Semi-OT: Big Ten, Pac 12 will not play football in 2020

It's their right to do so and you should respect whatever decision they make.
For some reason, the people who totally forbid us from criticizing players who opt out ("personal decision"... "not our business"... etc) feel quite comfortable criticizing players who want to play.

There's no reason to respect stupid decisions.

Yet it is absolutely a requirement by the cancel crew/culture....in that bubble "respect" is 100% non-negotiable.

So, we are the respect the right for a president of a college to make the decision for football players to risk their lives and the lives of their families. Nonsense!

You are mistaken about the chain of control.

The "president of a college" has no control over any "football players", at all...

...any and ALL "football players" have complete/100% control over the "DECISION" to "risk their lives and the lives of their families"...

...OR NOT!

Spot on.

Yes, I understand. You believe that sports are independent from the school and determine their own processes. It was the college PRESIDENTS who met when the PAC12 was making their decision with regard to whether the season would be postponed.

Complete nonsense, never suggested anything of the sort.

Can't wait till these colleges and universities come looking to Daddy Government for a bailout to counter their lost football revenue...

I was nervous about my son returning to college at Cornell, but they seem to be going to extraordinary lengths.

They wanted him to get tested before going to NY. He did (negative).

He's now in a hotel for 14 days in isolation.

Then he gets tested as soon as he gets to campus, isolates for 24 hrs, gets the result, and if negative, moves into his dorm.

He will then get tested every 1-2 weeks, with 1 day turnaround of results, from a lab set up on campus at the veterinary school.

masks are required, gatherings are banned (you pledge that you agree on both, under threat of immediate expulsion), dorms are under-capacity, big classes are online or a mix, smaller classes in person use larger rooms like auditoriums, to space people out

after Thanksgiving is all on line, to prevent travel-related spread if they were to come back.

Outbreaks wll be identified, with quarantine facilities ready to go, and contact tracers ready.

It seems like not an easy plan and Cornell has unusual resources, being an Ivy, rich endowment, with the vet school, in a very small city, sprawling campus, and amenable to a bubble-like existence.

I had my doubts last week and still do. Just to a lesser extent. That said if we get B10, SEC & ACC almost nothing will change in terms of playoffs/championship. There's 0 parody in college ball so the outcome will look quite familiar and we'll get to see a ton of blue chip talent along the way.

It hasn't even been a week and my prediction (based on the JAMA article I posted) of these southern campuses closing up after rapid spread is already coming true. UNC shuts down! First foot to drop.

If they can show their ties to Trump, the Kushners, the McConnell’s or Lady G, or just donate to the Grotesque Old Party, they will get billions, just like the last bill.

And don't forget they have a school for hotel and restaurant management on campus. . . .

Plus the gorges, if they really need isolation. :p

Mr Yacht is going all in. I want to believe but ...

Glad to see everyone is on the same page

Mr Yacht is going all in. I want to believe but ...

I don't believe for a single second "Mr. Yacht" has any sort of inside info or contacts whatsoever. He is doing what all these twitterite wanna-be's do: Taking unconfirmed rumors that something might happen (or might be considered) and acting like he had sources when all he is doing is making a prediction.

Seems pretty credible to me??

At least you’ll get some SEC football coming in a few weeks. Shame they aren’t playing an actual college season this year because the Gators would have had a great shot to get into the playoff. I’m actually looking forward to the old SEC schedule again. We get LSU right away.

What he does is take reports that other people break and put them on his twitter feed. It is actually not all that different from how Florio became famous.

This has been my feeling the entire time. As long as I get some, real college ball it won't be the end of the world.
