N'Keal Harry (lack of) Progress Report

In all honesty, I would really like for Belichick to explain his logic behind drafting Harry. This is not an attempt to embarrass him or anything, but the logic of drafting Harry above all the other superstar receivers might explain why our process is broken. Looking at Harry, the guy doesn't have speed, athleticism, instinct, hands or route running. You can get away not having one of those attributes and still be good in the NFL, but you can't have none of them. So when BB says he really likes Harry, what exactly did he like? What did he see that made him think this guy was ever going to be a high quality NFL receiver? I guess he's tall, but 6'2 is hardly gigantic for an NFL receiver too. Something is really weird with the way our WR scouting process is being run and we really need to get to the bottom of it. If the issue is, BB just wants to "coach players he wants to coach", then someone else should run the draft for us, period. BB can go hire all his friends when he owns his own team.

Josh McDaniels is the worst talent evaluator in the entire league. NKeal Harry, Sony, Laurence Maroney, Chad Jackson are all on this schmuck. Belichick doesn't know either but he listens to his staff. When O'Brien and Reese were here we at least drafted and developed Edelman, Gronk, Hernandez. When Weiss and Pioli and Dimitroff were here we drafted and developed Branch and Givens.
Zero coincidence we have developed nobody and also busted picks from 05-08 and 2012-now while Josh McDaniels has been here.

"When McDaniels and Caserio were tasked with scouting New England's opposing receivers and corners, they took it further, creating a formula for size, speed, ball skills, scheme and assignments. Then they developed a ranking system based on the Patriots' personnel and playbook. Impressed, Belichick ditched his manual for scouting receivers and corners, replacing it with what he'd learned."

Meyers and Byrd over harry. Harry can pump himself all he wants but the guy has been a total bust! His time is running out. He needs to start showing you something soon.
Maybe he’ll make a new Instagram post of him working out. That would be inspirational.

"Biggest bust: As revealed in Michael Holley's War Room, the Patriots scouts clearly regret the fact that Ben McDaniels' experience with Maroney in Minnesota was allowed to overrule their concerns"

"
If the report is true, this would not be the first time Belichick has overruled the opinions of his scouts on a player, and in the past, it was also a result of the opinion of one of the coaches within Belichick's circle.

He ignored the opinions of his scouts with regard to Florida wide receiver Chad Jackson and Minnesota running back Laurence Maroney in the 2006 draft (according to Michael Holley in War Room). Holley explains that Josh McDaniels' brother, Ben, was a member of the Minnesota coaching staff and gave a great review of Maroney"

I have a feeling harry would do good on teams with very efficient quarterbacks...
Seattle, chiefs and packers come into mind. He might be able to win the one on one as a 3rd receiver. So if we decide to cut him, these 3 teams could get a productive player on the cheap...

Cam needs receivers with 3 yard separation...That's his limitation.

Harry defly needs to share a large part of the blame but believe he might thrive in a different system.

I don’t see it. You’re what you are. Name a wideout that did badly here and went on to thrive somewhere else. I’m trying to think of one.

I think you're overrating O'Brien's influence on Gronk and Hernandez. Both were studs in college. Gronk's stock fell due to his season ending back surgery. Hernandez's stock fell because of his height and his off the field troubles. Hernandez was a stud day one here and Gronk came along slowly as he got back into football shape but you saw the talent.

Now Reese on the other hand, his loss was massive. Since he left, not one Pro Bowler/All Pro has been drafted (2013-present)

Since so many people like these goofy little charts from Twitter to confirm what anyone who watches the game already knows.

Perfect example of a play Brady would've laughed at him in disgust last year. Harry seems like an idiot and the massive red flag for me was draft night when he didn't realize he had a bad connection repeating "Hello, hello, hello" and kept hanging up on BB before finally walking outside.

The media thought it was sooo cute, but that would alarm me as the guy who just drafted him.

Irving Fryar is the best I can do, but that was obviously a completely different era. And he wasn't even that bad with the Pats . . . just a bit of an underachiever.

If only the Pats ever had an efficient QB during Harry’s tenure

Not of my time but boy i notice he was drafted first overall. The first 6 seasons where terrible. Amazing to think that Keyshawn Johnson and Fryar are the only wideouts to go first overall ever. The first 6 seasons where not as good. Late bloomer had 5 1000 yard seasons at 29 and over. Had a better career than Keyshawn.

Not sure what the problem is, but the problem is certainly not unique to the Patriots. Look at the Ravens for example. Successful franchise with good talent evaluators, but they have arguably drafted just ONE decent WR (Torrey Smith) in the entire history of the franchise. And they drafted Inglewood Brown even earlier in the first round than Harry, ahead of all the 2nd round studs that we also passed on.

I know what you are alluding to .. but the point is he might be a 50-50 guy in red zone and with someone like mahomes or wilson he might thrive better. Just a thought... We did have a great passer in Brady who rightfully did not look his way Last year.

Just feel like he might thrive better in Seattle or chiefs...
