It's easy, and only takes a few moments.Depending on how the rest of the season goes I wouldn't hate re-signing him in the $7.5-12.5M range...tops...IF he finishes healthy, more fundamentally sound & less clueless than he was after the bye/coronavirus break...This next game is more important for him than it is for us really...Tom e Curran said there is a possibility cam newton is back. He isn't going to command a high salary.
Assuming the patriots dont go out and sign someone like Jimmy G they could get him back for 10-15million as a bridge type deal and draft a QB high.
While his performance hasn't been there it seems he has been a great teammate and mentor to young guys like meyers
Curran is doing some really bad drugs.
we need to move Newton along just like the rest of the garbage that we normally move along.
Cam has crashed and Cam has flashed.....and I definitely believe he can be more successful the longer has stays in the system, and most importantly, if the team can expand his target options.Depending on how the rest of the season goes I wouldn't hate re-signing him in the $7.5-12.5M range...tops...IF he finishes healthy, more fundamentally sound & less clueless than he was after the bye/coronavirus break...This next game is more important for him than it is for us really...
I'm still undecided on Cam. He has done some good things and some bad things. He has a great attitude. Can he keep that up? His mechanics have been awful but against the Jets there appeared to me to only be a couple of "OMG"s. But against the Jets they ran a Patriots offense not a Cam offense like they had been running previously. Now was this game a one off? Beats me. Suddenly I'm ready to take a second look at his future performances. If he continues to play that brand of football he might be the guy for next year. Yes, we should still draft a developmental QB (also known as crapshoot, regardless of how high the pick) but is there anyone else we might get better than Cam might be? Personally I would like Teddy Bridgewater but pretty sure he is a keeper in Carolina. BB is not going to pay someone like Dak Prescott or Matt Stafford, Matt Ryan, Deshaun Watson or any other of that ilk. Even Jimmy G, who I like will be to rich for BB's blood. Sure don't think Andy Dalton or Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota are better than Cam. Still haven't given up on Stidham but! So I'm watching the rest of the year and hoping Cam can be the man. Not because I'm a big Cam fan but because I'm a big Pats fan and want the best for the team.
I agree that top backups may cost a bit less than this year. What were this year's prices? The way Cam has been playing, his market next season should be as a top backup. I think we could easily be buyers in such a market.

I think if Newton is retained he would be unlikely to be a backup.I think Mariota and Taysom Hill were the most expensive backups to get new contracts in 2020, and they were in the $8-10M/year range. Not sure if I would want Newton back for quite that much though. I don't think I would pay anyone that much to be a backup.
Probably they will be to expensive but Darnold might be a possibility. Probably not a good thing Josh McKown is one of the more attractive on this list along with Fitzy.FA QB's for 2021:

Not a whole lot there unless you want to take a shot at a 29 year old Dak if he's healthy and the Cowboys move on. Or Winston if you want to build an offense for him.
2022 looks a lot more interesting. Ben, Brees, Brady won't come here. But then you have guys like Mayfield, Darnold, Allen, Lamar. Say what you want about Darnold, his team blows and might benefit from a change in scenery.
I would like Darnold but I have a feeling we would have to pay extra to get him. If everyone else is offering a three we have to offer at least a two. No way the Jets want to see him come here and turn into a star.Probably they will be to expensive but Darnold might be a possibility. I presume you are suggesting that we will succeed by choosing to get our receivers in the draft.id still be up for an extension at the right price and heavy incentives. Still half a season to go but if he duplicates the first half hes a capable starter, and this is with jacoby myers and byrd his only recieving targets. This is probably the worst receiving set weve had in the bb era and hes helped the offense look formidable in every game but the 2 post covid . In the meantime we can look for options through the draft.

I didn't see his name on that list, but I wouldn't mind if McD & Fisch take a look at Josh Rosen if he becomes available...There might still be something there...Probably they will be to expensive but Darnold might be a possibility.
