Official Post Game Thread - Seattle beats the Pats

Overall, a great game. Sucks to not get the running game going at all. The Patriots had about 4-5 offensive plays that were complete head scratchers and I feel they were the difference between winning and losing. Other than those few plays, the offensive game plan was really good. The last play...ugh, I had a bad feeling about it...too predictable. I would have preferred a run pass option.. Give Cam a second to make a decision, but he had a really great game.

The defense had a rough time of it, 2 of those TDs were just unstoppable - those guys get paid too. I feel good about the season. This season is essentially gravy as far as I am concerned. I was very entertained last night.

it was not on Sony tonight. He had 7 carries for 19 yards but the rest of te RB got 7 carries for 1 yards! The RB group had 14 carries for 20 yards. When it is that bad it is not on one player.

It is not like every running back average 4 yards a carry and Sony 2

Its never on Sony.

Weve seen this movie before. Sony cant gain traction and James White comes in a rips off yards running the exact same plays with the exact same OL. Sony and his 2.7 yards a carry dont cut it. Put JJ Taylor in who is fighting every day to stay on the team.

Regarding the final play, I think running it was fine. Only, should have perhaps mixed it up a bit. Even without hindsight it's not impossible to predict that the Seahawks would crash to their right (or the left side of the offense) after both of Cam's rushing TDs came off the left. As Cam noted in the post-game, outside the RT it was wide open.

Just curious, what play call did you want them to call?

Out of the gun in trips right, roll right strong with the option to run or pass. I was surprised JM went back to the same play.

When Brady was in his prime and Cam came in the league, I wanted Brady over Cam every year...even when Cam took the panthers to the Super Bowl on his back. I'm a homer...but...I was always WRONG about Cam Newton. He IS a spectacular NFL QB still. Just hope he stays healthy.

At the time his MVP year was considered the greatest single year by any QB because he combined gaudy throwing stats with unreal running stats.

The Seattle D is not great, they allow last week like 500 yards too. Even with this production, they scored only 23 points on O. Will Edelman catch for 180 yards every game?

Definitely have to keep this in mind. They did not rush the passer well. We'll see much better fronts.

That, or, the addition of a healthy Wynn, healthy Mason, healthy Andrews, and a kid who is learning in Jermaine, has given us the best O-Line around.

The way Wilson completed those two deep TDs reminded me a lot of Nick Foles in the SB. Just perfectly thrown balls that landed exactly in the right spot. How do you defend the Metcalf and Moore TD any better ?

According to next gen stats Gilmore was right there with Metcalf through the entire route.

The ball landed right where it needed to be.

The throw to Moore was more impressive. That was whipped in there and he only adjusted a little bit (had to turn around).

The throw to Metcalf was a beautiful heave but you have to give Metcalf a lot of credit for adjusting to the ball, slowing down just enough to catch it in stride.

Jarret Stidham wasn't throwing the ball last night

It was a tough hard fought game as expected. But they caught a bunch of breaks.

The pick 6 was a gimme, and Seattle lost players in the defensive backfield.

The Pats showed a lot of heart and fight. Harry was the biggest bright spot. They need that production.

Surprised the running game looked so flat.

Cam and Wilson played well and it was a great effort by the team. I think Patriots lack of; speed at the LB; ability to stop the run on the edge; not being able to stop Wilson in the back of the line and not effectively blitz did them in yesterday.

Good preview of the KC and Baltimore games. Would rather lose last night to an NFC team than those two teams.

Hopefully scheme can make up for being short handed in the LB corps

Shoutout to everybody who doubted Cam when he initially got to NE. We told you guys that he’s an accurate passer & that his 2015/2018 seasons weren’t fluke. Difference is, he played in two different systems and was asked to do different things. Once Norv Turner arrived/pre-Watt injury, Cam was Balling! But anyway, shoutout to those haters on this board; they know who they are...

Lots of encouraging things to take away from last night's game. The most important of which is the grinding mentality. This team still has the grind mentality which above anything else is what you need to get anywhere in the playoffs.

I am very encouraged by what I saw last night. For someone who has basically missed a year, Cam seems to have improved substantially.

Exact same play McD called earlier in the game, SS power read, but Seattle was waiting for it. They were all over it. See the DE set the edge and force the keep which made this play one dimensional.

We basically lost the game on one poor choice of a play call. Otherwise, a lot of encouraging things to take away from this game.

I would have called a rollout option right with 3 receivers right but that might have been a TD if Onwenu and Johnson aren’t beaten on the play. Young players, bad blocks. It happens.

I mean the slowdown was pretty subtle, Gilmore was so tight in coverage that if there would have been any substantial adjustment by Metcalf it would have most probably ended up being DPI with Gilmore running straight into him.

To me this is like 85% Wilson and then Metcalf just running yet another deep route and waiting for the ball to drop right into him in stride.

Either way after this game nobody should take Dorsett's words about Wilson's deep ball and being at the right place as a slight against Brady. It is just a fact.

Pats didn’t have Uche or White, though. But I agree your point about the pick 6.

I like your call but am not surprised that they went back to what they felt strongest about and what had worked well in the first 7 quarters.

A limited toolkit is one of the effects if you change QB, transition your offense to incorporate more option/run concepts and lose half of the preseason (including all games) to a pandemic.

One of those things that goes underappreciated when it comes to QB/OC/HC continuity is that you can often use your limited practice time doing more work on a wider area of things because you have a certain number of fundamental plays you can run in your sleep.

The good news is that a lot of this should be less limited as the season progresses giving them more options in the future as both the coaches and players get more reps.

If this was week 15 I'd feel much worse about the call than I do in week 2.

We were pretty predictable at the goal line. Power read after power read. Should have done something completely contrary to that, such as the fake RPO where Jakob got his TD. That was the one play McD should have kept in his backpocket until the very end.

Seattle adjusted to our power read by having the DE set the edge which forces Cam to keep the ball and makes the read one dimensional. So every time a power read was coming, they knew Cam would end up with the ball and just keyed on him.
