Yes. Yes they are. The NFLPA should be going ballistic. I guess they don't carte about player safety, either.
It isn't going to stop with Cam & the Patriots but more cases will crop up and the league's apparent plan to abandon player (and staff) safety and just bulldoze through will fail. Sending Pats & Chiefs to play Monday night is incredibly risky to me. There is a strong likelihood that at least a few people are infected and it may take a few days to test positive.

League may have bigger problem on their hands than the Pats/Chiefs game.

Of course they do. Yeah it’s the closest contact sport there is so no surprise there. Season should have been cancelled. I imagine CFB is next on the docket.
I've been saying that from the beginning. It just isn't feasible. Even though baseball was terrible with it at least there are less players and more space between. These guys are breathing and jumping on each other in piles and crowded on the sidelines. It's not going to work.

There was no such plan

The number of teams contracting COVID is about in line with the uncontrolled levels of spread that were happening in hotspots like NY, FL, TX, CA, etc. Unless there is a meaningful change, expecting maybe double that number by the end of the week. Even with a change, it'll happen to more teams.

Just our luck that it's at the most important position, going into the best yardstick test we were going to have all year.

Actually losing Cam against the Chiefs isn't the worst thing. That game has pretty much been marked as a loss with Cam or without him. It's better than losing him for an actual important game later on.

Of course that assumes that the season will carry on to its conclusion which is doubtful.

There’s a lot of pessimism here. But, if the Patriots emerge from this with just Newton testing positive, it would speak volumes about the effectiveness of the protocols they’ve established as well as how those protocols are being practiced.

“If” can be the biggest word. But, to me, it would be very encouraging to see that a team’s starting QB could unknowingly be carrying the virus for several days interacting with his teammates, coaches, and staff within those protocols and not pass the virus on to others.

It's almost as if... Humans, as living organisms, do not have the exact knowledge to fight a global pandemic in the modern era.

Most living organisms in the world don't worry about money, attending social events or watch sports on electronic mobile devices (in the good old days, it would just be TV LOL)...

Honestly, I would of been surprised when I found out that the NFL was going on with the season if they made it through the whole season without having to shut down (pleasantly surprised though).

Agree, I never thought the NFL would make it to the first game of the season, surprised that it made it to week #4.. now there is a lot of uncertainty if it will continue, many of these players have young families and to bring this into their homes might prove to be a deal breaker to continue playing..

Was going to post something similar. We are all real time witnessing two small workplaces that handled it very differently (WH/campaign and Pats), with the Pats at a massive disadvantage due to the nature of their vocation requiring physical contact and proximity. If the Pats come out of this without a significant disease spread, then wow, I'm impressed.

I get the dig, and I certainly appreciate it, but there is no getting the coronavirus (mod note: don't use that term again, please) right.

The NBA did it right. For a sport the complexity and contact levels of football, getting it right probably means not playing.

The average career for these guys is less than 50 "game checks." That means half of them have fewer than that. They'll leave the NFL with just enough money to buy a house for themselves, take care of their parents, and fund a retirement plan, not much more. And most then go on to fairly low paying jobs.

All that to say that there is a probably a lot of desire not to miss game checks for most of the players on the roster.

Roger Goodell. Not a science guy.

Yes. Viruses need time to replicate. If I got infected six hours ago I can still test negative. This is the same organization that spent millions on deflategate because parity. But now they will allow some teams to have fans fans, some empty stadiums. Some teams to fly in same day. It's a crapfest goodell is the turd god.

You would think with what happened with the Titans the NFL would postpone this game. Their players tested negative too. But because of the incubation period they tested negative for a series of days. This is why they tell people to quarantine if they have come in contact.

Cam newton was with players and coaches all week. Schefter said he was close with players in the huddle. Now they gonna stick everyone on a plate to KC. I have a bad feeling how this is going to play out.

NFL needs to just move this game. To later in the season. I mean no one wants to see the chiefs destroy Hoyer's at QB anyway
