DRAFT BGC 2021 Pre-Draft/Patriot-Type Prospect(s) thread

Thanks for the info...what position do you see us drafting in the 1st round? And which player do you have going to us as of now?

Even before Ridder and Strong opted out, I felt the Pats would go DT.. HOWEVER, Considering players like Moore and Pitts, I could see the Pats going that direction and then taking a DT in the 2nd round. @BaconGrundleCandy mentioned that there is likely to be a few who would still bring good value to the Pats.

"I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced." ;)

I know that you wanted Ridder to the Patriots..

this was surprising. After he knocked up his girlfriend, I thought he would declare!

Thanks for the info...what position do you see us drafting in the 1st round? And which player do you have going to us as of now?
So, according to PFF, Mac Jones is their highest rated QB??

With Ridder going back to school, do you think the Patriots reach for a QB this season or wait for next year with a bridge type guy such as Brissett?
I'm thinking we'll have 5-6 realistic targets at 15 and 2-3 if we wanted to trade back and stay in round one.

Slater, Vera-Tucker, Pitts, Waddle, Moore, Moehrig, Leatherwood, Mayfield, Cosmi, Lance and Chase. Probably missing one or two but I'm a zombie rn and It's tough to think.

I think Lawrence, Wilson and Fields go top 5 and possibly Lance falls outside of the top ten.

So this is kind of a big deal. The combine or some shape of it will happen but the normalcy won't be the same. Some scouts have been "internet" scouts for a year now. Unable to look at the prospects or step on certain campuses or months. Lots of networking and new relationships that would take place.
Just like at the combine. Which was created to pass around medicals and injury concerns. Which is enormous. Two guys that immediately come to mind are Joe Mathis and Antonio Garcia. Mathis I should have known better, I liked the prospect too much and ignored "bad weight" (weight not proportioned throughout the body, lots of fat in one areas - legs, butt, stomach) that's very tough to combat. I should have been better there. I knew about Garcia but had no idea to the extent. There are others but those two stick out.

The combine is when guys are letting their guard down a little bit. The season is over, everyone can breathe for a minute. You see old friends. You get to see the new generation up close and plus it's really cool to check out. Lots of networking and deals get made here. It's one of the more important events of the year. Maybe even more so than the actual draft. Very rarely are this many big shots in a room/building/town together for a full week. Can't overstate how big a deal it is. And that's not even talking about the thresholds being met or not. Prospects blowing away teams you didn't think could run 4.4 or jump almost 40 inches.

I think it absolutely happens but some things will be changed up or modified to compromise with current conditions.

Will have reports on Leatherwood, Chase and Waddle soon. Work just sux rn. Actually getting a break tonight. I get to watch a heater for 12 hours. Just making sure it's on, working right etc I like to work, get stuff done, stay busy but I'll take the break. So I'll have at least 2 out tonight. Planning on watching WW1984 too.

I really like Leatherwood. His tape was fun. Dude is a mauler with a nasty attitude! Very good run blocking power pig with position versatility. I just think he's a player, kinda safe option. Might never be the best at his position, Tackle or Guard but I think it's a guarantee that he's a player in the league for minute. I think he could play both positions but more on him later.

Waddle is pure dynamite on the field. Explosive, threat from anywhere on the field. Might never be a 100/1400/11 guy or take a while to get there but he's someone with serious potential. I mean he absolutely has to be respected immediately. I don't think we've seen what he's really capable of yet. He's one of these guys that will be really good anywhere but put him with Wilson, Shanahan or Watson and look out. He'll be an absolute nightmare to cover when you talk about game planning.

Chase is a straight up bully. I love the alpha attitude. He's much more than that though. Actually pretty well rounded and really like the trajectory he was on before this year. He flashed with 20-something rec early on but exploded after LSU reloaded last year. He'll be 21 in march so still a baby when you consider experience. Daniel Jeremiah compared him to Steve Smith, Bolden and Ju-Ju. All decent comps but I'm seeing or going with a mix of Chris Chambers and Brandon Lloyd. More on them soon.

Possible RT option

Possible RT option

mh the RT it's just not that value position than LT i guess. Dude is a one of the better RT and has nice size but his run blocking could need more power

I think we like what we have in Herron and Onwenu but if Thuney and Cannon are gone we'll need more depth at the very least. I have Mayfield in the round two area, if he slips to three it could be a real option.

Plus I made it a point to include schools we've recently selected from. Bill loves drafting teammates from the same school or going to the same school two years in a row.

I also dosage about RT/LT PFFOS. LT is slightly for valuable imo but the gap isn't that much at all. You're blocking Von Miller, Sweat and a lot of other really good pass rushers. A lot of teams have multiple options and there's so much manufactured pressure both guys are getting tested and put through a gauntlet every game.

I love Dane he's one of the best but my goodness Smith at #3 overall?! Over Sewell? I'm trading that pick for a haul and grabbing Chase or Pitts if they're set on a target. Or even Moore or Olave later.

Pats
15. New England Patriots — Jaylen Waddle, WR, Alabama
The Patriots will examine several quarterback options this offseason, but it might not matter much unless they add more playmakers. Waddle and his special athleticism would be an instant shot of adrenaline for the offense.
46. New England Patriots — Levi Onwuzurike, DT, Washington

Lance falls to Carolina. Detroit, Cinci or Phila could be possible trade partners if they're set on QB and theres a decent chance they are. Those look like decent options. We actually want Mia to take Smith at 3. And if the Jetes stick with Sam we're in really good shape. One or two of the big 4 will be available within reach.

