Official Post Game Thread- Rams beat the Pats

2018 was not a strong year. We won the SB but it was basically us looking mediocre most of the season, showing defensive prowess towards the end and then Brady and Gronk clicked vs SD and KD. It really wasn't surprising that it was the last gasp of our greatness and the bottom fell out the next year.

And either way that has no real tangible correllation to how personnell decisions made those those two years caused serious problems and ramifications for where we are now. The drafts fromm 08-13 basically set up the 14-17 run. The mediocrity in off seasons and drafts from 17-19 got us here.
Winning the super bowl was not a strong year. Wow you are an embarrassment.

Exactly. He could get Cam for a million so he took him off the scrap heap on June 28. Are you seriously saying Bill did not punt on this season when he said he did not try to improve the team???
He never said that.

Love that fourth down and goal play call where Fig Newton sort of ran to the left, sort of faked a throw and was dropped for a three yard loss and never made a step towards the end zone. Great call McDaniels.

In light of Cam's poor decision making tonight I can no longer allow him to be my avatar pic. Please welcome my "toast to 2020" avatar..

“2018 was not a strong year. We won the SB but”... smh.
1. Okay what does winning the SB have to do with draft and FA decisions from that year hurting us? It doesn't

2. Were the 2018 Patriots a superior team to the 2007, 2010, 2015 or 2017 Patriots because they won the SB and those teams didn't? Would you give the 2018 better odds to beat all those teams? I doubt it. Sometimes a team can win a SB without being super dominant. Not all SB teams are equal. You would think a team that has been to 9 of them would have fans that get that.... again not that it has anything to do with free agency decisions from that year hurting the team

He never said that.
From his interview with Weiss at the beginning of the season:

While Belichick admitted that the cap caught up to the Patriots this season, he sees this as a one-year period to reset their salary cap for the future.

“Again, because of our cap situation — in this particular year, this is kind of the year that we’ve taken to, I would say, adjust our cap from the spending that we’ve had in accumulation of previous years,” Belichick said. “We just haven’t been able to have the kind of depth on our roster that we’ve had in some other years."

Are you kidding me? You value the perception of being good over actually winning?
You can’t be serious and must be trying to come up with anything you can think of to avoid admitting you are wrong but we all know that you know you are and don’t have the ability to admit it, so you should just stop.

That isnt even in the galaxy of what you claimed

I don’t think Josh thought it’d go that way, to be fair.
That was one of the worst 4th down and goal plays I've ever seen.

Good heavens. He said it is a reset, he has no cap therefore no depth added. He did not improve the team. He punted on the season to reset the cap.

I'm at loss as to why BB keeps going with newton
Because Bill Belichick does not have the luxury of making decisions for how he fields this team by the wishful thinking that many of the posters on here like to use to feel better about the team. He doesn't get to just go "oh I'm unhappy that we lost Brady and the best we could get was Cam so I'm just going to talk myself into pretending that the guy on the bench that has done absolutely nothing MUST be better because I'm not happy with my starter and it would really be conveniant if what all my common sense was telling me was wrong and he really was good and I'm just missing it".

He knows what he is working with. Far better than anybody here. Maybe people should take the hint. He's given you plenty. He didn't let Cam who he had no connection to prior literally leap frog Stidham and become starter and team captain for no reason. He didn't put Stidham third on the depth chart for no reason. He didn't keep going back to Cam and only putting Stidham in when he wanted to spare Cam and Hoyer an embarassment for no reason.

He knows what he has in Stidham and he made his decision on him. He doesn't feel the need to test him out as a starter to be "sure". He's been around long enough to be able to evaluate a guy that's he's seen in every practice for two years and has seen in multiple game situations.

Every play call isn’t going to work. That play has been successful. I thought 3 there was the better decision but since we couldn’t sniff the end zone it didn’t really matter.

He had no cap room. He made many moves to improve the team within the cap space he had.
There was no choice involved he is speaking about what he was stuck with. My god.

I "value the pereption of being good over actually winning". That's what you got out of that? You know we have the GOAT coach right? You know we've had some teams that beat much more talented teams because of that right? Winning and having a good team that is going to be a good starting point for the future are two different things. In regards to winning the SB, the 2018 team did and that's all that matters in that regard. In regards to where we are now and years prior, yes there were missteps that happened in 2018 and some redflags that signaled where we were heading the next two years.

This isn't complicatd stuff. Some people really do struggle deeply with nuance and context

Not much to say after this game. We were outplayed by a better team. We didn't play well at all and got crushed. The Rams are a talented team and they really handed it to us. Both lines were dominated. Not much else to say.

Some bright spots:

Gunner
Bailey
That's pretty much it.

Let's discuss
I don't know what to think about our young players yet. Besides Harris are they for real? That is all I'm worried about right now. Seeing how our young guys step up. Hopefully no injuries too. This is a brutal stretch they're playing.
