I have a great idea.....how about a political forum?

I have a great idea.....how about a political forum?
I already made that request of Mr. Logue last month. There are a small number of members here that continually try to politicize everyday normal Patriots fan threads. It's disrupting the normal flow of football discourse on this main thread. Bloviating on sports is one thing but taking sides within a fanbase because of extraneous political viewpoints is contrary to what it means to be a Patriots fan IMO. The constant sniping and backbiting is never going to stop at this point so a political romper room thread in the pub seems to be the ideal solution. If this is suitable to you poli/football people, make your wishes known to Ian. I'm sure he will try to accommodate your desires. Remember, there will have to be a specific moderator to oversee the thread so PM each other and come to an agreement on somebody.

It's not going anyway any time soon with current events, elections etc ...

I doubt I'd go into the pofo but I think a no holds barred style without the exception of threatening violence, slurs and an agreement that it stays in the pofo ... ANY spillover into the football side of things should be a 3-6 month ban? 2nd time, life-time?

RLKAG getting its own emoji is the most heartwarming news of the offseason.

Put her on ignore like I did. You won’t miss anything worth reading and it’s much better that way.

Edit: She gone.

You sound triggered.

The mission now, fellow Pats fans, is to export this to other sites so that it becomes ubiquitous before anyone knows what happened.

I had actually taken your suggestion after you reached out to me and started creating those threads, allowing that discussion in the Pub. The problem is that they turned into nasty threads where people continually went too far, creating new levels of dislike between people who otherwise wouldn't have an issue.

I've tried multiple times thus far and it's blown up in my face each time. So unfortunately, I don't know what the solution is. I understand the need to discuss it, but many people can't seem to help themselves from using those threads as an opportunity to sling comments that are completely unnecessary. Any type of punishment toward a person also creates an issue and honestly, I don't see the point in getting in confrontations with people who here in the football forum there isn't an issue. I'm not going to ruin my relationship with people over politics. I don't care about politics. I care about talking about this football team. And I'm not going to just have a thread with a free for all. If you were involved in those threads and saw many of the things that were said, believe me, you'd understand.

I do have one possibility I'm exploring but as of now, any of those threads remain on hold. I wish we could make it work but it remains a challenge, so I just wanted to clear this up. But right now, in this climate, I don't think people can help themselves from bringing it up in football threads because this whole thing is sort of intertwined. Until we get back to sports getting started, it still comes back to this and there is a political connection behind it...it's a mess :maybenot:

My OT forum suggestion...

1) An OP Semi-moderated FFA forum. Basically The Pub with a twist. OT posts, and flame wars can be dealt with by the Thread-Starter to keep it on-topic. The official mods have enough work on the main forum, and shouldn't be wasting their time in other places. If a thread-starter is found to be abusing thread power, an official mod locks the post.

2) Non-Sportsball Gaming/Hobbyist fourm. This would be a place for us geeks to come to when football news is slow.

Topics include:
PC/Console video games: A place for us to discuss vidya and maybe exchange PC-Steam/Xbox Live/PSOnline gamer tags, and play some online.

Tabletop/CCG: Stand alone board games, Warhammer 40k, Magic The Gathering, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, etc.

Other: Home Improvement, Workworking projects, Automotive, etc.

I don't know if this is worth it Ian. Like you I found these discussions just become a morass. When I have company I only have 2 rules no politics and no religion. Seems to work for us and I generally have some interesting discussions on football and many other things. Thanks for the hard work.

We've all witnessed 2 posters going at it for page upon page to no end. Sometimes they hijack a thread with a constant back and forth to get the last word in. Not sure if possible, but would be nice if these posters could be 86ed to a separate thread to insulate them from the rest. If it were me doing it, I would be ok with it.
Maybe a "Boring" icon.

Can we ban complaining for 1 season ...
Might be too much to ask ..........:headscratch::headscratch::headscratch:

Great post again. If you don't mind my asking, do you have a background in writing? I seem to remember a Joe Kerr from somewhere. You're very good at it.

I think it was a nice gesture on Ian's part to give folks a place to discuss the virus, but it became a sh!tshow instead and you could definitely see carrtover to the football forum.

I find the threads that are on subjects that are close to political but we are asked to keep politics out of it, are the most frustrating of all. When I'd see a poster go political in one of the virus threads and respond in the same way, I would be told it was too political and it would be removed. The line kept getting hazy.

When I first came here (was that really 8 years ago?) I used to visit the pofo. I actually enjoy talking politics. But, as you mentioned, most of those same posters who were there don't spend much time if any talking football. There are a few, @JackBauer and @patsfan13 just to name a couple, but not the mod who banned me from the pofo for calling the POTUS at the time by his full name. I haven't seen him/her since.

If Ian decides to give the pofo another try or not I'd fully support his decision. If he did I'd use it.

Sorry about the long-winded post,

Good idea but cut back on the penalties. Maybe it would keep the political stuff where it belongs.

Sorry not following, what do you mean regarding "penalties"?

But yea that's the idea. Ideally keep sides separate, football-only, OT/Pofo-only. Leave me and the draft forum alone.

I think if there were strict enforcement in terms of the 1 or 2 rules in the pofo and no spillover elsewhere it might , just might help keep things more cordial in the pofo knowing what the deal is?

That's up to Ian though. Again I'd probably lurk once and a while but it's not something that interest me enough to get involved.

I think a lifetime ban is too severe. I wouldn't even want that for the dope who told me during a virus thread to go suck Trump's d!ck.

I noticed that once in a while I would see a political post thrown into a football thread and I'd give them a link to a site where they could argue politics all they want. It was a site that was suggested by one of the fans here on the pofo after it was closed down.

I like to talk politics, but there's a lot of work that goes into keeping it smooth. I don't envy Ian or the mods with that task.

I use my cell phone most of the time when accessing the site and as you know I am highly proficient in clicking of the emoji. Sometimes I click the wrong one because they are so close together and don't always know I do that until someone points it out. How about putting all the nice positive emojis on the left and the grumpy negative ones to the right. So if someone accidentally clicks the wrong emoji then chances are the one next to it may do anyway. Thank you.

Just to clarify, RLKAG is a positive emoji, right?