KC gets Toney. I've been on that for a minute. If I'm KC I'm looking at a new target for Mahomes every other year with my first or second pick. He's too much by himself. Put Kelce, Hill etc around him and you're hoping to get lucky when playing them.

Also two guys on the PTP list. Pretty much on the same page in terms of value with Dane. Waddle is an obvious one but glad to see Onwuzrike show up where he did.

yeah i agree. If Thuney goes we need a starting caliber LG or RT and move Onwenu to LG. I think we might want to get a more athletic type on the left side, so Onwenu probably stays there. Mayfield in rd3 would be insane. Highly doubt that he lasts this long. Would you move Onwenu to LG or let him stay at RT? Without thinking of who is available in which rd

Thats why i hope for paye :D

Yeah that's right. i always wondered where teams line up their top pass rushers on obv passing downs. I mean the RT is more often the more run blocking dude who isn't as good in pass pro as the LT, so i thought it makes sense to let your best rusher face the RT. Some Teams as you mentioned have of course good rushers on both sides so it doesn't matter your RT needs to be solid in pass pro. I like our way sometimes when we pull thuney to the right side for run or pass blocking. That can help Onwenu as he can block more on the inside there.

I can't unfortunately look at the mock draft. Can you copy the list?

I'm definitely trying Onwenu at RT first and second hoping I can pair him next to Shaq.

Jacksonville Jaguars — Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson
Regardless of the head coach or general manager, Lawrence is the guy at No. 1. While I wouldn’t put the “generational quarterback” label on him, he is a generational talent with his combination of size, mobility, arm talent, processing speed and intangibles.

2. New York Jets — Zach Wilson, QB, BYU
This is where the intrigue really starts. Should the Jets keep Darnold and build up the roster (either by drafting Oregon’s Penei Sewell or by trading back)? Or should they start fresh with a new quarterback? And if so, which one? Wilson’s accuracy and off-platform playmaking skills are why several around the league think he is the favorite at No. 2.

3. Miami Dolphins (from Houston Texans) — DeVonta Smith, WR, Alabama
The Dolphins are proceeding with Tua Tagovailoa as their starting quarterback and they should have their sights set on getting him help. To take the next step in his development, Tagovailoa needs to learn the difference between “college open” and “NFL open” and reuniting him with Smith, who has elite ball skills and separation quickness, would speed up that learning curve.

4. Atlanta Falcons — Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State
Similar to when the Chiefs drafted Patrick Mahomes in the top 10 with an entrenched starter already on their roster, the Falcons have an opportunity to secure the future of the position with this pick. Matt Ryan has a complicated contract, but he is still a starting-level quarterback, and that would allow Atlanta to have patience with Fields before examining trade scenarios for Ryan.

5. Cincinnati Bengals — Penei Sewell, OT, Oregon
The Bengals (and Joe Burrow) might be on pins and needles at No. 5, hoping Sewell gets past the Jets, Dolphins and Falcons. Sewell isn’t the flawless prospect some make him out to be, but he is still an outstanding player with his big-man balance and flexibility — and he doesn’t turn 21 until October.

6. Philadelphia Eagles — Ja’Marr Chase, WR, LSU
Regardless of their quarterback situation, the Eagles need more firepower on offense. Chase, whose 84 catches last season were for 1,780 yards and 20 touchdowns, both SEC records, has the gear-changing acceleration and elite finishing skills that make him an immediate NFL weapon.

7. Detroit Lions — Micah Parsons, LB, Penn State
The Lions could be in the wide receiver market with this pick, but they also need difference-makers on defense. Although maturity concerns will follow him into the NFL, Parsons has a freaky combination of height, weight and speed, along with the skills to be a three-down player.

8. Carolina Panthers — Trey Lance, QB, North Dakota State
The Panthers need to upgrade at quarterback. It will just come down to how they feel about those in the draft. The concerns with Lance are obvious (he has only made 17 starts, all against FCS competition), but his talent, work ethic and college production are strong selling points. And with Teddy Bridgewater and P.J. Walker under contract, Carolina won’t need to rush Lance’s development.

9. Denver Broncos — Caleb Farley, CB, Virginia Tech
If one of the top four quarterback prospects is still on the board, the Broncos will have an interesting decision to make. But the defense needs upgrades at every level, including at cornerback. Although he is still learning the position, Farley has a Pro Bowl ceiling due to his athleticism, length and natural ball instincts.

10. Dallas Cowboys — Rashawn Slater, OT, Northwestern
Many fans will disapprove of any pick that isn’t a defensive player, but the Cowboys’ offensive line woes were a constant theme all season. Not only does Slater have NFL-ready talent, he offers the versatility to play tackle or guard, giving the Cowboys much-needed flexibility.

11. New York Giants — Kyle Pitts, WR/TE, Florida
One of the priorities for Dave Gettleman this offseason will be to get his quarterback more weapons. Yes, Evan Engram was named a Pro Bowler, but he is entering a contract year and Pitts can play tight end or wide receiver and create mismatches with his size, athleticism and ball skills.

12. San Francisco 49ers — Patrick Surtain II, CB, Alabama
The 49ers don’t have any cornerbacks under contract for next season so saying cornerback is a need is an understatement. And in this scenario, need matches talent with Surtain, who might not have elite speed or twitch but has NFL-ready cover skills and instincts.

I'll put the rest when @Ian isn't looking. Don't want to copy too so he doesn't get in trouble but I believe I can do this ...
