Rivers waived

Point #1 - what an amazingly lazy and short-sighted take. TB made TB. Bill has said this himself about his high football IQ, relentless film study and maniac obsession with keeping his body in prime shape to withstand the rigors of the football season year after year into his 40s. Bill may have given him the Xs and Os but it was Brady that put that into action on the field in the highest pressure situations leading come back after come back in the playoffs culminating in SIX game winning drives to win all SIX SBs. Would have been 9 for 9 if Bill's defense did not crap the bed twice against Eli and if he didn't bench Butler vs the Eagles.

Point #2 - TB effected everything because he plays the position that effects the outcomes of games the most. He also took less money so Bill could sign players like Revis and Browner and Gilmore given him unprecedented flexibility as a GM with the GOAT QB who never came close to being paid like an elite QB much less the best QB in the game.

The cap situation is Bill's fault. The cap didn't happen to him, he created it by his awful drafts and inability to have any sort of succession play at QB.

Pretty sure I will take the better record and playoffs over moral victories but then again that pretty much seems to be the theme this year for the Pats. But, but, but look how hard we tried!

Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Did I mention, WRONG. Gumby's statement is extremely well thought out. YOUR's is was is lazy and short-sighted. From the draft to the Salary cap. Your claims about the 3 lost SBs are ignorant and completely wrong to boot..

The Patriots CLEARLY didn't like the 2017 Draft. Which is why they only drafted 4 players from it. The 2016, 2018 and 2019 drafts were actually pretty successful. Claiming otherwise is saying you haven't been paying attention to the team.

Your claim that Bill didn't have a succession play at QB is also laughable since it's been clear to people that they LIKE Stidham. Just that he needs seasoning behind a better QB. That's why Newton was brought in. And Newton was brought in LATE because he was rehabbing from an injury. It was pretty clear that was Bill's intent after Brady walked. He certainly wasn't going to drop $20+M on the likes of Philip Rivers or any of the other Free Agents when he wouldn't commit that sort of money to Brady.

Was rivers in the wrong system?

he just never seemed to fit what we do on defense,

I wish him the best going forward and I think he can have success in a true 4-3 defense. His agent should call Seattle, the Vikings, Philly, San Fran or Arizona. He should fit their system much better,

I'd still rather have Rivers than Tashawn Bower...That feckin guy is beyond Terrible...We have needed reinforcements at DE since Bill & Bielenema mis-used Michael Bennett...Wino has helped, but we still need more...Thanks a lot FO...

Nah. I think he’s just injury-prone and stinks in general.

Should we keep winovich in the second level of the defense and off the defensive line?

Rivers and Flowers were both high risk, high reward picks with first year injuries. Flowers worked out and Rivers did not.

Their last names are also both names of wildly occurring objects and both end in -ers.
How was a 4th rounder a high risk/high reward pick? The difference between the two was that Rivers was their top selection and Flowers was one among many 2015 draft picks. In fact, Grissom was picked before him so Flowers was a luxury pick.

Possibly, but he may have lost any ability he had. I never really saw him being cut loose.

Yes.

We havent had a good defense in a long time and last years defense picked the wrong half of the season to be good
So being the #1 defense in the nfl doesn’t qualify as good? Winning a Sb allowing 3 points doesn’t qualify as good? Since the day bb arrived the patriots have allowed the 2nd fewest points of all nfl teams. That sounds, umm, good. Do you have any clue whatsoever what you are talking about?

They were picked 18 picks apart.

Yeah you're being a bit obtuse here.

I love TB and he is absolutely the greatest QB I've ever seen play the game but he needed Bill. They needed each other to accomplish what they did. It was, by far, the greatest HC/QB relationship in NFL history. It's not even close. Nine Super Bowl appearances and Six wins? Give me a break. Trying to divy up the credit is getting ridiculous. That it worked for twenty years to our benefit is all that matters.

Good luck to the both of them.

BB has multiple defensive game plans in the HOF from my recollection. If not he should have. The point being is that the Patriots have had some incredible defensive performances over the last twenty years and Brady had nothing to do with them other than benefiting from them.

Yes Brady took less money but that equated to possibly one extra middle tier player on the roster per year and that additional money didn't add up to a Revis contract. The Revis addition was a possibility because of BBs cap management overall.

Anyway, there's no need to blame or claim anything for either BB or TB. Just be thankful that we have had the best twenty year run of any fanbase of any sport.
Remember when Brady made that pick six in SB 36 against HOFer Kurt Warner?

Oh, wait.

I think two years ago our defense was pretty good, held the Rams to 3 points in the Super Bowl. I know one game, but they came up big then.
They also had hell of a first half in KC. Should've been up more than "just" 14-0 at half, in part because of Brady throwing an end zone INT from the 1 yard line at 3rd and 1.

I'll say this one last time, slowly:
Manning, Rogers, Brees...2, 1, 1 rings.

Great quarterbacks with great offenses and shyte defenses.
On any other team Brady gets 1 maybe 2 rings.

Quote stats all day. The only one that matters is points allowed.

It was a symbiotic relationship.
I agree one of Brady's greatest traits was not holding out for max money, allowing BB to build a better team.
He also did more with less than the above 3 and made the O-line look better with his quick release and processing.

With the 83rd pick of the 2017 the Patriots pick Derek Rivers..

In the two years he was "healthy" he was involved in 164 snaps.. injuries were always an issue.

BB knows when to walk away..

He should have walked away at the draft.

It sucks, but he’s kind of old news at this point, may as well give more time for the younger guys who seem to have potential. Winovich-Uche-Jennings has me tentatively excited.

this will be Rivers break about game I know it!

huh? what? Oops, my bad, Nevermind
