How do you **** it up this badly?

2. He's doing this as a passive aggressive statement, expressing his resentment at the world, like a 2 year old who doesn't want to go to bed.
I disagree. It took the Rams 2+ years to develop their new logo, and that was just a minor change to an already-existing logo (and using the same team name).

I just don’t think it would have been feasible to have a new name and logos in place in just 2 months.

They were going to get roasted by the Twitter mob no matter what they did. They pick a logo and it would get mocked no matter what. They use the "Washington Football Team" placeholder and it is Snyder throwing a fit. This was a lose lose situation. They got forced into changing their name a month before players report to camp and they were supposed to have some amazing logo and uniforms all mocked up instantly? This isn't Madden where you can create your own uniforms and pick a new logo and boom it's all done. It is a major rebranding for a billion dollar business.

I nominate them to be called the Washington "Human Beings". Anybody who watched the show "Community" understands the joke. The school didn't want to offend anyone so they went the safe route. Here's their mascot.

Community was awesome. Perfectly silly sitcom but also well thought out. This being a good example.

I expected Snyder to send a bigger FU, like rolling out the name Red Skins and using a potato as the mascot.

I like it. I hope they don't change it. It's got panache. More so than most team names fashioned out of some idiotic marketing moron's head. It sounds tough and no nonsense.

Plus you have to triple-check everything to make sure its not potentially racist or offensive to some group of people.

Case in point...

I expected Snyder to send a bigger FU, like rolling out the name Red Skins and using a potato as the mascot.

This may be the best name suggestion

First they came for the Redskins, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Redskins fan.

Then they came for the Chiefs, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Chiefs fan.

Then they came for the Saints, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Saints fan.

Then they came for the Patriots and there was no one left to speak for us.

I'm with The Boston Patriot above, I don't hate it and in fact I kind of like it. Given the amount of agitation about nicknames at this point, I'm finding myself gravitating towards believing its better to simply forgo nicknames. Isn't that what is done in Europe, for example, for professional soccer?

I think we’re missing a great opportunity here. I don’t care about the name change either way. But there are great lessons to be learned that aren’t being discussed.

Native Americans played a huge role in the early development of American football. It was the University of Carlisle that first utilized and popularized the forward pass. Native Americans played a huge role in the early years of the NFL.

I’m not a scholar on the subject so I’m not going to go on a long rant. But how many young people have even heard of Carlisle? Or Jim Thorpe? Or Native Americans’ influence on this sport? Why don’t we discuss this and use it to segue to the current problems that Native Americans face today especially on reservations. That seems to me to be much more important than the name “Redskins”.

Yeah, instead, you get the "Rakuten" team, the "Etihad" team, and so on.

In truth, the nicknames can be fun...but people don't like having fun these days...or rather, people find being outraged to be fun. Those people should try sex and see how it goes.

Well done, the slippery slope gambit is probably the best way to try to salvage a losing argument.

Yeah man for sure, Dan Snyder changing his team's name due to public pressure when he runs a public facing business, that's like totally like basically like a friggin holocaust man.

Fear not! There is nothing stopping a morbidly obese fan of the team from wearing a full dress, gloves, a sunhat, a purse and a pig nose to the game. We are not deep enough into the era of ****oldry, which is upon us!, for that to be the case.

2020 says hi.

The slippery slope has become an avalanche.
