Can we finally stop pretending that Cam is good?

I know many of us already agree on this. But there seems to be this faction of our fanbase/media that defends him at every corner, basically makmental gymnastics to try and justify why he’s not playing well.

His throwing mechanics are terrible.
His mechanics have eroded so badly that it makes him look like he’s about to throw his shoulder out of its socket every time he throws the ball. He was never the most well polished in regards to this, but could make it up with his physical style. He’s just not that guy anymore and really hasn’t been that guy since 2017 for the most part, aside from those rare glimpses of him being healthy.

Let’s stop this nonsense about how we should be giving him an extension, or even entertaining the idea of bringing him back at this point. This style of football is not sustainable in 2020. It’s not 1973. We can’t do another year of this. He won’t magically get healthy for a full season. He is done.

Ditto with Brian Hoyer. Let’s look elsewhere at QB. Please.

He hasn’t been good in a long time.

Who’s pretending? He’s not good.
I’m just hoping we’re all finally in unison in agreeing on this. There have been some holdouts on this board.

I’m surprised that Bill doesn’t seem ready to admit it.

Yeah, I don’t want to see Cam after this season. I appreciate his effort, but we need someone who can throw the ball. I could see Cam being a decent backup for the Ravens. I’d rather try another reclamation project or other scenarios.

What idiot thought he was good ? The real debate is this:
Is cam Newton the worst football player to start 10+ games for the patriots in the belichick era?
I say yes.

But he's great in the locker room !!!!!!!!!!!!
LMFAO

There's a huge difference between saying he's good and saying that he clearly isn't the answer but everyone else on the team is garbage and at least he can do some things in the run game and is a vet to justify him starting over worse players.

Get rid of Fig Newton. He's a retread that's past his prime (and his prime was four + years ago).

There has been lots of pretending going on this season. The fanbase and Belichick are used to winning, so such a shocking decline makes many of us cling to delusions. One delusion is that Cam is going to become a solid quarterback or there is something there with Stidham. Another is that this roster is headed in a positive direction with the current talent. And finally, there is the delusion that free agents can solve our problems so let's invest years of cap money on "sure things."

Yes, we have a few good pieces. But most of the roster is past its prime and overpriced free agents will just extend a slow decline. There is no magical solution other than being ruthless with trimming the roster and loading up on picks. If we can go young and cheap, the turnaround will be much quicker than sliding into a rut where we make the playoffs some seasons but can't compete for championships against top clubs.

We're in a conference with Mahomes. Even with Brady, Mahomes is a beast that would be difficult to overcome. So, if our goal is winning a title rather than looking pretty solid every season, we need to swing for the fences through drafts rather than settle on a JAG at quarterback.
