Setting Stidham up for Success

Hoping Stidham is the answer. I remember, in 1999 I thought Griese would just keep the good times rolling, since Elway has given way to Terrell Davis at the end of his career.

Yes, Davis (and Sharpe) getting hurt was a killer & their schedule was tough, but losing the vet QB put them in a tailspin despite having the talent to win back to back 97-98. That group never got back.

Hoping NE’s trajectory is different, but open to the possibility 2020 could be a dumpster fire. Regardless, I think the choice to move on was the correct one to make - Brady/no Brady, NE wasn’t winning the SB in 2020.
That’s an interesting analogy.

With Davis the injury wasn’t a one-off he was never the same after that. Would be like Brady never fully recovering from the ACL tear.
Denver analogies don't work for me, particularly because unlike them, the Patriots do not cheat.

Edit.

I still think that Josh Allen sucks too...His 2nd-half "performance" in the PO loss at Houston was a disgrace.
I agree.

His third year with his legit #1 receiver better show him to be special.

But it’s tough when one has a cannon for an arm and an acorn for a brain.

Nice person, though.

What also impressed me about the Auburn highlights is how good a receiver Darius Slayton was for them...

No worries...we have Harry. I know he can't get himself open but Wozzy the Wise has let it be known that getting open (otherwise known as separation) is unimportant. We're good.

APF explains why he remained publicly quiet on Jarrett Studham until now

...because I was in the frigging hospital, of course. My chronic back problem decided to evolve into spasms, so an ambulance took me to the ER a week ago Friday.

My screams of agony when they transferred me to the bed after interring me into the non-COVID ward that night may have given them a hint I needed some help.

Finally, by Monday they put together a combo of Morphine, Valium, Oxycodone and Flexeril.

Got up and walked out that evening.

Anyway, we went down to RI yesterday and celebrated my eldest's graduation on the quiet streets of Providence. Happily, a LOT of passers by honked and clapped in congratulations, we got some good shots in and then got take out at Malcolm Butler's (Popeye's)

As for our new QB, I think we all hope next February our wives/girlfriends/husbands/boyfriends will be shooting their most perplexed looks at our smiling faces as we keep repeating,

"I'm so happy Bill went to Jarrett!!"

The real question should be "Can Stidham succeed as the QB of a 2020 Pats teams that is structured to be good enough to succeed ?"

Bottom line - If Stidham was starting another club, BB would shut down that teams run game and force Stidham to beat him.

Now, that's an interesting proposition. Consider all the teams in the league. How many do you think that Stidham could lead to the playoffs in 2020. Now, be fair, Stidham would have to replace the team's top QB.

I think that there would be some top teams sitting home if Stidham got all their reps at QB.

I feel like the world is sleeping on this kid.

Then Stidham will fail.

I'm not concerned that BB won't have a decent team that's coached and prepared to play 60 minutes. Stidham needs to hold his end up in the passing game.

I am concerned that Stidham won't make the plays when defenses dare him to beat them.

We don't know that yet and probably won't know for a while but hopefully we'll see some good signs and growth throughout the season.

Patriots QB Jarrett Stidham 'is like a coach,’ Auburn coach Gus Malzahn says (report)

“He came in here, and he’s like a gym rat," Malzahn told NESN. "He’s in the film room, he’s studying, he’s asking questions, protections, what-ifs. He’s that guy."

“I thought those two guys, for whatever reason — and sometimes this happens with quarterbacks and certain wideouts — they just get to a good feel with each other,” Lindsey told the website. “I think also they had a close relationship, still do. So, the ability to communicate with each other, ‘Next time this happens, I’m going to do this, whatever adjustment.’ I think those two guys kind of bought into that.”

Ex-Auburn offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey, who now serves as Troy University head coach, also told NESN.com about the strong on-field relationship Stidham has with wide receiver Will Hastings, who the Patriots signed as an undrafted free agent out of Auburn last month.

Hastings caught 26 passes for 525 yards and four touchdowns while playing with Stidham in 2017.

He's like a coach? These guys should just stop talking. Let the kid start a game first ffs.

Stidham is not a lock to start. Not yet.
