NFL.COM Patriots set to collapse, One of worst 3 teams in the league

The absolute worst case scenario for this team with this coach is 7-9. We're too talented in too many areas for less, and if Stidham is really struggling Coach Bill WILL find a trade that will bring our season under control.
Easier said than done. If Stidham struggles, it’s Hoyer time. You aren’t going to be able to trade for anything but a backup caliber QB, so why bother....

agreed but...we're not even into June workouts yet...still plenty of time to make a move to bolster the QB position. Signing a former starter isn't such a bad idea if the price is right.

Maybe the NFL is set to collapse. One of the worst-run leagues in sports.

You had the QB who probably makes the best reads in NFL history last year and has a history of performing well with subpar talent and he couldn’t make the offense work.

Any notions that an unknown quantity is going to come in and with the correct tweaks improve it is serious wishful thinking.

"History" is prominent in your post, for good reason. It's time to move on from the 43-year-old QB and look around the division and the league to see where the Patriots are now. Stidham will be playing with teammates who have more playoff hardware than any team in the league, and who are more than prepared to handle any situations that may arise.

And where do you see all this "known" talent in the AFC East? Starting QBs right now look like:

Tua Tagovailoa - Miami (R)
Josh Allen - Buffalo 2 years experience
Sam Darnold - Jets 2 years experience
Jarrett Stidham- Patriots 1 year experience

Which head coach would you pick to do the best job defending the other three QBs?

Outperforming a QB with a passer rating under 80 for the last 9 games of the season won't be too high of a bar to climb over.

And JS4 isn't going to run his offense anyway. This is a new team and a new offense, and I expect a lot more attention to be paid to the run.

They don’t have brady anymore. I think stidham will be up and down. I don’t know if they win 8 games this season.

79 passer rating over this last 9 games. That production shouldn't be that hard to duplicate and exceed even for Stidham.

This is a terrible argument. Tom Brady had virtually the same stats in 2013. Both teams were devoid of offensive talent.

Stidham isn’t outperforming Brady with the same roster. The one time he had a chance to he got benched

Why is it terrible? That was his passer rating over the last 9 games of the season. Also - shouldn't a guy called the GOAT be elevating the talent around him?

Stidham's garbage time debut is not a real "chance". And he didn't do any worse than Brady did in the same sample size when Brady made his debut against the Lions.

Because it’s devoid of all context. Brady had one of the worst if not the worst WR corps in the league

I absolutely love these columns. Belichick is printing them out and posting them all over the locker room as I type this post.

:) If Belichick needs to post articles to motivate players, we are in more trouble than I thought.

You think Tom hits the cliff this year?

Pats improve over the course of the season

my big thing about Brady playing for the Bucs is that he neither has the OL or OL coach that will have the OL be prepared to understand how to protect Brady and provide the space that allows Brady to keep his eyes downfield.......I think he's going to get sacked......a lot

And, we still have one of the worst WR corps in the business, with a weaker quarterback.

We hope to win because of our blocking, our improved running game, and of course our defense & special teams units.

That covers it for me. Thanks for saving me the time.
He dosn't need to play fantastic football, just a few degrees better than Famous Jameis football, such as 2019 Brady football...They really need a clock-killer at RB, however...
Thanks, I guess I shouldn't waste my time following and watching the Patriots that I have enjoyed for 60 years during the bad and the good times. More bad than good, but that's my team.
MUCH more good than bad, for me.

Patriots prior to 2001:

20 winning seasons

18 losing seasons

3 .500 seasons

And most of the losing seasons also had either promise, excitement, individual performances and records, some exceptionally bad luck to the point of humor, some entertaining and funny episodes and anecdotes, or some combination of any or all of the above which in my biased opinion surpass any other franchise in history.

Unless the players are like Rodney Harrison who always took it personally.....

Rodney is special. A special player, and a special person.

I still can't believe the Chargers let him go, and we got him.

With all its problems last year, the OL was 9th in rushing and 5th is pass protection according to Football Outsiders.

2019 NFL OFFENSIVE LINE RATINGS | Football Outsiders

Was well above average last year, and should be better this year.
And Brady led the league in throwaways. He was uncharacteristically running around way too much in the pocket. They were not as good as “ranked”.

With an inexperienced QB, that poor pass protection turns into sacks, INT’s.

Yeah, it's weird. All of this negativity out of nowhere and for no reason whatsoever.

Sure, if we lost, idk, let's say an all time great QB or something, then I'd understand it. But these stupid fake news sports media Pats haters are probably just being wishful thinkers.

Grant it, TB led the team to a SB win only 15 months ago, but what we lost from 2019 was an immobile 42 year old QB with a possible bum elbow. It's not like they dumped a top WR in his prime just for PR.

Like I said, the Pats could surprise people. Apparently you're one of them.

not that it means anything , but there were somewhat similar takes in early 2000s when pats won because brady wasnt brady then . It stopped once brady became who he is and now its back again. Pats are never credited with a good roster because there are rarely many blue chip players in the eyes of the media.

Brady in the past had the ability to elevate the talent around him, Brady last year no longer has that ability. He looked the part of an old aging QB.
Perhaps he will have more success in TB this year as he will just need to be a game manager and no carry the team. That is the context, Brady is old and well past his prime. That is why BB wanted to move to a run first Offensive LAST YEAR. Injuries to Devlin and the large number of OL injuries made that plan not work. In what can best be described as a desperation move he tried to switch to pass first, AB, Josh Gordon Blowing up and Sanu injury killed that idea.

Sadly he left throwing pick sixes in his last 2 games with the Patriots.
