unless you have the 1980s SF vs Vanderbilt. That guy has lots of talent, but McVay will soon notice that he can say all the right things in the war piece, Stafford is still going to throw the bad INT in the worst spots.

This is why i hate the deal on the rams end. Stafford is great but hes not proven to be a championship qb, hasn’t even won a playoff game to my knowledge. At least go for an elite guy like Watson if you’re willing to throw several picks away. Looks like an act of desperation after signing a bad contract.

I'll take Aaron Donald for the #15 straight up. The Rams could use some first rounders...

Really though - I'd be asking about Kupp. That's $10m saved and they are almost $35m over the cap...
I love Kupp and he’d be perfect for the Pats, and would definitely ask the Rams about him, but I would just be surprised if the Rams would agree to trade him. Then again, if they don’t get any takers for Woods, even for a bargain basement rate, they may consider trading Kupp, because cutting Woods does them no good from a salary cap perspective.

Addendum: I just looked up their ages and Woods is only 14 months older than Kupp. That’s surprising....and interesting from a Woods vs. Kupp trade perspective.

I'll take Woods and Kupp together for a 3rd. Rams can draft a replacement with their first rounder. :haha:

I think the biggest loser of this trade are the Colts
Considerably. They are screwed now. Stafford was easily the most natural fit to replace Rivers. Also there is no scenario I see the Texans shipping Watson within the division. So they are pretty much in purgatory right now. They have a good team and no QB. At least with us we could always pass a year and focus on building everything else and wait for a spot for a QB. The Colts literally have one priority and they might not get it.

Those are the bells of Alex Smith you are hearing..

Seems like the Rams threw away picks to stay the same.
How much better is Stafford compared to Goff?

Weve got basically 4 full seasons of 26 year old Goff to look at and 9 full seasons of the 32 year old Stafford

Over the beginning 4 year spans of their starting careers.

1. Both have been healthy. Goff only missed 2 games.
2. Both are + 60% passers.
3. Goff 102 TDs - 48 INTs - 103 Sacks
4. Staff 112 TDs - 64 INTs - 133 Sacks

Detroit made out like bandits.

Why don't we just get Smith?

I honestly stopped caring. It is not like there is any realistic way to put together a package for Watson and beyond him there is nothing actually exciting out there.

Whatever success the 21 Patriots will have will be scheme-based anyhow. Whether that is with Smith, JG, Newton or whoever else is a potential target I find it hard to discover some "exciting angle".

What an absolutely god awful trade for the Rams. Les Snead has been smoking too much of that Cali gas.

Why don't we just get Smith?
I’ve mentioned him as a bridge player to a rookie we draft. Whether that’s Jones or Trask (I don’t see them picking a QB in the first round unless Wilson falls), we can sit them for a year and plug in Smith. He’d be a natural fit for what we like to do on offense.

It was. Just because a stupid team did something very stupid the facts don't change.

I mean, 3 #1s is very different than 1 #1. If he's not worth a #1, then that must mean you believe he's worth a #2, and since it takes about 3 #2s to equal a #1, you think they not only overpaid by 3x as much as he was worth, but 9x as much, which would make this more lopsided than the Ricky Williams trade.

Crazy compensation given to the Lions. Two 1st round picks + 3rd ?

Imagine what compensation will be given to the Texans for DeShaun !!

Not worth it for Patriots.

IMO

Texans are at LEAST getting Jets #2 pick and 2 other firsts plus additional draft capital if they move on from Watson.

McVay's playing Yahtzee

can the Lions turn around and trade Goff without suffering a cap hit?

Before 3/19 it seems like a yes.

considering how badly the rams overpaid to get Stafford (yes, unloading the Goff contract was part of it).....if detroit is committed to the rebuild, and has a high pick to possibly draft a QB.......they'd be nuts not to explore Goff deals with the absurd volatility of the current QB market, yes?
